Report reply busticket 1,095 Posted Saturday at 03:36 PM That was a masterclass by the coaches on how to play Kalk on both ends of the floor. I assumed going in that Kalk would have 8 blocks and Creighton would make a ton of open threes off of double teams like most teams seem to do to us. The defense was insane. He never even got the ball to kick out to the shooters to pass around the perimeter. And even though Creighton shot a ton of threes the shooters rarely had time to get comfortable. Offensively the way we attacked was brilliant. We aren’t a great shooting team so we either attacked where Kalk wasn’t or our drivers went right into his chest like you are supposed to do against a shot blocker. I am just amazed we did it a full 40. I thought against Saint Mary’s our team started to figure out how the pieces fit together. But I never expected a dominant performance like this! huskerkid21, Huskerpapa, roscoe and 9 others 6 6 Quote Share this comment

We need to have their RPI remain decent for our own rating at the end of the year. They have an opportunity to get a huge win with KU coming to Omaha soon. Hopefully Ashworth can get healthy. I usually hope Creighton loses all their games but if they end up being mediocre this year that might piss me off more than when they win 25 games. Report reply basketballjones 3,462 Posted Saturday at 03:51 PM Last night didn’t even feel like an upset. For anyone wondering why I have been so critical of this team, it’s because they have yet to show that juice and toughness. I liked this team a lot, the way it was built, but had yet to see them play as a team. That all got answered last night. No one even really played that “well” outside of Juwan and maybe Connor Essegian. We were just tougher, smarter, meaner, and played harder. arliepro, jason2486, NUtball and 5 others 2 6 Quote Share this comment

Report reply AGHANSEN 159 Posted Saturday at 04:06 PM The biggest keys going into the game were, limit the Jays in transition, stop Ashworth and Kalk, limit turnovers, and make some shots. Although we didn’t hit many threes our mid range was phenomenal. Great gamelan by the coaches and great execution from the players. When we take care of the ball our offense is pretty solid. Report reply Norm Peterson 14,203 Posted Saturday at 08:21 PM You might want to short Creighton stock right now. Torvik's predictive metrics have them winning 19 games and earning about a 7-seed in the NCAA tourney. I don't have inside information on Ashworth's injury, but I've lived it in person. It involved surgery and six weeks in a boot. And some rehab after that. They say he's gonna be out a while. If he's back, I wouldn't expect to see him until February. So, before Ashworth went down, Creighton had exactly six players averaging 3.5 ppg or more. Three of those six guys are 6'10 or taller. Then the guards: the Neal kid, Ashworth, and Pop Isaacs. Take Ashworth and his 16 pts/6.4 assists/4.2 bds out of Creighton's lineup, and it leaves a huge hole. He's far and away Creighton's best perimeter shooter. Take him out of the lineup, and you drop Creighton's TEAM 3-pt% by almost 4 percentage points from 30.7% down to 27.0%. Take Ashworth out of their lineup, and you leave Creighton with only two guards who've managed to score at least 3.0 points per game. And the next guard down the list is a true freshman who, so far, was only getting six minutes of playing time per game and hadn't attempted a 3-point shot. Before Ashworth went down, Creighton already lacked guard depth. This leaves them with essentially zero bench. That freshman is going to have to grow up in a hurry.
