  1. OurDecay

    Wisconsin game

I had season tickets from 1993-1998, and also went to a bunch of games in the 1990-1992 years...in my mind, the Wisconsin game at PBA far surpassed any of those games in terms of atmosphere. The reasons for that are expectations & stakes. Frankly, in my opinion our basketball fans have never been more hungry for success and hope than they were this last year. During the Nee era, NU sustained a high level of success...going to multiple NCAA tournaments, etc. But we hadn't exactly been "bad" prior to that. I think it is worth reminding people that in a 19-season span from 1980-1981 to 1998-1999, Nebraska: Had 17 winning seasons in 19 years (.591 winning percentage) Went to 15 post-season tournaments in 19 years (6x NCAA, 9xNIT). While they went 0-6 in the NCAA, they also went 19-9 in the NIT, three times making it to New York, and winning the NIT in 95-96. Went .500 or better in conference play 12 of the 19 seasons. Had eight (8) 20-win seasons. Had an average RPI of 57.2 during that span, and an average SOS of 44.6. NU had a top-55 RPI twelve (12) times. The following era of dispair, of course, started in the last year of the Nee Era (1999-2000). In the 14 seasons from the start of that season thru the end of last year, Nebraska: Had only 6 winning seasons in 14 years. Went to only 5 post-season tournaments in 14 years (all NIT). They have gone 3-5 in those games. Went .500 or better in conference play only ONCE (8-8 in 2008-2009) in 14 seasons. Had one (1) 20-win season (2007-2008). Had an average RPI of 112.1 during that span, and an average SOS of 60.7. NU only had one top-80 showing in the RPI...#74 in 2008-2009. THAT is the backdrop and context for the 2013-2014 season. To say that our fans were "hungry" for success would be an understatement. You saw that all come pouring out during that Wisconsin game. To find an equivalent relevant to NU, I'd have to go to football. I was a student at NU from 1993-1998, and the crowd with NU in 1993 & 1994 was much different (better) than it was even in 1995-1997. Because our fans flipped from hunger and desperation into expectation. People grumbled in the stands during those seasons, and we were winning national titles. I actually think the best equivalent in football might be the 1992 night game vs. Colorado...which as it turned out signaled the start of a new era for the football program. That is maybe the loudest NUFB crowd I've ever experienced. The fans were hungry. Back to NUBB, I think fans let expectations detract from their emotions and fervor in the Nee era. And under Collier and Sadler, I think fans never got the sense that we were truly building anything as a program, so even those stray upset wins sort of felt fleeting like fool's gold. The Wisconsin game felt like a step on a flight of stairs towards a new place that NU basketball has never been. Just my (long) take.

  3. Not until someone else transfers out....which is fairly possible with these guys. Guys have to wear name tags the first week of practice at UNLV

    Transfers

Kinda makes you sick losing players to LSU when they purge top 100 recruits like that.

  7. Not until someone else transfers out....which is fairly possible with these guys. Guys have to wear name tags the first week of practice at UNLV Player Personal Questionnaire 2014-15 UNLV Men's Basketball 1. Did you play on last years team? a. Did you enjoy this experience 2. When will you be transferring else where 3. For new recruits only: Do you estimate you will play for more than 2.5 years for UNLV

  8. It's going to be funny when UNLV fans start tweeting Jordan that he should walk-on at unlv instead of going to Nebraska.

  9. direct flights to Vegas though are available unlike to Lincoln from NO. Who needs a direct flight? It's not like you'd ever get stuck in the airport in Denver...

The drift I'm picking up is that the university put out an announcement (apparently) that if anyone leaves a bike locked to a university bike rack after a certain date, the university will come around, cut the lock and take the bike. The "defense" of these enterprising young athletes apparently is that it was after the date that the university said the bikes would be removed. And so they got busy and removed the bikes for the university? Y'know, just helping out, right? Scientists have apparently yet to find a cure for stupidity.

  14. I think he chooses us. How's that for positive thinking? I also believe that he's just excited for his free Las Vegas trip for the weekend even though he's not committing to them. That's what the tweets are all about. Free trip. Not because he likes the school.

    Tai's Bike

I hope this doesn't turn out to be a case where an athlete gets let off the hook by some legal technicality. seems like if you get caught with stolen bikes and a bolt cutter in your vehicle you should receive some punishment for adolescent stupidity. But the law works in strange ways at times, just ask O.J.

  17. My opinion of the guy is probably similar to yours, but I do think he can be a positive for us in the Cornish recruitment. Hey the man is due. Now wouldn't be a bad time to break that "curse"... To add to that previous thread, Cornish is def going to Iowa....

  20. I was at the event and both coaches were hilarious. I was with someone who isn't a husker fan and he said he'd go to the games just to watch Miles. I've seen standup comedy routines that were less entertaining than those two. McDermott went after Miles and his first comment was " now you all know what happens when alcohol meets Tim Miles". Good stuff.

  22. I dont follow a player until they commit because there's always a bunch of garbage on there but after all the talk about him I checked it out. I really cant understand why he would retweet so many UNLV things while hes still on his visit to Nebraska. I mean thats complete disrespect to a school thats hosting you. Do it on your trip there but c'mon man. I wasn't sold from the beginning and the more I see the less I want to see him. Would gladly take him but to me he has a lot of growing up yet to do.

    Wisconsin game

Some of the KU games in the 90's and the Michigan State game from the same era were pretty damned electric. During the height of the Nee era, Devaney could get pretty lit up. (I mean the building, not the coach, but I suppose maybe both would apply...)

I would rather dream about someday people will say "Remember when Nebraska was just a football school and now they have won the CWS, the Final Four and the FBS playoffs!"

  26. If he does end up at UNLV we should have a good shot at him in 1-2 years when he transfers

  27. I still don't fully understand the difference between first upward movement and leaving the floor. The seemed to call more charges as the year went on. I would prefer the option where it's really hard or almost impossible to draw a charge and they force the defense to actually play defense instead of standing there getting ready to flop backward. They did this with the secondary defender thing this year. Made it very hard for the off ball defender to take a charge. I like that. With this they just need to emphasize calling offensive fouls on ball handlers who initiate contact when the defender is in legal guarding position but not set. The kind where the defender is sliding along and the offensive player dips his shoulder to create the contact.

could be a good sign since they do play the same position.
