  1. This sort of revelation and coach dropping the word "message board" is going to cause some digging. Guys, before people start going back through a bunch of posts, don't make it an exercise on pointing out what everyone has said over the last past days/month. Instead, if you are looking back I would challenge you to read what you personally might have said and if there was something you might have regretted, use that as guidance talking about players going forward.

I sort of thought Patricia Heaton's rack being quoted on here 4 times would be the most embarrassing thing on this board this week. I was wrong. Today I come on here, and after using google and common sense for 1 minute, find that I have someone on here projecting their crap onto a player quoting the new Drake album much like 500,000 other people have done on twitter today. I'm not saying that one can't post player social media musings on here. What I'm saying is that if you're going to post an interpretation on here, especially if it's one that is negative/a guy struggling you should do so with caution and prudence. Worst case scenario is you've managed to cause something negative that didn't previously exist and that's exactly the opposite of the point of this site. I'd suggest you stop following players on social media. These guys shouldn't be taking crap from our own fans.

    The Petteway Factor

By Lee Barfknecht / World-Herald BureauThe Omaha World-Herald LINCOLN — Nebraska All-Big Ten wing Terran Petteway on Friday revealed that his mother, Joetta, is fighting cancer again, and apologized to his teammates and Husker nation for letting it affect his play. NU coach Tim Miles said Petteway was so distraught with his recent play that he offered to resign his two-year captaincy, which Miles immediately rejected. Many teammates didn't know what Petteway was going through. Going public, which was Petteway's idea, led to relief throughout the team, Miles said. "I really think this is going to help him,'' the coach said. "He broke down in front of the team. Guys were all in total support.'' Petteway is the Big Ten's third leading scorer at 18.9 points a game. On Tuesday against No. 5 Wisconsin, he had 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Nuf said...a lot going on in these kids' lives. Hard to play a game...hard to do ANYTHING...when someone you love is going through this torture. God bless the Petteway family.

  5. I really hope people stop calling him a cancer.. Worst choice of words to describe this young man. Prayers to his mom and family! Cancer sucks!

  6. On one hand, I'm sort of glad to know there's an explanation for his frustrating behavior this year. On the other hand, I hate what the source of that frustration is. Anyone who has been close to cancer (and these days, it seems as though that includes almost everyone) knows how it can beat you up psychologically. His mother's situation was also the first thing I thought of when I heard the comment from Coach Harriman. I was hoping that wasn't it, hoping for something like girl trouble instead. From the what Miles said, it sounds like some of his teammates were also not aware of what might be going on with him, not just us wackos on evil message boards. I think his sharing this with the team is bound to be a good thing. He doesn't have to carry the burden by himself. Hopefully, this will relieve some of the pressure and he can enjoy playing basketball again. There have been many times this season when it appears as though he isn't having fun. This revelation might explain why. I hope he can play with a little less pressure now, and that basketball gives him a bit of a respite from his troubles. And wishing nothing but the best for his mother.

  14. i understand there is basketball left, but, with warmer weather not too far away, i am thinking some or most of you will be spending more time doing more important things. so, just thought i would ask what some of your opinions will be for the husker program looking towards 2015-16. i think there are some fairly big questions where the offense is going to come from. romeo looks like a good one. hope her offense just keeps improving. RT will get a lot of attention---as usual. Smith looks good on the court, but, needs work offensively. Cincore ? Kalenta? think they will give huskers good minutes. not sure what Blackburn and Simon will bring. i know there are other names i didn't mention, like Wood, Ramecieri(sp), and Washington. to keep it fairly short, the way i see things right now, i think a lot will hinge on the game that Shepard will bring the huskers. having that strong post presence (not too mention the hype) could really unleash the others (if you know what i mean). btw, not to take anything away from Cady and Sample---what a pleasure it has been watching the whole team this year. just wish their hard work would have paid off in a couple more "w's". seniors deserved a little better. anyway, just thought it would be interesting how others are looking at next year.

    Warren

Very disappointed to see that he is leaving. A bona fide recruiting stud, on a pale and old staff. Both staffs kept rubbing his nose in it by making him the lowest paid assistant. Very disappointing development. We need to prioritize replacing this guy with a bona fide recruiter who has a proven and demonstrated ability to close.

  16. Makes sense Bugs. Havers will probably help us score...plus will definately help the defense inside. She could have some help from Kalenta & Washington, and possibly freshman Blackburn (sp) Hopefully Havers can add another 20 lbs of muscle...and a nasty side to go with it. How Shepard recovers, and can get up to game speed, will be huge. She will add a ton to the offense, (and defense) and can make us a different team. I just don't see her getting pushed around or intimidated. Scorers (sp) mentality. Losing the Page girls hasn't helped us....one of them could have been ready to play next year...but that's water under the bridge. We need to fill those shoes....and recruit aggressively to do so. I have to say we don't seem to get after recruiting as hard as some. Iowa already has commitments from 4 for 2016...all 4*s....and yes Row...I have come to hate the hawks. Lots more thoughts...but it can be thrashed later.

My first thought when I heard Harriman was that Petteway's mom's cancer might be back. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to speculate and didn't wan it to be true. Yep, that was my first thought too. It's why I encouraged others to listen to that segment before commenting further. Now that more is known, I hope there aren't too many people that sprain their ankle getting off their high horse.

  22. In my mind Havers will start next year, and with that the scoring output should also increase. I think when she has been in some of the games as of late she has really bothered the opponents bigs. Also what will Yori do with the two schollies that are now available?

Time to cut him a lot of slack, This is a hard thing to go through. No excuses...but very good reason to explain what is going on in his life and why he is the way he is sometimes. Our thoughts and prayers should go out to TP and his family.

I was playing Tarin on PS4 last night. He thought he had his mic muted but it was on. I could hear what he said; "It took everythin in my power to not say, 'F*** you, fans, F*** all of you.' F*** 'em." "Our crowd. What a bunch of f***ing fair-weather f***ing---they can all kiss my ass out the f***ing door. 'Cause the day is f***ing coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm f***ing gone. I'm so f***ing pissed off."

    WBB: Game #24 vs Iowa

Sure you want to zone Iowa with all of those shooters? They have pretty good ball movement and I would worry about the open shots they would get in that. We dominated the boards also last night, which I'm not sure we do with a zone. But I'm no X and O guy.

I would view criticism and "bashing" as two entirely different levels. T.P. has been a wonderful player for Nebraska and is effort is always to be admired. I hope he comes back for another year (he clearly is not ready to play in the NBA) but would like to have him develop a better handle on dealing with his frustrations.

  31. Everyone in the red zone should be wearing some sort of eye protection though. http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Tekk-Protection-Clear-Chemical-Splash-and-Impact-Resistant-Goggles-91252-8002S/203030336?N=5yc1vZc1xt Seriously. $3 and a trip to Home Depot isn't that difficult.

    Molinari

I think you are right. And I think he needs to quit delagating so much stuff to others. I thought I heard someone else was in charge of the substitutions one game? Hopefully I misunderstood it. Miles typically has an assistant in charge of implementing substitutions. They talk about who they're going to sub in before games and when. Miles also delegates the scouts of the opposing teams to assistants as well. It's part of his style of delegating duties which is part of how he's become so successful despite the coaching pedigree. He's able to make big picture decisions without having to constantly look up and see how many fouls Shavon has. He doesn't have to try and figure out if Leslee is hanging on to his shorts at the FT line because he's tired. I know I've noticed in the first couple of years we rarely have guys fouling out and it's no co-incidence. On the program level you'll hear guys call into talk radio saying Miles needs to focus on coaching more instead of showing up at events or tweeting or whatever. With Miles delegating some duties to his assistants and staff he doesn't have to constantly focus on details at the expense of the big picture. In addition to coaching the team he can also work on recruiting and building the program. If one wanted to make the argument that Doc Sadler was a better overall in game coach than Miles (I'm not either way), does that overcome what Miles has done with the rest of his time to build a better program? Does Miles overcome that by properly delegating to assistants instead of having a bunch of guys standing around with clipboards?

But man it sounds just like him. According to him TERRAN is the reason we aren't winning and he can't wait until he leaves.

    The refs sucked

Danger, at what level did you officiate? I have some experience both as a player and a very small amount of experience coaching youth basketball. It's not when officials don't conform their foul calls to the style I prefer to play that bothers me. It's when they're blatantly inconsistent that bothers me. Let me give you an example. One time, a team of 6th graders I was coaching was just getting waxed. Pasted. I think we were up against Kidney's 4th grade girls and they were obviously more experienced and better coached than my boys were. But, anyway ... the better team got the benefit of any doubt on calls. It's like the officials figured that the team in the maroon jerseys, since they're winning big, must know more about basketball than the team in the white jerseys. Therefore, a mauling of the ball handler coming this way is a clean strip; whereas a touch foul going that way is a whistle. I think psychologists might call it something like "expectation bias" or something like that. Whoever you think the better team is must also be better at not fouling. Be cognizant of that bias when you officiate. Just because the other team has clearly more experienced players, a foul is still a foul. And if you're not going to blow a whistle when they rip the ball out of my kids' hands then you shouldn't blow the whistle when the same exact thing happens on the other side. Last night, I thought the officials were suffering some sort of expectation bias. What was a foul for me wasn't necessarily a foul for thee. What was too much contact when we did it was copacetic when they did it. It's not the style, necessarily. As you say, I can adjust to the style. What I can't adjust to is the inconsistency.

  39. One Husker win is much more satisfying than any ironic Creighton losing streak.

  40. The replay clearly showed he intentionally made contact with the referee. Yes, the replay also showed it was a bad call, but his response to it was unacceptable. I'm amazed he was not ejected. The camera also caught at least two other examples of TP throwing a temper tantrum on the court which could have resulted in a technical foul for swatting the ball out of a UW player's hand and a flagrant foul for shoving a UW player near the sideline. Both occurred during dead ball situations. And I'm not even counting his enthusiastic response to his head coach during a timeout. If TP played for an opposing team, there would be a thread 20 pages long on this board describing what a punk he is. There are too many TV cameras for him to get away with what he does. Almost like the "Bo-cam" during football games. In fact, his "5 against 8" remark reminds me a lot of the "us against the world" attitude a certain football team recently used as motivation. It didn't serve them well, especially in big games. I no longer care how much he wants to win, how much he wants his teammates to succeed, how hard he worked all summer, and how "competitive" he is. When faced with adversity, he plays with the emotional composure of Barney Fife, and that hurts his team! Yes, he wears his emotions on his sleeve, and it's not a good look for him. Talented? Yes. Emotionally mature? I'm not seeing it.
