I was inclined to trust Trev whatever he decided.  I was uncertain which way to go because the revolving door of coaches has not worked, but then again, by God the record!  In the end this may have been about the money, but I hope and pray Fred makes wholesale changes for the better.

Let me get something else off my chest.

I'm going into next season behind this team and behind this coach. I will bring the best I have as a fan to the arena every game and cheer for them as hard as I can, which is what I've always done. I've upheld my end of the bargain.

But to people like Robin Washut and Chris Basnett and the people who write for local sports media and talk on local sports radio, do me a favor, please.

When we're heading into next season, I don't want to hear any interviews with any players talking about how the level of buy-in is so much better than it was a year ago. How the guys get along better than last year. How you can just see that the level of talent has improved.

That talk is so cheap.

I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear any of it.

Prove it on the floor when the games count.

Until then, spare me the noise.

@Norm Peterson I propose that when the hype train starts getting rolling (oh, sometime around May or June) that you revisit this thought in a new thread.  We need to constantly remind ourselves to be vigilant against this insidious hype.

Remember how we used to laugh and laugh at Iowa when they extended (undeservedly, we all thought at the time) Kirk Ferentz' and Fran McCaffery's contracts?  And now we are all jealous of them and their program's stability and relative success (especially in relation to ours)?

Maybe this is the move we don't want to make but maybe it's the move we need to make.  IDK.

My memory is getting a bit fuzzy, so please remind me.  Were Fran and Kirk finishing last in the B1G every year when they were extended?

if you look on the board it's already started!  There are people pumping up recruits.  Saying how amazing these guys are.  They are either the coach or the "press" in disguise or need to cut back on whatever they are smoking. My opinion isn't worth a lot here...but I'd like to start seeing the "Is N" posts get put somewhere other than the main board until they prove themselves...they aren't really worth talking about in great detail. What they have done is meaningless once they put on the husker gear if they can't continue to either improve or at a minimum show what they did before.

With all due respect you've gone galaxy brain here.

I get a little excited anytime a post starts "with all due respect."  It always ends in a witty keyboard piledriver, and yet it's tasteful because it's stated with "respect."

as I said...my opinion isn't worth much around here.  I just saying I'm to the point where I see a post that says "so and so is N" and I'm like BFG.  The equipment managers are about as N as the guys that haven't put on the Uniform and they deserve more hype than someone who hasn't played OFM of Husker ball.

For what it's worth (and with all due respect to @hhcmatt 😉 ) I am pretty solidly with you on this one.  Keep it in the recruiting thread...but that's just me.

I was only playing devil's advocate here and using the Iowa example to illustrate my point.  Let's not assume any more than that.

How is it possible that I can't name a single MLS soccer team despite the fact we have 18 page thread about it on the main page?

What does it have to look like next year for Fred to be coaching come fall 2023? We could make significant progress, double our wins, basically look like Northwestern this season - and I still don't think that would be enough. Feels like at the very least we would need to be in that 7-10 in the B1G range, and a bubble team.

You have the power to make any changes you feel are necessary.

I can name two cities L.A. and Kansas City. But thatsas far as I can go with it.

There is almost zero chance of that happening. It is going to take a lot for us to not finish in last place in the conference.

And while I might not agree with it, Fred Hoiberg is the coach of the basketball team I cheer for and I am going to pull for this team to succeed as fervently as I have for any 4th year coach in the history of the program. I want this to succeed. At this point, Fred is my coach and I'm going to be behind him until we see what things look like next season. And I will hope that I can continue to be behind him even then. I hope he succeeds. I really, really do.

This is disappointing. I'll still cheer them on, but will likely do so at home.

The best thing that came out of this is the decreased salary and lowered buyout.

I'm going to not stress over wins and losses, because there are going to be almost as many losses next season as this one, and instead focus on how they play.

Are we competitive. That's it. That's all I care about.

Yeah, a 15-17 or 14-18 type season would be an insane improvement, but does that even move the needle? Thats still no NIT, no meaningful games at the end of the year. 18+ wins doesn't even seem like its in the realm of possibility.

Step one win every game up Creighton.  Step two get the Creighton Monkey off their back (yet again..the damn thing keeps getting on their back)..step three...make it out of the Creighton games with none of your players getting multi game injuries...step four build off Creighton win and win the next game.  Beyond that I don't know. I don't think they will make it past step 1...but gotta start somewhere.
