So do McVeigh & Agau play 1-on-1 at halftime of NU-IU to see who gets the last scholarship?  ;)

Anyone know why McVeigh didn't sign anywhere in the early period?

Probably because he hasnt been to the US to visit any schools.  He is visiting LSU this upcoming weekend so hes killing two birds with this trip since they are his final 2.

I'd rather we use the scholarship on a true post player (unless Fuller, Webster or Hammond transfers).  McVeigh doesn't seem much different from Fuller and Jacobson.  Plus we'll have Andrew White and Isaiah Roby in the future as well.  We need some muscle down low.  I like Morrow but he is only 6'7.

I agree we definitely need to add a true post, but it may not be an "either/or" situation.  The rosters are always fluid these days.

I think we all want bigs but they dont just grow on trees and the good ones are guys that everyone wants.  If we cant get them I want to go out and get the best athletes and shooters available that can play multiple positions and try and out gun the other team.  McVeigh seems like a guy that would fit that quality.

Nick Fuller seemed like that guy too.  McVeigh seems a lot like Fuller, - good outside shooter, but not quick enough to be a guard at this level, and not big enough to be a post.  His film doesn't really impress me much.  And as Webster has shown, International success doesn't necessarily translate to success here.

With White, Jacobson, and Morrow coming in, I just think we should try to use the scholarship on Agau or a senior transfer post player.  But if Fuller and/or Hammond decide to transfer, then that changes things.

I kinda feel burned by most international players.  Outside of Aleks, it doesn't seem like we've had very good luck (spanning multiple coaches).  Maybe its the fact that Webster has come nowhere close to matching the hype.

to be fair to Tai, only one guy, Fran Frichilla, touted him as a great player.  He was a 3 star on Scout and 247 and unranked on Rivals.  Take out what Fran said and we would expect him to be just like a lot of other 3 star guys NU has signed and had some flashes but just didnt quite pan out for us but wouldnt necessarily be a "bust".

I think that hype might have been our fault as a fan base... put a lot of pressure on an 18 year old shoulders.

I may have met his family outside the arena before the game.

That is cool you're bilingual, are you fluent in Australian?

If he comes to Nebraska I'll be able to help you with the translations if you like.  :D

They may have been his family or they may just have been some rando Aussies, but we were discussing how cold it was and I couldn't help but notice one of them did smile and say, "We'll just get used to it I suppose" or something like that.  It was the certainty of the "We will" part of it that caught my attention.  ;)

OK, the level of the competition in this clip is absolutely putrid.  It looks like a pick-up game at the rec center.  But it does show some things.

1.  McVeigh has a great shot.  I love his mechanics.  He has a very compact windup and delivery.  No wasted, herky jerky motion.  Just windup and release.  And linear.  From his shoulder through his elbow to his fingertips.

2,  It's a very quick release, so he'll be able to launch his shot even without a ton of space.  It also looks very repeatable.  He's shooting it off the dribble in this clip.

3.  Decent elevation on the jump.  Not great elevation, but I don't know that he was trying that hard in this clip.  Again, it looks like a pick-up game at the rec center.  Still, he's not shooting it flat footed.

4.  Hard to judge his athleticism but his ball-handling skills appear to leave something to be desired.  Looks like an Australian kid who hasn't watched enough American basketball.  But that can be fixed.  Fortunately, the shooting doesn't need to be.

so he's basically nick fuller, but maybe an inch taller with less experience playing in the US.
