After reading the story in the OWH.   It got me  to thinking (I know Norm  I shouldn't do that) but with all the accolades we are giving our freshman haven't we only had Glynn be freshman of the week that one time.  I realize some of the other freshman in the conference have better upperclassman around them but if we are going to make some noise in the BIG these guys are going to have to improve dramatically.

I wouldn't say dramatically. We are gonna have a solid group.

-Andrew White

-Anton Gill (have heard only good/great things about him)

-Glynn Watson

-Jack McVeigh

-Michael Jacobson

-Tai Webster

-Edward Morrow

-Jake Hammond

Add in Roby and Horne who are two highly regarded recruits and I think we are gonna be a top half team. I'm an optimistic person by nature but I do not see what's not to like.

I didn't really get what his point was since next year, according to recruiting ratings, we will have our most talented team in atleast 1.5 decades. White, Gill, Watson, Morrow, Roby, and Horne all are/were top 150 players coming out of high school by atleast one recruiting service. Yeah we are still missing a true center but Hammond (he can get better) and Jacobson (he could still grow) are still young plus who knows who we will fill the last scholarship with.

I guess his point is that isn't good enough. This isn't his first "we don't have enough talent" column of this year.

Lee's M-O is getting old. He wrote he's covered Nebrasketball for 4 decades, but I read him like he expects an overnight turnaround.

Yes, we all have to see progress. I think we are. Much of our talent are freshmen. We have an incoming freshman many people are excited about. And one the year after that. We need to grab Ed Chang. As outlined above, a pretty solid lineup awaits us.

One thing I wish was a little different was offering guys who have offers from the top level of college sports - Kansas, Missouri, possibly Texas, Florida, Duke, UNC, etc. We should not be competing with Colorado State, SMU, Drake, etc. in the majority of cases. There is very good talent in Lincoln but need to get a difference maker- a lottery pick, a first-team all conference, etc. Sprinkle in a Melo or Hammonds with this lineup and you'd have to wonder...

Not sure you can make a prediction until we see what happens in the offseason.

we still have an open scholarship, and there is always a chance a player or 2 transfers.

we still need 1 more post player for me to really feel good about next year.

Barfnecht says in the article that the freshmen + White + Gill are a legitimate foundation. I think his point was Nebraska has brought in better talent but so has everybody else in the B1G. 14 players in ESPN 100 signed to 9 different teams and Nebraska doesn't have one even though Roby had too be close. Also the lack of a big man is a concern. I'm guessing Miles will probably go grad transfer with or without Jordy.

Ummmm...Miles has offered plenty of guys who also received offers from the big dogs. From the start he was offering guys who we had no business getting. Problem is, those players initially wouldn't take a serious look at Nebraska. Miles has done very well identifying talent early in the process. Very rarely have I seen our targets' narrowed down list include IUPUI, Drake, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff ala Doc. Early on a targets offer list may include such teams but that is because Miles has offered early before a kids recruitment blows up and big dogs come in. Jordy Tahimanga, our latest big target is choosing between Arizona, Pittsburgh, and Nebraska. That's a far cry from Lipscomb, IUPUI, and Doane.

I realize we've offered some studs. It's year four and we haven't signed a big fish...I never said the roster needs an overhaul but only mentioned that NU has to get one of these every once in a while...did you read my last two sentences?

We might not have caught a world record fish, but we have caught plenty of fish that many other fisherman would love to have caught.

Barfknecht is big on NBA talent, always refers to that as a test of whether a team's top level. He doesn't see an NBA draft pick on our roster, so ...

I think his point is that we have a good roster by our standards, but the BIG dogs' are better. A half-empty analysis.

Well I wouldn't expect Miles to have a roster better or equal to the "big dogs" of the conference. They are continuously competing for conference championships and deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. We are not on that level yet. We are competing for top half finishes and just being in consideration for the NCAAs. I think our talent level will be exceptional for what our short term goals will be.

Our roster is far from being elite, but that is not currently the next step for this team.

I like the direction of the program, we are recruiting as well as we can, within the confines of the rules of the NCAA, and what are program has done so far. It started by just getting Jahlil Oakafor on campus, yes he said there was never a chance but he still at least came and visited, now we are getting kids that are choosing NU over established schools, the next battle and the game changer is when we get the one kid that's top 20 to top 5 that's says no to the blue bloods, and says i want to make my own legacy, i want to put NU on the map that's the game changer and were getting close.

Its still a celebration when we get top 150 talent, but its not a stop the presses, take the day off moment it was a few years ago. When you a build a program like Miles is doing, from as talent-less as we were to the point that where we are going it takes years, if can a program overnight, its usually not being down the right way and your sacrificing something, whether its academics, long term success, class fluidity, or morality your sacrificing something.

We currently have the same number of NCAA appearance as Johnny Jones at LSU and Larry Brown at SMU and very likely will after this season.

It's unfortunate the Dave Hoppen/Bill Jackmans' of the world don't come along too often. Nebraska will always be thin when it comes to D1 talent,  but we could use some luck from the Basketball Gods and have a local boy blow up into a superstar.

Possible. But it's also possible that because we play so many freshen for so many minutes, it gets harder to single out one player than other teams running one frosh out for extended time on a veteran team.

Just trust what you see, not what the awards people think.

We're going to have a full lineup of 150 guys on the floor next year. Before Hammond, we hadn't had even one. I like where we are headed, but I also really want Chang.
