May be an image of 2 people, people playing football, people playing basketball and text that says 'Nebrasketalks @nebrasketalks· 1d Today's S wild stat even surprised me. Fred Hoiberg has the most wins in years 4-6 of any N Head coach in History Fred Hoiberg 56 Mo Iba 53 Dany Nee 55 Barry Collier 51 Doc Sadler 46 Tim Miles 50 In this im going to take another deep dive into each of those coaches first 6 years Mauka Tanh'

With Fred Hoiberg's next victory at NU, he will tie his grandfather Jerry Bush with 81 wins coaching dear old Nebraska U. It's been a wild ride these past 6 seasons but a pitiful 21-66 start was unfathomable in that it led to a competent past 3 seasons (plus 4 games from the prior yr.) as it's also been 59-51 since a 3-1 ending to Bryce McGowens one-and-done year, even with the travails lately of 4 straight L's it has been good overall these past 3+ yrs.

Obviously the NIL "talent acquisition" this past year hasn't yet equated to a total team, it's my opinion that the coaching has been generally superb to at least put the guys in a position to win a bunch of games, yet somehow NU has been a snakebit 0-7 in one-score games this season. It's hard to imagine, but it is reality, sadly. Now is no time for pity parties, however. Just find a way to beat Iowa.

Beating Iowa on Sunday would end the Hawkeyes season at 15-16 and 6-14 in the B1G, while conversely,  that B1G win for Big Red would also allow NU to make the Big Ten tournament, a bare minimum for our beloved Huskers to achieve. Nebraska can finish the regular season at 18-13 and 8-12 in the B1G, which is still respectable. After attaining that B1G win on Sunday, anything can happen in Indy, but we gotta get there first. It will be a sold-out PBA for Sunday, so let's get ready to be our best that day. Let's do this. And then stack some dubs at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. GBR

Also kudos to Fred for how he handled the poor officiating during the Ohio State game. He let the Big Ten know he wasn't happy about it, but did so in a respectful manner. No over the top bitching and moaning. The result was a call back from the Big Ten supervisor of officials acknowledging the mistakes. Who knows, maybe this will help us down the road.

I personally wanted blood but sure, I guess the high road is ok.

Sorry but I'm going Michael Corleone (me) vs Solozzo and McCluskey  (Pfeiffer and Carstensen) from here on out!

Can you imagine Bobby Knight's reaction to some of the calls we are seeing, if he was the coach?   I'm certainly not advocating that behavior; but the PBA likely would not have enough chairs in stock.

tim miles got fired after going 41-28 in his last 2 seasons.

fred is 40-25 in his last 2.

losing our best 2 players. what is the case to keep him?

Unless the “donors of substance” want Fred removed it’s not going to happen. The buyout is too expensive.  I would grant him one more year.

Ben Johnson who had a better record than Hoiberg was fired today

Ben Johnson is getting bought out for $2.93 million.  Bill Moos's cocktail napkin where he notes "FRED GETS PAID" will hold up in court about us owing 100% of his contract.  For better or for worse, it's the Coach Fred show.

Damn I forgot about that.

Does tim make it past year 4 if he had went 40-83 in his first 4 seasons?

To play devil's advocate, Miles finished bottom three in the conference in 4 of his first 5 years. Years 3, 4 and 5 were no better than year 1, and he still got two more years.

With Hoiberg, there was steady improvement in years 3, 4 and 5, culminating in an NCAA tournament appearance. Year 6, although disappointing, was still good enough to be on the bubble until March. Year 7 feels like the same for Hoiberg as it was for Miles - make or break. If there is a collapse, I'm sure we'll be having a coaching search at this time next year.

Nope.  Fred easily gets more slacks [sic] than Tim. The boosters like him and the athletic department is bought in on him. We're simply not at a point where we've underperformed so badly that you're going to eat that much money.

If you're talking about whether or not we should keep Hoiberg instead of what changes should be made to anything he does, you're wasting your time.
