  1. I was watching at the banquet last night and I was wondering while they were presenting Miles with the B1G Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year if that was sinking in with Deng. Hopefully, I know if that was me in his position, if I wasn't sure where I wanted to go, that an item like that might help me decide. I think having Deng at the banquet when both of those were presented to Miles had to hammer that home with him.

  5. Saw Deng at the basketball banquet tonight. Definitely looks 6'8". Thin but athletic build. Was sitting next to Coach Harriman all night and looked like he was having fun.

  6. Duke1Agn must be reeling from this latest news. Cunningham was all but a lock for Creighton and now he's off to some podunk mid-major Missouri Valley school instead. Ouch. That one has to hurt.

  7. Yeah but who knows what goes on in the head of a 18 year old kid. Do we still think Tim screwed up if he goes to one of the top programs like UK, or UNC or even MSU? We got him here on his own dime, he should come back on our dime sometime this fall, but after that it is really just a toss of the dice. All recruiting is. I think that is why I liked the old days when we only knew about a kid when he or she signed. Because we didn't have 100,000 guys trying to sell themselves as some sauvant. Just me, we get him the best thing ever, until somebody better comes along and then we worry about if tht kid likes us enough to play here. It gets kind of tiresum for this old guy.

    Huskers Award Night 2014-15

It was a fun night tonight. Was able to get pictures with a couple players and a selfie with my wife and Coach Miles. To top it off, Coach even retweeted our selfie just now. It was awesome!

  21. Glad we were involved early and established relationships through an assistant who didn't bolt to another contender. Back when Doc was still here, we talked about Mike Gesell being sort of a litmus test on Doc's ability to recruit. If we didn't land Gesell, it was like confirmation or proof that Doc wasn't a good recruiter. I wonder if Morrow represents a similar litmus test for Miles. He has ties to the school since both of his parents went here. He has ties to the town since I think he lived here during grade school. The table is set and I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't land this kid.

  23. The move to Peru seems like an odd one on the surface, but makes more sense when you hear Behrens talk about it. They have improved facilities, and since they an upper level NAIA school they can offer more financial aide than the GPAC schools. When you add in that it's a state school and they have lower tuition rates. Then you add in that it's close to Omaha, Lincoln and St. Joseph Missouri and he has some population bases to go after. Behrens will likely target a lot of North Omaha kids who because of the above reasons could financially go to Peru rather than other options. He likely is going to have some good success there and could built that into a promotion in the future. I think Tim Miles is showing coaches that you can get a Power 5 conference job by working your way up the coaching ladder. If Hanson ever leaves UNO, Behrens cold be their next choice. Also another thing to remember is that Behren's kid is going to be a freshman in high school next year. And from what Eric said on 1620 is that they always don't have the best on court relationship. Coaching him at the high school level may have been too much for Eric and that's another reason to go the college route. Look for his kid to end up at Prep instead of Central too.

  27. I was thinking the same thing. I understand giving the award to the senior, but the stats (.410 vs. .335 3pt %) don't back up the distinction. Still proud of what Ray gave us over his career, especially after deciding to redshirt and really turn into an important player for us his last two years. Nice tip of the cap to give him the award. Must be based on total triples made this season... and, IIRC, RayRay finished career w/ more than 150 made threes.

  28. I'm so confused... are we supposed to embrace the rivalry now like they've always wanted us to, or are we supposed to just try to ignore the blue elephant in the room and continue to pretend they don't matter to us? I'm afraid I'll just never understand.

  32. GTFO, troll. We're not the ones posting on the message board of another team... Go back to your Creighton site to talk about your mid-major newBigEast basketball team and worry about how the teams in the Big Least Conference are going to fall even further behind the big boys, now that the NCAA is going to remove financial restrictions, which will allow the power conferences to spend what they can afford to spend on athletics... If you're going to take the time to blast someone, make sure you do your homework. Dude's name is "Central". He typically posts about Central kids and has been nothing but pro-Huskers on this board. Why is it his fault if you guys read Creighton boards and get pissed about it? Seems like he has a pretty good point. I have never read a Creighton board in my life--I just read Norm! (But I agree Central is just fine (as long as he isn't competing in a spelling bee))

  38. I still think Patterson's got her vindictive hands involved with this somehow. The new women's basketball coach probably can't believe what he's gotten himself into. He can't help but hate that it's playing out the way it is. He took a pay cut to take over this job and now, most likely for the next how many years he's going to be recruiting his butt off with nothing to show for it. Then after four years the administration will say they want to take the program in another direction because of the losing seasons and he'll be out on his rear end looking to catch on somewhere else.

  39. Thanks Kansashusker, good to know they did well. I also had heard Friday night Jessica Shepard was tearing it up at the Boo Williams Nike tournament in Virginia so I dialed up Jess Shepards team on the computer yesterday morning and watched her All Iowa Attack team dismantle a good Miami, Florida team. I tell you what Jessica looked like a woman among little girls. Miami basically had no answer for her. I lost count of how many times she got the ball out on the wing and drove the baseline for an easy lay-up. She rebounded well, shot from the outside well and even led the fastbreak a few times. All Iowa Attack played a 2-3 zone defense so never really got to see her in a man defense. Fun to watch, as a result of her AAU play this spring Hoopgurlz now has Jess bumped up to the third best player in the 2015 class. Jessica's teammate Whitney Fuller on the All Iowa Attack team has given Iowa a verbal and she hit like 4-5 three pointers in this game. Another one of Jessica's teammate is Jaycee Bradley from Norfolk. She played a good ball game also. Haven't heard too much about her but if she keeps playing like she did yesterday she's bound to get some offers sooner or later.

Hoops Email Exchange: Forecasting the 2014-15 Big Ten Season and the Fates of MSU, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebrasketball - Maize N Brew http://www.maizenbrew.com/2014/4/28/5661234/big-ten-basketball-2014-15 How about a team we haven't discussed, which arguably was the most interesting story of the season--yes, I am talking about Nebrasketball. Sure, they got bounced in the first round, but nobody saw a top four finish for them this season. Do you think they're just a flash in the pan or will Tim Miles keep it going in Lincoln? (this one is definitely worth a read, IMO - click the link for more)

  43. I have a buddy that attends a bunch of tournaments like the Hoop Hall Classic, the peach Jam of the EYBL, etc and says Morrow is better as a complement player than being the man in his opinion. He said when he watched him playing AAU as the top man he didnt play as well as he did at Simeon with jabari parker last year. Now obviously not everyone has a Parker to take the spotlight off of him but theres always a target on the man. I think Petteway/Shields is the best example of "the man" and a complement player. Petteway is going to get his shots no matter what but Shields this year seems to be the complement guy when they put the pressure elsewhere he exploits it. I have no problem with either because every team needs both.
