I don't care about Creighton enough to hate them.

I agree. I'll add, though, who's worth hating? ................................... No one, really.

Christian Laettner was worth hating.

K-State is worth hating (really, only because of where I live).

Notre Dame is worth hating.

Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees...both entirely hate-worthy.

Iowa might be getting there.

But not Creighton.

Nope, this is sports. Not worth it in my mind, at least.

What I mean by "hate" is a "sports hate" kind of a deal.

Do I really hate K-State?  Of course not--I have a graduate degree from the institution.  But I cheer against them in every sport.  Sports hate.  Different critter from hate-hate.

I agree with you that spending time actually hating a sports team is a total waste.

Thanks for the clarification, atskooc. I could get on board with that line of thought: "Sports hate" is 'nother animal, it seems.

I'm with HFev, "Boom" would be a worthy adversary along with Karl Hess & some of their ilk.

Wanna know why we have the complex? Years of your program dodging ours, years of some of your less desirable fans attributing all our success to us being members of a mid major conference, and a local media culture that ultimately exists to serve UNL athletics. Case in point - OWH writer Sam McWhatever openly cheering on twitter last night against the team his paper covers

These are not all necessarily my personal thoughts - but from what I've gleaned these are the major gripes CU fans don't/ haven't let go of

What ruined for me was 1). The year they had the kid who couldn't read and came to Lincoln and a couple of their fans wanted to fight me during the game because I was cheering for my team on my home court. 2). Being told as he left to fire up my tractor by some young fan the last time we beat them. Then being flipped off when I told him have a safe trip home. 3) when a lemo yes lemo full of drunk middle aged fans where yelling, yeah this is just like Wisconsin last week. My 16 son yelled back at least we have football. Two of them said bet you wouldn't say that to my face. He quickly hard myself 3 sons and two other Huskers step,up pretty quickly. I told them maybe they just need to open another beer and go home. They backed off pretty fast. 4) and to prove it isn't just men at the San Antonio NCAA games. A women was high fiving all the Iowa State fans as they walked by. My son went to give her a high five and she yelled at him I don't touch fucking looser Husker fans.

So yeah I really do not care for their fan base. But you know I am over it. Just want us to win. And then I'll just not say a word, will smile a lot though.

I think some of it is the Omaha vs Lincoln vs the rest of the state thing that goes on.

I listened until the Omaha comment. CU isn't even OMAHA's team, although they'd like to believe that. Husker athletics are far more the 'team of Nebaska' as many who moved to Omaha are from smaller communities of Nebraska! GBR

You do know what I mean with the, three parts of the state not really getting along though right. I know that Creighton isn't really Omaha's team, but...

I too had a bad experience last night, but I can't say that I'm surprised by it. Year after year we get embarrassed by a team that we perceive as our "little brother". What makes them our little brother? The fact that they don't have a football team and have a less enrollment total than us? The point is they beat us pretty much every damn year. And now they've got bragging rights for a year because of it. And even if we do win next year, they've built up a big enough streak to just look back and say "Congrats, 4-13" or whatever it is by now. I don't give a lick about the fact that they treat this as their Super Bowl, every time they play us they bring more intensity and more will to win. And that's just sad. Yet there's still a number of people on this board who will refer to them as if we're better..... C'mon, let's face reality. Right now they own us. And that doesn't give some of their fans a reason to be complete assholes, but I can be a little more understanding of it when some Husker fans won't accept the fact that they beat us.

Sorry for the rant I'm just real sour that I wasted my money to go see a complete lack of effort and complete lack of a change of game plan. That's just how I see it.

Oh yeah, I get what you're saying now that I know the context. Maybe I'm the outlier in that I've lived in both L & O as well as A. ;)

I do not hate them, but I do not respect the ones that did not go there or have some real tie to the school. I just knew too many Omaha folks that jumped ship to caring about them in the late 90's who are now very enthusiastic about it. It wasn't enough to just pack up and leave NU basketball, though. They had to trash it on the way out. So, in Omaha anyhow, they took a lot of the worst element of fan and kept them by doing better. If the tables ever manage to turn, I hope they continue to keep them. I doubt we would be so lucky.

What I do hate is how awful NU mens sports are.

Jacob Padilla writes for Hail Varsity and cheers for Creighton.  So, I guess I wouldn't complain about Sam McWhatever cheering on Twitter.  I'd be a bit pissed if I was a Hail Varsity subscriber and had to read a pro-Creighton take on the game.

Jacob:  Nebraska fans don't give a shit what wonderful things Coach McDermott had to say about Khyri Thomas after last night's game.  I went back and looked at your old stuff and you quote Creighton folks more in the Husker stories than you quote anyone from any other opposing teams in any articles about any other game Nebraska has played since you started working at Hail Varsity.  In fact, I don't recall any quotes by any players or coaches from any opposing teams in any of your articles about any other games than the Nebraska-Creighton game.  Funny that, huh?  (Did I miss one?)

Know who writes your checks, dude.

Speaking only for myself it is a football thing, a Big 12 days thing, and an arrogance/we rule the world thing.
