He wasn't very good at KU but it sounds like AJ Storr is transferring I'd definitely kick the tires

We do have the Connor connection-- I thought he was already an older transfer though..

I've always thought Kojenets was a good prospect for development. Not sure if he'd want to come back to NU, but I'd be fine with it if that came to pass. Hope wherever he goes works out for him.

Watched him in one of the MW games this year... at least the few minutes he got to play. Dude only averaged like 9 mins and 2 pts/2 boards a game. I mean if he'd like to come here on his own and be a part of our practice rotation, it wouldn't hurt to have a big dude. But the chances of him seeing the floor are very slim to basically zero I would think.

Would you spend 60-70% of your NIL resources to get your top 3 players? More? Less?

We need to hit the jackpot in the portal this year. And we need at least one each of a point, a scoring wing, and a big man.

I guess that 60-70% numbers depends on what the resources are. If you are going to sit us at 2.5 mil again, then you almost have to spend that and more to get your top 3... but that top 3 will pale in comparison to if your budget was 5-6+ mil.

I'd rather have Jackson from IUPUI than Cadeau.  He costs you less and gives you more.   Though...having a distributor like Cadeau would make a wing tandem of Essegian and Sandfort intriguing.

But that still leaves you without a big man.   I'd argue we need two bigs as well as well as an athletic combo guard.

I don't understand the obsession with thinking we have a major need for one let alone two big men.  Mast is our "big man".  He is our center next year and should play 30+ minutes/game barring injury.  Berke can cover the other 10 minutes/game as backup.  Yes, we can and should get an additional "backup" big, but it should be more in camp of a "cheap" big, a body, not a stud big.

The vast bulk of the NIL needs to be spent on a PG and a wing.  We don't have the dollars or the luxury to spend any significant sum of money just to have "depth" at any position, including the center position.  The reality is NU doesn't have sufficient NIL to field a roster with quality depth.  We have to try and get 4 to 5 good players and hope no one gets injured.  That is our best bet.  It is a gamble, but at least it gives us a chance.  Trying to get "everything" will get us nothing just like it did this past year.

Explain to me our NIL.  We have money for incoming transfers.  How much are we spending to retain players?  How much is Mast getting, the two redshirts, Janowski and the kid from Lincoln?  Is Sam getting paid?  Is 2.5 million the total or what is available?

We need a third big in the rotation with Mast and Berke. And what we found out from our experience two years ago that Texas A&M exposed in us was that we weren't a dynamic rebounding team. Mast was getting badly beaten on the boards and we didn't have anyone who could sky for those rebounds. Berke is a good rebounder, but if you're only playing him 10 minutes/game as a backup to Mast, you still need someone else.

Two years ago, we had Allick and Gary to go with Mast and we still got killed on the boards. This coming year, you're proposing we only have Mast and Berke?

As soon as we get one big, which I think/expect we will, we'll have a 3 different guys who can slide to the 5. I personally like mast around 27-30 mpg, especially coming off his knee injury. But that's still 3 guys. Just can't air mail this one like they did meah. I've mentioned this elsewhere, but let's hope this past portal class was an anomaly for them, because the past two had an extremely good hit rate for impact guys.

Point guard who can shoot at a high level and a wing who can score are the top two priorities imo, so I agree about dedicating a lot of money to those two spots before doing anything else

You need more than 2 front court players on your roster.   Especially when both are behind the curve athletically in the Big 10.   Mast is skilled enough offensively to make up for it.  Berke is not.

Not to mention you have Essegian, Frager, Rhymes, Janowski, Hoiberg, Griffiths (currently) and Sandfort (possibly) who can play the guards and wings.   Now...I'm not enamored by that group.   But that's 7 guys to play 2 spots.   That's plenty.  We currently have 2 guys to play 2 spots in the front court.

I do agree that PG is the #1 need.  But an athletic big is easily #2 at this stage.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but just a reminder that rosters are capped at 15 players starting next season, just like football with 105. That includes walk ons, so going into next year, we have 11 players on the roster (excluding grace from this since he walked on senior night), leaving us with 4 spots. Educated guess tells me 2 of the 4 walk ons move on. Would then put us at 6 schollys before any portal departures.

Ideal situation for me:

Gavin Griffiths transfers

PG - Jalen Jackson, IUPUI
SG - Athletic CG who can get to the rim and defend
SF- Pryce Sandfort, Iowa
PF/C- William Kyle, SDSU/UCLA
PF/C - Bangot Dak, Colorado (not in portal yet but rumored too, with the coaches following him)
PF- Maikol Perez, HS, Italy

Would give you this roster:

1. Rienk Mast, C, rSr
2. Connor Essegian, SG, Sr
3. Jalen Jackson, PG, rSr
4. William Kyle, PF, Sr
5. Unknown Combo Guard
6. Berke, PF, Jr
7. Bangot Dak, PF/C, Jr
8. Pryce Sandford, SF, Jr
9. Braden Frager, SF, rFr
10. Nick Janowski, SG, rFr
11. Quentin Rhymes, SG, Fr
12. Maikol Perez, PF, Fr

Walk-Ons:
1. Sam Hoiberg, CG, rSr
2. Cael Jacobson, CG, rJr
3. Justin Bolis, PF, rSo
