Will they or won't they: A poll

  1. 1. So ... will this coming season start on time?

    • Yep, like clockwork. Opening night will go off as scheduled.
      24
    • Probably end of November tournaments in the various islands will be the start of the season.
      9
    • I'm thinking probably beginning of December. Like they used to do.
      13
    • I doubt there'll be a fall semester. We're probably looking at only conference games beginning in January.
      29
    • No, and I'm afraid the next season of basketball won't start until November 2021.

I always thought Frida was better looking than Agnetha.

Concert from last year.  My picks on songs worth listening to are at the 3:30, 18:30, 58:45 and 1:20.30 marks.  IMHO, Agnetha has some puffy bags underneath her eyes, but both would qualify for car rides, even at their ages, in Lincoln parks with Standharginger, especially now that they both have herd immunity.

Jennifer Marlowe or Bailey Quarters?

Bailey had that whole “naughty librarian” vibe going on & was nearly as stacked as Lonnie, just hid her light under a bushel so to speak....  Let’s also not forget Lonnie (the pride of Roseville MN) was also Mrs Burt Reynolds!

Back to the original topic.  What do you think of the governor and now the NSAA allowing high school student athletes to use the weight room starting June 1?  Ten people in the room max and must practice social distancing.  One major problem is if you have someone spotting you, you are breaking the rules of social distancing.

Fact. You get a proven positive test coming from a high school weight room and there goes any hope of a fall sports season in Nebraska.

That could very well be.  I was surprised about this announcement.  Why not take the summer off and be safe?   It still might not happen as each school could refuse to open their weight room although that could add a lot of peer pressure to the situation.  Also, I don't see how you can allow weights but not other sport specific workouts.

U of Iowa just sent us an email about campus activities ramping up. Here'e the relevant part:

Iowa’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will begin returning select coaches and staff on June 1, 2020. Football student athletes who choose to participate in voluntary workouts will return beginning June 8, 2020, and Men’s and Women’s Basketball student athletes beginning on June 15, 2020. Student athletes will participate in a formal clearance process for the return to voluntary practice. The process will follow NCAA, B1G, and campus best-practices and supervised by UI Health Care medical staff.

If this was an epidemic that resulted in facial disfiguration, the Iowa men's basketball team would have immunity.

Source: Nebraska basketball players will return to campus between June 1 and June 6. Unclear if the four international players -- Yvan Ouedraogo (France), Dalano Banton (Canada) Shamiel Stevenson (Canada) and Thorir Thorbjarnarson (Iceland) -- will be able travel back to the US.

Four probable rotation players

Homeland security cleared Pro athletes for international travel to the US over the weekend...hopefully college athletes will follow soon?

OWH had a few updates on guys getting back to campus today:

  • Webster has a family friend on a farm with an NBA sized court in a barn, so he's driving there almost every day
  • Allen has been working out a local gym in Lincoln 2x per day, lifting weights 4x per week with some other unnamed teammates
  • Banton & Stevenson are expected back from Canada soon
  • Thor & Yvan probably will have to jump through some hoops to get back to Lincoln, so they'll be delayed, perhaps quite a bit
  • Other than the international players, everyone should on campus at least by June 6

Men’s basketball coaches told the team workouts will be on the floor with two to four players at a time, plus some weight lifting in groups. Groups will be separated between guys who have been able to stay active in the gym in the last few weeks and guys who have not, Webster said. Most of the team, it appears, has been able to get shots up. Sophomore Yvan Ouedraogo, junior Derrick Walker and senior Thorir Thorbjarnarson have all posted videos on social media playing in empty gyms or outdoor courts.

Canada/US border still has a restriction on non-essential travel through June 21. I'm curious to see how collegiate athletes are handled with this restriction.

OWH says all but 3 -- Thor, Yvan, and King -- are on campus and working out.

Thor & Yvan are still waiting for travel restrictions to be lifted.

King is waiting for academic clearance, but that's expected sometime this summer. He's still in Wisconsin.

Banton & Stevenson made it back from Canada several days ago.

Everyone who is in Lincoln went through testing and 48-hour quarantine & is cleared for workouts at this point.

Yvan, Thor, and King (if eligible) are all part of my predicted rotation. Huge opportunity for guys like Akol and Eduardo Andre to close the gap or maybe even get a leg up.

Probably doesnt matter so much for Thor and King since they both are very experienced CBB players and will more than likely transition back in seamlessly.

I still believe there will be no football/basketball/volleyball/etc this fall.

MLB has still yet to set a start date, which is concerning.

The real question is who is going to be the first one to step out on a limb. No one wants to "that" person who is going to potentially put their neck on the line.

I imagine what is holding everything back is related to legal concerns along with public perception.
