I know it's a stretch but we could go 11 - 7 in conference play and finish the year 19 - 12.  We have a pretty favorable schedule this year.  Go win a game or two in the Big 10 tournament and we'd be in conversation for an NCAA tournament bid.

5 road wins is highly unlikely with this young team, regardless of how some of those teams have played so far.  @Rutgers is the closest thing to a lock, but even that one is questionable.

Michigan and Ohio State at home are possible wins, but I would also consider them unlikely simply because IMO both of them hold a significant athletic advantage against NU across the board.

Considering our road record of late, and that we have Purdue and Maryland on the home slate, even 9-9 would be a really strong accomplishment in my eyes.

There are potentially winnable games on the road, but we have to be much better away from home than we've been the past calendar year plus to collect any of them, which is not easy to do when playing as many true freshmen as we are.

Just hoping we can get off to a reasonably good start in the first 6 games, survive the very difficult middle portion of the schedule without losing confidence, and hopefully finish strong.

And maybe hope that AJ Hammons and Isaac Haas both decide to turn pro effective immediately on Feb. 29.  ;)

You know that Northwestern is really good this year, right? It's more likely we get swept than it is we sweep.

I need to see a lot more of NW before I consider them a top 6 type big 10 team. Sure they are 11-1 but they have played absolutely nobody. Not saying they wont get there, but I could see them slip big time come B1G play.

I think it is a possibility.  The Big 10 is struggling this year.  I too am a doubter in Northwestern right now.  They are decent, but they have not played anyone of note.  Stick them against @Nova, Cincy, RI, @Creighton, and Tennessee and I think they go 2-3 or 3-2.

If we do go 11-7 and 19-12 though... we will be in the convo and a win in the B10 tourney would put us in.

My incredibly optimistic prediction is 8-10.  But more realistically, we'll probably get 4 or 5 wins.  My reasoning is as follows:

I think Northwestern is a bit overrated.  They nearly blew a 20-point lead against a terrible Mizzou team and just barely beat VT in OT.  Yes, their lone loss is to UNC, but they've been inconsistent at times.  Still, we are going to struggle against Olah's size.  I'm hoping we surprise them at the Vault, but we probably have no chance on the road at the end of the season when they're playing to improve their chances at making it into the tournament.

I like our chances at sweeping PSU.  Yes, they also have a senior 7-footer, but he's got no touch.  Their starting 3 and 4 are only 6' 6" so we should at least match up against them in terms of physicality, just need to control Payton Banks as he can fill it up.  They've been blessed by good guard play the last few seasons, but they start three sophomores.

I think we can beat either Illinois or Wisconsin on the road, maybe even both if we shoot the ball well.  Both are small teams, which benefits us.  Illinois often starts four guards.  I also think tOSU is pretty beatable, especially at home.

Not unreasonable, but this is the best NW team we've seen since we joined the conference.

Yup. With their 7ft 270 guy, outside shooting, and money PG they're Miami light.  We're going to need to bring our A game on Wednesday in what could be a half filled PBA

This seems to be looking at the schedule through the eyes of a decent team, which we're not. We're not playing well, and any road win is in doubt, including Rutgers. The league is really down so there are wins to be had, but the problem is that we're down even further. I hope we get better quickly, but as it is now, there's no way we get to .500 in the BIG.

Does anyone know why the game is on a Thursday at 3pm?

They're playing most of the conference games on Wednesday in their normal Wednesday-Saturday rotation. I suppose we're lucky this game isn't at noon.
