“The first thing you notice about Yvan is his size and physicality, especially for just turning 17 in March. He gives us an immediate physical presence which was a priority for us. He has unbelievable upside and is someone we think can develop and flourish in our system.” - Coach Fred Hoiberg

Yvan Ouedraogo (pronounced Ivan way-drah-O-go) from Bordeaux, France has signed his National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball for Nebraska.

Nebraska Men’s Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg announced Monday morning that Yvan Ouedraogo (pronounced Ivan way-drah-O-go) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball for the Husker basketball program next season.

This past season, Ouedraogo played in 26 games for Centre Fédéral de Basketball, which is a program in the top amateur league in France. Despite turning 17 in March, he averaged 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Ouedraogo was also selected for the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in the U18 Division, averaging 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds against some of Europe’s top youth competition, including a nine-point, 10-rebound performance. He has also represented France in international competition, including the 2018 FIBA U16 European Championships, when he averaged 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Nebraska currently has two scholarships remaining for 2019-20 (three if Isaiah Roby stays in the draft)

unreal how many players fred has added. Miles only addition his 1st year was Sergej...

I've discussed this with others before, but I see a new coaching job as either maintaining for short term survival or rebuilding for the long term. One isn't necessarily better than the other, it just depends on the circumstance. Miles maintained/added a couple guys and it got him an NCAA bid in Year 2, something that hadn't happened in about 20 years for our program. Hoiberg is taking a different approach. Should be interesting to see how this shapes up.

well, there's some size.

and a dude that speaks french!

You know, if you ditch the first syllable of his surname, his name is close to Ivan Drago.

Coincidence? Entirely.

Spot on, one chose to overhaul the entire roster, one did not.

It’s easier to overhaul a roster when you have the cache Hoiberg does. Miles was well regarded when hired, but he was far from a household name with recruits and their parents and mentors.

Hoiberg also had inside intel with a holdover assistant and brought along a killer recruiter. Miles elevated the program and our facilities and fan base are gushed over every televised home game.

Basically, Hoiberg has every edge on Miles when it comes to flipping roster. I don’t mean that as a defense or attack on Miles. It’s just the way it is.

Dont forget: Miles kept Doc’s version of Isaiah Roby.

Oh I understand and agree with everything you said.  However, he didn't have to chose to flip the roster and could added a few bodies for fill the roster.  I have no issues he flipped it.

Right. He technically had a choice, but like all top coaches with recruiting chops, he went with the only real option.
