We all know that the upcoming season will have low points despite the new talent which we see, and that preseason expectations always exceed the results, except for the team which finishes with a win. This thread will allow everyone to list what they would feel are the realistically achievable goals which would make them feel satisfied when the year ends. Here are three things which would make me happy. 1. To see coach Miles break his personal losing streak against coach McDermott 2. To see coach Miles finish the year with a win/loss percentage above .500 at NU 3. Play in the NIT. Any one of these results would be enough to set the stage for the next few years which should be considered the true start of the Miles era at NU.

I would like to see a team that takes care of their non-conference opponents that we should beat. Cincinnati, Miami, Villanova, and Creighton are not games I expect to win - but getting 2/4 of those would be great, but not expected.

After that, just hope to see a team that is playing hard and playing together. My biggest hope is to see by late February and March that we aren't grasping for straws with silly line-ups, silly set plays, or doing things just in hopes to get wins. I want to see a team that is doing what we practice, and trying to get better at those things. Not adding more and more and more just in hopes to score points.

I don't have a win record I want to see, I don't have a post season goal (I'm NCAA/NIT or bust, hate the other ones), and I don't have a conference record I want to see. I just want to see Shavon and Benny have fulfilling senior years, because I love those guys.

NEXT YEAR, however, I expect 20 wins. Sophomores can win games in the NCAA. AW, TW, JH, and NF will be seniors to provide leadership and toughness - and the sophomore class should provide the skill and scoring.

I agree completely with Jimmy's hopes.  I'd love to see those things as well.

However, I won't necessarily consider the season a failure if those things don't all happen.

But I also agree with Jones:  The real test in my opinion happens next year.  We ought to dance next year.  I think it's possible we could dance with the team we have right now, but we darn well better dance with this crew next year.  If next year's group can't do it, then I'll be hugely disappointed.

Talented sophomores are old enough and experienced enough to get you to the dance.  Talented sophomores did so for us two years ago.

i want to see more consistent PG play. PG is one the one position that has been mediocre at best for the last several years. I want to see us get over the hump with Creighton. We need to get this series back under control and in our favor. In general I want to see this program finally get its feet on the ground, where from year to year there isn't so much upheaval. I want to be talking about us as a potential bubble team come February. Finish the season strong.

A few goals:

- No more than 3 losses pre-Big Ten.

- Place somewhere in the 6 to 8 range in the Big Ten

- One win in the Big Ten tournament

- In the running for NCAA, perhaps make it...if so, win one in the dance

- If NIT, win two to three games.

Perhaps reachable goals.  Pretty possible in my pea-brain.

i'd say sub .500 would be a failure and anything above .500 a success.

with an injury free season, i see no reason we can't at least get to 16-16 in the regular season.

shields will be a legit 18-8 guy and white, morrow, mcveigh, and watson are big time additions.

tai, benny, fuller, and hammond should all be improved as well.

i'm not sure what to expect out of bakari and jacobson, but it sounds like they are quality backups at the very least.

  • Being in the NCAA conversation in Feb/March.

Being competitive, maybe winning a few, with upper division teams.

Watching the young'ins grow as the season progresses, overall player development (doing the little things right, gata, decision making, etc)

Learning to be competitive/win on the road.

For me...1. Development of the young guys 2. 8+ wins in the Big Ten...we have a favorable schedule this year. 3.  Make sure Watson or Morrow does not transfer.  4. Use all the scholorships this recruiting cycle.  I don't expect this to be a NCAA bound team...just not seeing it with the inexperience we have on the floor.

In a simple sense, I'd rather not spend more than half of our games frustrated by our offense that doesn't seem to do anything but wait for the scorer to make a play.  I will measure success this season by my frustration level with the offense (knowing we are young, of course).

Game One Ruminations: Do better than Iowa, they lost their exhibition to Augie (not Garrido) 78-76. ;)

(... like, losing to Augie Garrido is nothing to ashamed of, even if he's 76 & can hardly hoop it up anymore - see TO/Miles video compilation for TeamMates...)

Onion Rings

Can't believe I didn't think of this earlier:  Runzas in at least half of the home games.

That's how I would define success this year.

Off to a good start!
