Here's a bizarre stat: Ohio State only had four players who scored for the entire game... only 6 players attempted a shot.

This was a tough loss. But I feel confident that once Shields is back we can make a run. I like our chances against the Buckeyes when we are healthy. Ohio State is a team i wouldn't mind drawing in the big ten tourney.

I haven't watched them this year but the OSU team in Lincoln today was poor at best.

Thoughts:

- What a strange game all around. Poor shooting by both teams, but the game wasn't awful to watch surprisingly.

- White had a tough shooting day, but he has taken tough shots all year long ... just didn't make them as much today. However he is such a fighter and made a difference in the end by hanging through the slump.

- Ohio St's D is tough ... very long and disruptive around the hoop. However, we felt off on offense all day. Almost like we were just a touch intimidated and pressing a bit much. Trying TOO hard ... or something.
- We are young, but so is Ohio St. They will be tough the next few years ...
- Tim Miles needs to watch his technicals a bit ... he seems to be getting more and more of late.
- I am SO tired of how much our fans complain about officiating. Yes, some calls are bad but we aren't doing ourselves any favors. The calls weren't that bad either. We LOVE to complain ... it seems to be how we deal with the frustration of not being that good of a team right now.
- Watson showed why Miles subs him out down the stretch on defense with his late struggles to get a stop on D after Tai fouled out.

- All of the above being said ... love the fight I see from this team. Good sign for into the future.

You know, sometimes games like this happen.  Both teams are better offensively than this.  I don't know what the cause is, wheither it is both teams are competing so hard on defense, or if it is a mentally contageous thing.

But I'm seeing people critical of of our offense today, and all I can say is yeah, the shooting precentage sucked, but look how many 2nd chance opportunities we had because of out hustling OSU to the offensive rebound, or getting steals?  I haven't seen the stats, but I'll wager we had a lot more possessions than OSU.  This is why, as poor as we shot the ball, we almost won, against a team that certainly has the edge on us atheletically.  It's one of the things I like about this team.  Despite poor shooting or injuries, we're trying to find other ways to keep us in games and maybe even get us some wins.

I thought Tai Webster today was just brilliant, and when he fouled out I said if this goes into overtime, I don't think we'll win.  Of course I didn't account for the fact that in the last 10 seconds of the game it all of the sudden became legal to grab the player with the ball by the arm and literally pull him back in order to prevent him from shooting.

Ok I've slept on it and I'm still pissed. That was such a hard game. Everything was such a struggle and such a fight. Lots of great hustle plays. But being down a couple guys really hurts in a game like that. A couple extra bodies would've done us good I think.

Yes there were a million things we could've done differently to win that game. But my goodness there were some head scratcher calls or no calls. That's the end of my ref complaining.

Watson will grow up from a game like like. He had 3 to 4 questionable decisions down the stretch that could've flipped the game. He's only a freshman so a game like last nights will do him good in the long run.

Frustrating loss, frustrating season. I think most realists knew it would be a longish year heading in but being so close despite being so young has made it a frustrating one. We are so close to winning bunches or more games. Really have to like our chances for next year but we always say that. Maybe next year will actually be the 'next year' we've always called for though. Seems like it should be.

Sun came up again this morning. Now to put it behind us and hope the team will also be able to do the same thing. The extra day between games will help- to see if Shavon is really ready to go if nothing else- as we move toward one of the remaining winnable games. It would be easy for a young team to lose confidence after the performance yesterday and a challenge for the coaching staff to make sure it doesn't happen. We simply have to  " Bite, chew, swallow, repeat" as the biker said last week in the Walking Dead. And to make sure we avoid getting blasted apart by a rocket launcher to end this season.

I think you as encapsulated how o feel in your last paragraph. As a realist I expect this year to be a fight for .500. But the new guys quickly had me dreaming of a better year. Like Sipple said (and kenpom shows) we are better than our records indicate. So yeah I agree that that has contributed to a frustrating season.

I am tired of being a husker fan saying "if only.". I would like to win our share of close games.

Just think how it feels to be a cubbies fan. At least we have a better track record than they do for the post season.

As bad as we've been, somehow there are teams worse than us. Still at #9. But a disappointing season to say the least. Fun, but sad nights.

Was going to say we were picked to finish dead last or just next to it. We are 9th. could be better, but could be soooo much worse. We could be having a dumpster fire record and really worried about guys leaving the program.

When you combine tough defense, great effort with poor shooting, it is a formula for an ugly and/or frustrating game.  I was frustrated the majority of the game...I was upset and frustrated.  I just could not believe our inability to knock down open looks.  That my friends was not an offensive scheme deficiency or great defense, it was just a team wide shooting funk.  That is tough to see.  I won't take anything away from OSU, but dang, that was ugly.

That all said...how in the heck did we have a chance to win that game???

The order of things stays the status quo...Ohio State > Nebrasketball.

Another home loss, I'm not even sure how many that is this year, not sure it even matters any more.  We play so bad at home.

Played just good enough to lose, found ways to lose, however you want to put it.

Not sure what Miles drew up in his time outs but not very good results.  The T's are not doing us any favors.

I wasn't talking big picture but this one night. OSU seemed disinterested and unmotivated. Offensively they shot poorly, were disjointed most of the night and had way too many turnovers, many unforced.

Defensively you don't get to be one of the nations best defensive teams and give up that many offensive rebounds. They gave up many straight drives to the hoop and lack of effort was part of the reason they had players foul out. The floor slapping incident sums up their defensive effort perfectly.

They might be a pretty good team and they might be one of the nations best defensive teams this season, but yesterday they were poor at best.

If you think they played poor defense and unmotivated defense, we will just have to agree to disagree.  I saw them give a lot of effort on defense.  A lot of our rebounds were due to outworking them for sure though.  We played with as much effort as we are probably capable of and it gave us a shot to win the game even with the poor shooting.  But lets face it, we were having to take a lot of very difficult shots and then it seemed to get in our head when we would get an open one.

I don't want to make them out to be some kind of juggernaut.  They aren't.  But they aren't a very poor team either.  It sucks that we played them at the worst possible time.  1.  End of the season when they have become a good team.  2.  Without Shields.  If we play them earlier in the year, we beat them without Shields.  If we play them now with Shields we win too.  Extremely frustrating.

I think OSU played well defensively. The horrible 3 point shooting in the first half cost us the game. They were mostly good looks. While players have grown immensely, I think we struggle more at the guard spot than the post spot right now. People like to complain on how Miles always preaches defense, they have to. On offense, we play 4 on 5 and have the last 2 years.
