  1. Haven't gone back to read the other 29 pages in this thread to see if anyone has brought up Darrin Hansen. I think the best bet would be an assistant that has been in the Big Ten for awhile.
  2. It seems like such a turnaround needs to start with Watson trying to make plays for teammates. I don't know if it is the offense or it is Watson's decision making, but he is not trying to create for his teammates. In the last four games his assists totals are 1, 1, 0, and 1. It is not as simple as saying that he is not getting assists because other players are missing their shots. I have been watching for it and Watson isn't looking to make plays for teammates. I rewatched the Wisconsin game, and I only counted five times that he made a play that looked like he was trying to get a shot for a teammates. Only one of these five did the teammate miss the shot. One was a made basket and the other three they did not get a shot off. Seems like the point guard should be trying to set up teammates more than five times a game.
  3. Tanner was wide open on many pick and rolls with Palmer and Palmer doesn't even look at him.
  4. Feel really bad for Copeland. I noticed that Watson only had one assist. Hard to win when your fourth year pg only gets one assist. As someone else already stated, Watson drives to score and doesn't drive to dish very often. I looked it up, and Watson is averaging 3.7 assists a game, which puts him directly in he middle of the leading assist leader on each Big Ten team. I haven't looked up what his average is in conference play. Leader in assists on each Big Ten team: Cassius Winston (MSU) 7.3 Zavier Simpson (MU) 5.6 Ethan Happ (WI) 5.2 Anthony Cowan (MD) 4.6 Geo Baker (RU) 4.1 Glynn Watson 3.7 Isaiah Washington (Minn) 3.7 CJ Jackson (OS) 3.7 Josh Reeves (PSU) 3.6 Carsen Edwards (PU) 3.5 AJ Turner (NW) 3.5 McCaffrey and Bohannon tied (Iowa) 3.3 Ayo Dosunmu (Ill) 3.2 Devonte Green (Ind) 3.2
  5. It seems like Miles is better at coaching underdogs than teams that are supposed to win. If this season goes south, ironically Miles might have a better chance at getting that first NCAA win next year.
  6. Thanks for your response. I did not mean to imply that only NU fans are making fun of the other team. I specifically said that I hear CU fans say stupid things and that the majority of CU fans are not bashing NU fans. By that I mean that I know that there is a minority that is. I know all of this goes both ways, and was just addressing the questions of earlier posters.
  7. Earlier in this thread, some of the posters wrote that they don't understand how NU football fans can root for CU basketball and not for NU basketball. I'll share my story to try to demonstrate how that happens. The short answer it that it happens slowly over time. I am a small town Nebraska kid. Born and raised in small towns in Nebraska. My father lived and died with the NU football team and I naturally became a big NU football fan. During basketball season, my dad watched both NU and CU when they were on tv, so I did also. He supported both teams, and so did I. I also have a grandfather, aunt and uncle who were CU alums, so that added more reason to also like CU. I am a big basketball fan. I love it and definitely like it more than football. So, I watch as much basketball as possible and it is more fun to watch local teams. I then went to Creighton for undergraduate and grad school. Since I am a big basketball fan, I naturally went to as many of the CU basketball games as I could. I have been going to the CU games since the '80s. During this time, I continued as a fan of NU basketball also. The only time I didn't root for NU basketball was when they played Creighton. My dad drove to Omaha to go to CU games and because he loves his kid he also roots for CU in that one game a year. I did and still follow NU basketball, but over time it has become harder and harder to root for NU basketball. I really didn't understand all the mid-major bashing when CU was in the Missouri Valley. Why can't Nebraskans support all the teams located in Nebraska? I admit that it is my fault that I listened to sports radio and read this fan message board. That certainly doesn't help keep support for NU basketball. I hear and read stupid things from NU fans. Yes, I also hear and read stupid things from CU fans but it really starts to wear on me when I read so many sweater vest jabs and so many posts that think it is funny to misspell Creighton. I know many many CU fans that never bag on NU fans about Omaha vs Lincoln, quality of education, etc. that I see griped about on this board. That is not the majority of CU fans. The hardest part to stomach is people bashing on Omaha people and CU alums for supporting more than one school. Why? Supporting each other seems like the mature and generous thing to do. So I keep trying. I am sure there are many rude Creighton fans out there because that is true of every fan base, but that is not what I am addressing in this post. I am just answering the questions posted earlier in this post about why NU football fans are not also NU basketball fans.
  8. My observation (without research to verify) is that assists are too low. Lots of driving to the basket, but most always a shot and not much drop offs to posts or out to shooters. Three point shooting has suffered, and good passing and inside out passes generally help that. I have thought for years that lack of a playing making assist guard is one of the team's biggest deficiencies.
  9. With all the talk of Miles not being able to recruit a quality big man, the lack of good point guards who can put the posts and forwards in a good position to score has been certainly lacking. Lesser post players can be made productive through good guard play/offense.
  10. I thought Shields was too aggressive in Miami game and dribbling into triple and quadruple coverage but then was too passive in the CU game. I saw that the offensive plan was for Shields to get his teammates involved, but he passed up drives when there were not too many defenders in the lane. it was like he had already decided that he wouldn't take it to the hole.
  11. As I watched I did not think the officiating was bad or unbalanced. Shields was great but often dribbled into the middle of four defenders. I thought they did a good job of surrounding him without hacking. He may have been getting kicked but I did not notice it on tv.
  12. I did not get to see the game. How did we handle Cincinnati's press? There was lots of talk about it before the game.
  13. I don't think there was enough depth or athleticism last year to press. I think it may be more effective this year and would like to see it. it also helps cut into the shorter shot clock this year.
