Norm Peterson Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 https://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1679184 I'm reading that right, right? Akol wants to commit to Nebraska as a 9th grader so that he can be the youngest Husker commit ever? I mean, that's what he said. He's already 6'3" and in 8th grade and the people that apparently know say he could be the best of the Arops. In which case, I'm glad he's made up his mind already and wants to be a Husker!!!! Wooohhoooooo!!!! Edited to add quote: "It pushes me to work even harder," Akol said. "I know (Aguek) was the youngest player to ever commit to Nebraska as a sophomore, and now I want to beat him by doing it as a freshman." Quote
Swan88 Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 Gotta tip your hat to the recruiting efforts of Tim Miles & Co. They obviously know what they are doing, have a plan for the long-haul, and are working that plan very well: filling the roster cupboard this year with high-end recruits and setting the stage with high-end recruits for years to come. He did NOT say it was NU he would commit to, just he wanted to commit as a freshman. That's not what he said. The antecedent of "it" as in "doing it as a freshman" was "commit to Nebraska." His brother was the youngest ever to commit to Nebraska. He wants to beat his brother's record. How can he beat his brother's record by committing somewhere else? If he commits somewhere else, then his brother will still hold the record for youngest to commit to Nebraska. See? That's exactly what he said. Nebrasketballer and jdostal 2 Quote
atskooc Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 Can't say I expected to encounter a pronoun-antecedent reference on the board today. Quote
Dean Smith Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 They are right, he didnt exactly say commit to Nebraska as a freshman. He used a pronoun, but since the noun gave up its armature status he can't play at Nebraska anyway. hhcmatt 1 Quote
Swan88 Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 It seems pretty clear that the recruit was talking about Nebraska. Nevertheless, isn't it ironic that we, who live or grew up in the USA and sat through multiple classes in school dealing with the English language in some way, are trying to parse the phrase of a youngster who, prior to 2003, lived in Sudan, where the most used languages are: Arabic, Sudanese Arabic, Najdi and Hejazi Arabic, Chadic Arabic , Nubian, Dinka, Beja (knows as Bedawit), Tigre, Beni Amer Rotana, Fur, Kordofanian languages consisting of numerous languages like kadu, Katla, Mandi, Rashad, Lafofa and Talodi–Heiban, Nuba Mountains languages, Temein, Domari, various Niger–Congo and Chadic languages, and other tribal languages, with some people speaking English. Come to think of it, perhaps members of the Arop family would know the English language better than many of us. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 "It pushes me to work even harder," Akol said. "I know (Aguek) was the youngest player to ever commit to Nebraska as a sophomore, and now I want to beat him by doing it as a freshman." "Doing 'it' as a freshman" specifically followed his brother being the "youngest player to ever commit to Nebraska as a sophomore." It's fairly clear that the one is a direct correlation of the other. Hence, the youngest Arop can not be the youngest Arop to commit to Nebraska if he doesn't commit to Nebraska! Personally, I think a triple Husker Arop would be the best the Arops can do for NU! Nebrasketballer 1 Quote
HuskerFever Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 It doesn't matter what he says. It matters what he does. Can't wait. hhcmatt 1 Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted December 5, 2014 Report Posted December 5, 2014 Well that ain't good. But he will have two years to get back in shape. Hope he heals quickly. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted December 5, 2014 Report Posted December 5, 2014 Saw that on twitter.... hope Arop heals up soon! Quote
trickey Posted December 5, 2014 Report Posted December 5, 2014 Ouch!...serious injury...yet totally fixable with a lot of work. Best wishes to AA. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted December 5, 2014 Report Posted December 5, 2014 The worst part is by the growth plate. I'd hate to see some irregular growth like one leg longer than the other that could derail him going forward. Thats the biggest thing that ended Greg Oden's career with one leg longer than the other and his microfracture surgeries. Quote
Vinny Posted December 5, 2014 Report Posted December 5, 2014 Get yourself well Aguek! We're pulling for you! Quote
