Whether we are barely in or barely out right now is a moot point.  Tuesday night is a de facto "win and stay-in" for us.  A loss and we will have to not only beat Iowa but go on a little run in the BIG tournament.  Remarkably, win the final two and we are almost certainly in, barring a plethora of bid stealers.  Adding another Q1 road win, which would give us three Q1 road wins, is something the other teams on the bubble can't match.  They can all match our bad losses.

This is kinda like not being able to stop thinking about the ex-girlfriend that broke your heart. Eventually you just need to let it go... looking at bracketologists who updated their stuff late last night or this morning... most still have us in and some still have us not playing in Dayton... some have us the first or second team out. 

 

It's March 2nd and we still get to think about this stuff. If nothing else, these two years have been more similar to 90's Nebrasketball than any other two year run in our history.  In a 9 year span we went to 5 NCAA tourneys and 4 NITs. Had a team win 26 games. Won a conference tournament. Won an NIT. Produced multiple NBA players. To outsiders, it all gets overshadowed because we never won a tourney game, but I'd take another decade like that in a heartbeat.

Our metrics updates as of this morning. The good news is that results metrics are hanging in the low 50’s. To do what we need to do to get in (win 2), those should rise into the 40’s and that’s where we need them to be.

 

USC’s big loss knocked them down to a Q3, so we went from 0 Q3 losses yesterday to 2. Ouch. They play Washington at home and @UCLA, so still a small chance they could finish Q2.

 

Rutgers plays @Purdue and home against Minny. As long as they don’t get blown out at Purdue and beat Minny, they should stay Q2.

Jeez guys, I don't know how you do this.  After I plopped back on my seat yesterday, I was just hoping we can win at Ohio State.  Zero thoughts beyond that one game.  When I read through the above takes, I smile and recall Mora's rant...

You can read above how devastating that loss was yesterday by me. But….Nebraska is in 72/85 brackets and under an 11 seed still…..it can still be done. 
 

I don’t care if we deserve it or not. I want to make it and have a chance to knock off my #1 life bucket list item.

We were in well over half of the brackets updated on 3/2. I counted (I Think) 22/28 brackets updated on 3/2

Pretty simple. Win out and in. So many missed opportunities. We don’t look like a tourney team at all right now. But still a sliver of hope.

USC inching back closer to a Q2 game. They are at 76. With a game vs Washington on tap, we could use them to win that one for our bubble resume. We also still sit at 5 Q1 wins and a win vs OSU would give us 6 Q1 wins again. A win vs OSU would bring us to a 10-10 Q1/Q2 record which is pretty good for a bubble team. 

 

It's not over-- win both and we're likely still in. Lose both and the season is likely over. Win 1 and we likely need to win the B1G tournament (or at least make Saturday) to give ourselves a chance.

 

Our wins are up there with some of the better bubble teams if not better than and our losses are down there with some of the worst losses for bubble teams... we've flopped on all of our chances to seal the deal. But we're still right there.

Bubble Watch: 

 

Wake Forest @ Duke: A win would put Wake in a really good spot and a loss likely means they must win the ACC tournament. Biggest game of the night for us.

 

UCLA @ Northwestern: I don't think our NW win will drop to a Q2, so we definitely need UCLA as they are right on the cut line right now for a Q1/Q2 win.

While I partly agree-- We control our own destiny there with our game vs Iowa. No matter what happens vs OSU. And if we can't win a single fricking game out of Michigan, Minnesota, @OSU, Iowa to seal a deal in the B1G tournament, maybe we don't deserve to be there either.
