uneblinstu Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 (edited) BLACKJACK Nebraska hits 21 wins for the first time since the 95-96 season Photo courtesy of Instagram Had to grind that one out a bit, but they needed that one, big time. This was a weird game. The first game felt like it was stuck in Champaign. It was maybe the worst half of basketball NU's played this year, at least on offense. Fortunately the defense made Indiana play ugly, too. The second half, they eventually found their legs again and zoomed past IU. I think the game was won when NU was forced to put Copeland and Palmer on the bench with foul trouble early in the second half, down 1 and turned that into a lead before they got back into the game. Jordy came up big today. With the aforemoentioned JPG and Cope in foul trouble for a bit, we needed someone to step up. His rebounding was big today. Roby continues to play well. He fell a rebound short of his fourth straight double-double. Evan also comes up big with the game on the line, seemingly every time. He was one who stepped up in that period where the big guns were on the bench. Glynn was better today. Still a couple sketchy decisions, but he hit a couple of big shots and that put back and-one was big time. I think they got their butts chewed at half for all the 3's they were taking. The first half was so frustrating. 16 3's was absurd. 0 free throws was even worse. They had more free throws than 3's by double in the 2nd half and it probably what turned the tide. Was this the most offensive rebounds we had all year? 19 is as many as I can remember in a long time. That was another big stat in the game. The FT stats don't look great becasue they missed a few in the last minute, but they hit their first 9, I think, and that was big, too. Basically, NU just dominated the last 14 minutes of the game or so. IU has some dudes. I feel better now that PSU can't pass us in the standings. We could have the 4 seed locked up 22 hours from now. Regardless of what happens in Happy Valley tomorrow, NU still needs that game badly on Sunday, and PSU likely will too. Should make for an intense basketball game. Crowd is gonna need to be better than they were most of the night tonight. Let's finish this thing out right! View full article Edited February 21, 2018 by uneblinstu hhcmatt and tcp 1 1 Quote
imnothipp Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 Great win. Evan Taylor is going to be hard to replace. Right place right time. Great leader. Stating the obvious, Roby is so good. Unfortunate they called him for his 2nd foul when is was on Jordy Why does Isaac Copeland spend so much time around the 3 point line? Drives me crazy. He thows those dunks down and it just makes no sense. Has Miles ever had a lineup of Taylor, Palmer, Roby, Copeland and Jordy? I would like to see it. Not for a long stretch, but they could be tough to defend. Jordy had a nice 2nd half. I like his hustle. How he is misses layups so bad, is mind blowing. Lets hope he fixes that... Quote

The IU player behind him shoved him in the back as the driver was turning the corner, never had a chance and got trucked on the drive. NUtball and B-town hoopsfan 2 Quote
B-town hoopsfan Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 Tonight’s game ball should go to the crowd. Forced 19 or 20 turnovers and got the team going after they had nothing in the first half. Im gonna get killed for this but havin jordy in there just changes things for us. Now he didn’t play good tonight but he just gives us an actual post player on offense. Now if he could just catch it and shoot it in one motion we would have something. Nice bounce back from glynn. At this point getting this outta him is a win. Some good assists tonight n great defense, the 3 that hit the side of the back board sums up his year however. interested to get some thoughts here and ya I know it’s to late in the year for this now but w Taylor thriving off the bench n gill previously being basically a dead eye three point shooter from 3 before getting put into the starting line up should of they tried Allen as a starter and let both gill and Taylor come off the bench? Give Allen till the first TV time out then basically give gill n Taylor their usual minutes? I believe gill is shooting 25 percent since becoming a starter? Love the feed back you get on this site. FredsSlacks Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 in theory, our tourney chances seem good. -beat a penn st team at home that we took to overtime on the road with palmer sitting the final 20 minutes. -beat a michigan team that we already beat by 20. Quote

Palmer sitting the final 20 minutes and Jordy out altogether. They'll have Josh Reaves too, so it will be a lot different than the first go around. Quote
hal9000 Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 It seemed IU was intent on making someone else besides Palmer beat us. They doubled him every time he drove. We had open looks at the three, but we’re not hitting them right now. I’ve a feeling we better make those on Sunday. Quote
B-town hoopsfan Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 Probably can pump the brakes for those saying palmer is leaving after the year for the NBA too. The dude looks tired as all get out which I don’t blame him but the books kinda out on him now, not saying he won’t adjust n if the zebras would use those whistle things he wouldn’t have to but get physical w him n hedge hard he is having issues with ladyhusker 1 Quote

tcp Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 this is just one where you take the win and move on. this team has the most irritating habit of trying to win games in the last 8-10 minutes of a game. they really need to put some of that mania into the rest of the game, too. i think that habit cost them the illinois game and nearly cost them this one, especially when they decided to miss every single free throw they were awarded at the end. they're close to be a really good ball club, but they need to clean up the mental side of the game more than anything else. cjbowbros Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 A win vs PSU and loss to Michigan in the tournament gives us 57 RPI. The opposite plus a loss to Michigan State gives us 59. Do you guys think that enough? Quote

We need to win our next two and hope Michigan performs in at least one of their final 2 games, if not both. If we're 23-10 with a win over Michigan and a 13-5 reg season confernece record.....it's going to be hard to ignore...even with our lack of quality wins Quote
Faux Mike Peltz Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 Absolutely love Evan Taylor. I know some who sit around me don’t, and are quite vocal about it, but he is our lunch pail leader, who has made numerous energizer-Benny type plays that part go unnoticed. Agreed, he will be hard to replace. Red Rum, NUtball and AuroranHusker 2 1 Quote

Do you guys think that enough? i think we're about to see some exceptions to the reign of rpi this year. the quadrant system is messed up enough, but it's highlighting the weaknesses of the self-fulfilling prophecy component of the rpi. i think we get in if we beat psu, even if we lose the first rd game in the tourney as long as it's to a #5 seed. We have to beat PSU, tho. If we lose that one, we'll likely have to make the tourney finals. Quote

It sure feels like this team should be in over a 16-11/6-9 BIG 12 team that is on a 6 game losing streak. One of those 6 games was to the "last place team" in the league too. Right Lunardi? What an a$$ clown! Lunardi's dumb a$$ probably has Oklahoma a 6 seed still! Anyway about the game. I felt Roby was having somewhat of an off night, and he still got the player of the game. Not one of our players were on their A game, and we still found a way to win. That is a good sign IMO Bugeaters1, REDZONEDAN and NUtball 3 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 Tale of two halves. We settled in the first half and went hard to the hole in the second. Ended up being a fugly game. But, nice win ...Great job shooting free throws, until the last three minutes. ...Evan had an excellent second half. ...bad, bad, bad shooting in first half. ...good team approach in the second half... ...good crowd. ...Roby's rebounding keeps impressing me. ...Jordy rebounded well and hustled...but geez, those hands. ...credit Indiana for playing a tough ass game, Norm Peterson 1 Quote

He was 1 for 3 in the mid post area which is just fantastic to see him there. That will be the area where the most growth in his game will show for next year IMO. Love that he’s takin 3s w confidence now too so dangerous to have him n cope out there together when we play the bigger teams AuroranHusker 1 Quote
nustudent Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 The beauty about Roby is that even when he has an off game...he's still so productive in other ways. Huskerpapa Posted February 21, 2018 Report Posted February 21, 2018 Isaiah always commits two bad fouls a game. They are not always his fault, but they get him in trouble. I think he got another butt foul tonight. Quote
