Notes from UNL

  • Nebraska extended its win streak at home to 18 straight games, including 11 straight Big Ten games dating back to last December
  • Nebraska has won the last four meetings against Indiana dating back to last season. Nebraska’s four straight wins marks the first time NU has won four straight games against the Hoosiers.
  • Brice Wiliams finished with a game-high 30 points, the most points by a Husker since Keisei Tominaga had 30 against Michigan last season. It marked Williams’ fourth career 30-point game and first in Husker career.  Williams also tied a season-high in rebounds (six) and also dished out five assists.
  • Brice Williams has now reached double figures in 13 straight games now marking the longest stretch in his career.
  • NU shot 61.2 percent from the field, the Huskers’ best field goal percentage since shooting 61.5 percent against Boston College on Nov. 30, 2022.
  • Nebraska shot a season-high 57.1 percent from 3-point range, its best performance since shooting 60.9 percent in the win over No. 1 Purdue on Jan. 9, 2024.
  • Nebraska held Indiana to 35 percent shooting, including one of 18 in the final 9:30 of the contest. It was Indiana’s second-lowest shooting percentage of the season (.333 vs. Louisville).
  • The Huskers are now 36-4 under Hoiberg when holding their opponents to 70 points or less.
  • Nebraska put four players in double figures, as Juwan Gary (14), Connor Essegian (13) and Andrew Morgan (10) all finished in double figures. NU now has had nine double-figure efforts from its bench in nine games). Morgan and Essegian helped NU’s bench out-score Indiana, 28-16.

I wonder how far away Janowski was from playing this year. He can really shoot in warmups and another shooter would be so helpful. He probably needed a year in a college weight lifting program

Great bounce back win.

PBA was rocking tonight.

i really liked how we set the tone early.

i thought Brice, Juwan, Connor, and Andrew were phenomenal.

If those four can average double figures, we’re gonna be thought to beat.

Our defense is still shaky. IU seemingly got a shot every possession.
Thanks goodness IU went stone from the field.

Beating a team like IU is always fun, especially when they spent about $5 million on NIL for this roster.

Why would Myles Rice be a -20 +-

This is one of those where the +/- stats don’t reflect how important that player was. They get blown out of the water MSU style without him in the 2nd half.

The only thing I’ll say about IU’s shots is that we did force them into a lot of long two jump shots. Those aren’t bad shots to force someone into, but they nailed a lot of them FT line extended jumpers.

After a night's sleep, here are a few more random thoughts:

*  Andrew Morgan is a vital cog on this team.  He is an athletic big; as is Berke.  Meah has a role and will help us as well.  So we have three bigs that seemingly continue to grow into their roles.  Andrew is prone to fouling early, so I kind of understand him coming off the bench.  Meah had some ugly turnovers last night.  That has to stop.

*  Gavin will be interesting to watch.  At this moment, he seems void of athleticism.   It has a certain cringe factor.  I still believe in him; but he currently has lost his rotational role.  Cale looks sooo much more comfortable on the court and seems set in the ten man rotation.

*  We need Williams and Gary to stay consistently on top of their games to be successful.

*  Connor has stepped up big time.  I'm actually not talking about his shot (although he has taken that to another level as well, by his ability to penetrate and finish).  No, I am talking about his defense and rebounding.  He is, by no means, a great defender and rebounder, but he is in the mix going for boards and he now seems to understand our defense and the effort is there.  That said, he was beaten, pretty badly, on a couple occasions.  (But not as badly as Rice de-jock strapping Uhlis on the top of the key in the 2nd half 😗).

Gavin needs 3 things happen for him to get back in the rotation.

1.  He has to be serviceable on the defensive end.  He looks 100 % lost on that end.  Get to Connor's level would at least give him a chance to see the floor.

2.  Stop dribbling right into a defender.  He becomes careless with basketball and the defender just takes the ball from him.

3.  Make shots.

What’s Andy gonna do when we Take Down Number One on Alumni Weekend? Rather than merely overreacting after one BAD loss, Andy falls back into the familiar cliched territory of Nebraska as B1G Bottom Feeder. You’ll learn the HARD way like the others Andy…
