  4. This is my only view of a prayer. Last year, I (and many others) thought we were going to see the start of a new and positive Era at Nebraska. Instead, it was a giant backward step into the abyss. It was one of the most disappointing seasons in the HISTORY of Nebraska basketball. And that is likely an understatement. Sooo, my lone beacon of dim light is that this coming season could turn out as a huge surprise in the opposit direction. It happened once before...just saying (but my breath is not being held)...49r I know...I know!

  5. Yeah that was a really crazy deal. They didn't manage to crack the KenPom top 100 until after the last regular season game of the year. They finished 6th in the Pac 12 and got the 5 seed in the Pac 12 tournament because Arizona self imposed a post season ban that year, then they went on a crazy run in the conference tournament and the NCAA tournament as a 12 seed. The 2021 Huskers finished that regular season with an almost identical KenPom ranking. (Huskers #94, OSU #93)

You can do that - but you better hope another team doesn't have a scholarship and NIL money. It's a cutthroat business. You "ask" someone to move on.

There is precedent for a player coming back from a cardiac event to play at a high level again. Some of you soccer fans may remember Christian Eriksen collapsing during the Euro Championships last summer: https://www.espn.com/soccer/denmark-den/story/4407267/denmarks-christian-eriksen-gone-before-cardiac-resuscitation-team-doctor He came back 8 months later to play in the English Premier League, pretty inspiring stuff really:

  16. Ralph Miller graduated from KU where he played for Phog Allen. I saw him coach at Wichita when the Shockers with Dave Stallworth played Drake for the old Mo.Valley conference title at a neutral site in Lawrence in 1964. That team beat Creighton handily in the NCAA and eventually lost to K.State. He went on to a Hall of Fame coaching career at Iowa and Oregon State.

Big lefty from out east. Couldn't shoot a lick. Constantly injured. Worked his way into the rotation and then got the starting spot after Thomas Allen's season ended. Was key in that big Iowa win where Thor blocked the shot at the end, which was his last game as a Husker as he was injured. Ended up at GW where it looks like he never got healthy.

For a team that will, in all likelihood, lack scoring… I think you have to carve out a role for him. Especially early.

A bit of a nutshell that Keisei is a situational player and his playing time should be dependent on a combination of - Is he 'feeling it' - Is the other team exploiting him Besides him being more experienced, I think that being paired with bigger guys like Griesel and Lloyd at PG instead of Verge and Webster makes his lack of size easier to hide on the court. Speaking of experienced, he's 1 of the 7 guys on the roster with D-1 experience so I'd expect a role for him at the beginning of the season.

I think what 49r meant to say was "Elisjaha Dicken can hit 80% of his shots from 40 yards. Why can't the Huskers do the same from 15 feet?" Easily offended, have at it!

Except the butt of the joke wasn't the kids with special needs. The butt of the joke was our basketball program and, honestly, there are times if I couldn't find a way to laugh about the last 3 years, I'd be crying. I think you're being overly sensitive if you refuse to acknowledge that fact. In other news, I think this is one of the best feel-good stories involving Husker basketball that I've seen in a very long time and I have nothing but high praise for Derrick Walker, who has always struck me as just a good dude, for organizing it. Good for him and I'm very happy for the ppl who were able to experience it.

I think it was just a self-deprecating joke that fell flat. I, @49r, and some others, have found it especially difficult to feel our usual optimistic selves going into this coming season. I don't think he was trying to crap on anyone's feel goods.

It took me awhile to catch up with my friend (death in the family etc) but here’s the main takeaway: The First Team was, Blaise, Walker, Griesel, Gary & Bandoumel. Looks like Fred is ready to Go BIG or Go Home. Wilcher, Briedenbach look very differently physically than last season. Lloyd is as polished as we’ve been told & for whatever it’s worth, the guys really seem to get along & LIKE each other.

The days of the 15 footer are gone. Analytics say it's a bad shot. As bizarre as it may seem, posts that can shoot threes at at a borderline respectable rate are more valued than posts that can hit 15 footers at a good rate.

It absolutes does not. But when 2 players have the ball in their hands 80% of the time, it makes it hard for others to contribute offensively and leads to poor team chemistry which seemed very obvious with last year's team.

On paper, you are correct that talent should equal better results but that is not always true. When your two best players are only interesting in showcasing their talents to impress NBA scouts and the other 3 players are left standing around watching to see what is going to happen, that is not winning basketball. When you put 5 guys on the court that only care about winning and not worried about their individual stats, they can compete with teams that "on paper" are more talented. This is why guys like James Harden never win championships cause all he wants to do it shoot and not do all the little things it takes to win. As long as he scores 40 points, he is happy. Don't sell this year's NU basketball team short. I agree that don't have the star power it did last year but honestly, I think that is a good thing.

You forgot There's so much more buy-in than last year You can just see the talent level has really increased They've really bonded as a team Guys are working harder in practices than I've ever seen Every single player is always the first one to get there and the last one to leave. It's remarkable really.

Buy-in, want to, toughness, and all the other intangibles are far more important than scheme. So if he can coach and has knowledge of the game, I’m not real worried about what philosophy he brings as long as it comes with passion and intensity.

Most reporters don’t have to name sources directly, and then there’s blowhard homers like Robin Washut who only have a following due to the facade of being some kind of “insider” who have to keep that facade alive at all costs.

At some point we have got to talk about our OFFENSE on this site. I've come to loathe the basic motion he likes to get into stuff. Everything is so high and cutting away from the hoop. It allows smart teams to just hound the heck out of cutters and deny everything. Makes us start even higher and well off our spots. IMO he needs better back-cuts, better use of the corner, and better use of the dunker spot in his offense. To me Villanova and Creighton run the best offensive action in the nation. Elite space, cutting, useful screens, no hesitation-automatic cuts. I hate our version of "pace." It seems to only mean look to get a shot quickly - which just leads to forced stuff. You can still play with incredible pace and have a possession where the ball touches both corners.

I will say this might be one of our better recruiting classes in a while. Last year was over-rated. I've seen some film on the two guards and I think they're pretty talented kids with some athleticism that should translate. I'm very worried about Blaise Keita's knees. In what limited action I was able to review of his, it seemed like he was VERY slow running up and down the floor. He looked like he was in pain. He was running like an old man. He did NOT look like the guy he was his freshman year when he lead his team to the juco national title. I'm hoping and assuming he's still in recovery mode and that he'll return to the athletic form he had as a freshman. If that happens, he'll be very good. I think Denim Dawson is really raw. Diving on the floor for loose balls in practice isn't going to get him on the floor. But we have a couple of freshmen and a NDSU transfer who could give us an infusion of quality depth, so there is some slight reason for some optimism. But I am not going to engage in or pay attention to "if they improve to X%" or "team chemistry is better than last year" etc. I am totally in "show me" mode. Some small reason for some optimism, but they're going to have to prove it.

I see. I haven't seen any reporters mention him considering leaving and he seemed to be pretty engaged to the end. I don't think we're going to see any sort of statement from him, he's just gonna still be here when school starts next fall.

We have a long way to go. Yes, year-end play provided some hope; but we need to become consistent in almost every phase of the game. I swore that I would not buy into any preseason hype. There is some proving to do. * we have to replace our top scorers * most of our team will be considered unknown entities. * roster and staff not yet settled * team character needs improvement * team chemistry remains unknown * how do we react to the win, or else edict? * even on those returning, how will they build their game? And finally, take a look around the league, what evidence exists that gives us hope of jumping over (say) seven teams??? Not trying to be a Debbie downer; but I repeat, we have a long way to go.
