  • I really, really like the starting 5. I think it's the best group since Miles has been here. Probably quite a while before that, too. They really smothered Mary to start the game. They could have hung 120 on 'em if they wanted to, I think. Though Miles said UM really slowed the pace, so maybe not. Though, they settled for too many jumpers early.
  • The bench isn't there, though I think they will be increasingly so as the season progresses. Glad they got so many minutes in the second half.
  • Everybody looked more settled.
  • Gill still knocking the rust off. That might take a minute. He'll get there, I think. Miles said he's pressing a bit, and I can totally see that.
  • Jordy looks ok defensively, dare I say he looked good? Offensively, however, he's onna need to get to that shot a lot quicker when he gets the ball. He can't be tentative with the ball around the rim. He did better on the one where he got fouled with 3:34 left. Really got a lot better as the game progressed. Solid free throw shooter, it seems.
  • That said, the post entry could use some work.
  • Glynn was automatic in the lane.
  • Quite a few capable shooters on this team. That's fun.
  • Couple cheap fouls by Roby. Need to be a little more disciplined.
  • Sloppy end to the first half.
  • Nice job of Palmer trying to keep Jordy's spirits up as they walked off the court at the break. That was right after that possession where he was alone under the rim and waited for the defense to show up.
  • Not sharp out of the break.
  • The OWH has a sponsorship graphic. Tonight it was blue. It needs to be red or at least not blue on Dec. 7.
  • That drive and dunk by Roby was smooooooth.
  • Don't like Taylor running the point. Honestly, I'd rather Roby run it.
  • Roby needs to learn to defend without fouling.
  • Too many turnovers. That was disappointing. I'm guessing most of them came with the 2nd team in, though.
  • Really, there's not a ton to be learned tonight. I'm anxious to see his team on Saturday against an opponent that will be fully capable of beating them.

Coulda beaten them by 50 but clearly Tim wasn't going to allow that. Starters played well, along with guys like roby and Horne playing decent. Jordy and Gill seem like they are pressing or trying to do too much. Hard to take TOO much away from this game I think. We still need a lot of work though, but then again every team does

It was a weird game to be at.  It was not even like an exhibition game.  It felt more like a controled coaches scrimmage.  The crowd was mostly asleep I think, know I had trouble staying awake.

Oh well on to Saturday

KenPom's MVP algorithm didn't see any of Jordy's shots

Got Vals on the way to your seat huh?

2pts and 4 turnovers for gill is a little worrisome.

some people were saying he would be able to put up similar production as white or petteway, but it's not looking like that's going to be the case.

good to see the freshman play better even though it was against lesser competition.

Attendance was 8,459. I'll have to go back and check but I think this is the lowest attended regular season game at PBA by over 1,000 people. Fan enthusiasm is slowly retreating back toward the Devaney days.

The devaney days there would of been 2,000 people there, 1) it's a midweek game against d2 team , 2) it's coming off of a huge conglomerate of events over the weekend

The student section's fake shot clock was working well.

We have to continue to develop the bench but at this point I think we're going to see a lot of minutes from the starting 5.  Roby looks to be the first guy off the bench at the moment and everyone else seems like they might not come in unless the starters need breathers and/or foul trouble.  Jeriah Horne showed me some handles in addition to that shooting....boy he just might start pushing up into that rotation.

Morrow's putback dunk to start the game.

I'll be honest, I questioned the wisdom of this game when it first appeared on the schedule. But after watching the bench during the Sac State game, this was just what the doctor ordered. Starting 5 looks good, really need to develop a solid rotation.

Don't sweat the crowd, like somebody said, this was essentially an exhibition.

I didn't see any of the game since I was working and it wasn't on tv. But sounds like the starting 5 is really good. Bench needs some work but will come around. Remember Jordy (1 wk), Zay (3.5 months), and Gill (2.5 months) all missed time in the preseason. This Saturday will be a good test before they play Dayton.

I'm gonna give him a long while before I make any judgment. He hasn't played in a while and is coming off an injury that took a lot of his practice time. He'll be fine.

Right now Gill is not the same guy I saw at last years open scrimmage that was just abusing AW III.  I hope that guy can come back because he looked really good.  Right now he looks like a guy who has been hurt and doesn't know what his body can do and can't do yet.

A few thoughts:

- Tempo was controlled by Mary.  It was slow and grinding which created some ups and downs.  Hard to say that with a straight face :)

- Beat them by thirty, could have easily been 50.

- Tai is looking confident and good.  Not only offensively, but defensively as well.  Good start to his senior season.  But the real challenges are ahead of him.

- Ed keeps looking better and better.  He is finding his game and he is one athletic son of a gun.

- MJ is the ultimate glue player.  He does his job which makes everyone around him look even better.  He also had a nice offensive spurt.

- Glynn blended in last night.  Didn't need to score, and like MJ, played the role of making his teammates look good.

- Jack still is not the quickest dude, but he has learned positioning.  He constantly was out of position last year, he seems to understand that concept this year.  His shot ain't bad either.

- I am going to pass off Anton's troubles to rust for now.  Hopefully as he rounds into game shape, his game will return as well.

- Jordy...hmm...keep the ball high son.  You keep bringing it down to the floor it is going to be taken from you.  We saw both the good and bad Jordy last night.

- Zay is a man.  He is just touching the surface of what we can expect from him.  What you see at the end of the BIG Ten season will be vastly better than what we saw last night.

- I like Horne.  Like him a lot on offense.  You can tell he is still learning to play perimeter defense.  He got lost several times last night.

- Evan looked frustrated at times last night.  Like Jordy he had some good, bad and ugly.  But I like his game, especially on the defensive side.

Saturday will be a glimpse into our future.  LaTech is a good team and a team that can cause us a lot of trouble.  It will also be interesting to see what the crowd will bring to the game.  I for one will be going to the football game in the morning/afternoon and then basketball at night.  Hard "to stay up" emotionally for that length of time.

I think they make pills for that now!

The band played Beer Barrel Polka during their post game show. I'd like to see them roll that one out (pardon the pun) during the game sometimes. It's a fun song!

And they played it well, like they really wanted to play so that some people would start dancing.

It reminds me of 2006, Doc's first year, when the Huskers lost to then-DII SIUE and struggled against then-DII UNO, before upsetting Creighton with a 67-percent shooting night... and the lattermost happened to be the first time that I rushed the court!
