Gary has a relationship with Frankie from calling UNO basketball games. The guy's had a kid on his show that committed to Iowa. The fact he's doing it on Gary's show doesn't mean anything in regards to where he'll end up. I personally think he's just gonna shock everyone and just stay at UNO tbh.

A 'do you know how the sausage is made' moment because how close have you looked at where our basketball players come from? Some of them go to 'basketball factories' at some point. Some like Sunrise in Kansas are exactly the same as Parkview here in Nebraska. Some are basically a training facility that also offers school. If you're someone with enough means, you certainly could do your own version of that. At the end of the day if a kid gets an education that could prepare them either for college or the work force, where they get that education is variable.

I was listening to Sharp's show when he announced that Fidler would name his school on Monday. He made an interesting comment about how Fidler was lucky that he had two high character local head coaches (Fred and Greg) that gave him an honest evaluation of where they see him fitting at a Power 5/6 school. He didn't elaborate but just said that the portal world was tough because you have a lot of people out there that aren't being honest with kids about their roles.

Wisconsin fans think they pitched him the AJ Storr role. Frankie liked being "the guy" for Omaha. I am interested to see what he chose. Stay close to home and take on a lesser role where he's not the primary scorer. Or buy the snake oil that Gard is selling.

If Jamarques Lawrence is leaving, I'm guessing it's because they were honest with him and told him they didn't see him having a starting role this season. And if that's the case, I find it hard to believe they would tell Frankie Fidler he would have a starting role here. I've heard they really like Ulis more than people know and that leaves Williams/Gary and two big men (Mast + 1) as our starters. 

 

I will be shocked if it isn't Wisconsin, and I'm OK with it because I think we're about to load up in the next couple weeks.

I won't be shocked if it is Wisconsin, but I'll be disappointed.  I don't think we are going to be adding too many players better than Fidler is.

Fair. There aren't too many players in the portal rated higher than Fidler or with his scoring prowess. 

 

What I meant was I think from 1-12 (assuming Frager redshirts) we are going to have a very deep squad.

I'll believe that when I see it.  I think we can add a decent player or two yet....but we aren't going to be adding a bunch of studs from the portal to be our 11th and 12th guy.  Portal guys don't want to sit the bench.

Seems more likely that we'll have a solid 1-7 followed by an 8-12 that you pray never need to enter the game.  The guys who could have been that quality depth left.  And how many transfers do you know of that are happy to become the 11th man in an 8-man rotation?

I bet we get at least 4 real good transfers (1 already in). Add that to Ulis, Brice, Gary, Mast, Sam, and Jano. That would give us a pretty nice 10 deep. Then fill in the rest with younger guys to develop or mid level guys for depth.

When Sharp was talking about his conversation with Frankie, he referenced the option of coming back to Omaha. Wouldn't be totally surprised if he was back at Omaha next year. At this point, I'd be more surprised if he commits to the Huskers than any of the other schools. I'd love it but I still suffer from the Nebrasketball ailment where I believe we can't have nice things and that things can't be easy for us.

It'll be guys like Boogie that want a shot at a larger school, and may/may not work out.  However, those guys aren’t guaranteed to be the team player Boogie was either.

Except for homes-schools (like Hawks' Flower Mound Rebels) there's no standardized curriculum or standardized testing.  So in addition to robbing public schools of funding, there's zero promise that they are preparing the students for professional life.

 

Change the subject from Hawks to Deion's now defunct "Prime Prep Academy" and I bet most of this board would be vehemently against it.  Here's a glimpse at PPA's math proficiency versus the TX state average:

If he goes back to UNO, that's an impressive feet by the bull market. I got to think that what the 4 schools on his final list can offer a rotational player is much better. Or maybe he's one of those weird loyalty to guys who tested the waters and realized he liked where he was. If that's the case good for him, he's the last of a dying breed

There are legs to the NIL money they put together that is pretty good for them but notably less than what we're offering

Exactly, who really cares how ppl want to live their own personal lives... it's odd to cast aspersions on another for that.

 

So, it's "cool" to hate on another on this.... not the flex some may think it is, public school defender. Not one cares how others live their own personal lives, if it works for ya, go for it. If you don't like it, learn to live with it... <Rant over.>
