Is it time to get realistic about this season yet?

Do you think we will have a winning home conference record?

Do you see 5 wins?

The only ones I see we could be favored in are Rutgers and Minnesota.

The good news is we have nothing to lose at this point so hopefully the guys won't play loose.

Indiana

Minnesota

Michigan

#4 Maryland

Rutgers

Penn St

Ohio St

#14 Purdue

I am not willing to give up yet.  We scored 70+ points.  We were up by 12 at one point in the second half and we were up with several minutes remaining.  We were in the game until the two or three minute mark.  Our defense failed us and our scorers forgot their flippin roles.  Perhaps a correction or three will provide a more positive outlook.

I really want to believe this, I really do... but when we shot as good as we did tonight and still lose by nearly double digits, I can't imagine how we'll be when we're struggling. Things were clicking tonight, but so far I see that as an outlier this year. Teams like Purdue and Maryland can win games when they're not at their best. The same cannot be said about our squad right now. Please prove me wrong, Nebraska.

I've been in the two years away camp. This team just doesn't have the pieces to compete. We're short on talent, experience and, well, we're just short. The veterans are decent but not talented enough as a group. Watson is the only freshman who should not have redshirted (except we couldn't afford to). We don't seem to have a center. And our staff doesn't seem to know what it wants to do from game to game, because they're too busy patching leaks in the rowboat.

I think the main thing Miles needs to do is figure out a course and stick to it consistently. I can handle another losing season because I expected it. I'm not sure I can handle another offseason with roster upheaval that puts "the future" yet another year away.

To sound like a broken record, we need bigs.  This play a 4 at the center spot might have worked at CSU, it won't here.

I think Jacobson is a center.  He's the same size as their freshmen who went for 28 points and 12 rebounds.  If he can consistently give us 7 and 4 a night that will be good.  And, for the love of God, either tell us why Hammond is not playing, or play him.

I think Miles needs to have a basic minute distribution for players, adjust off that based on match-ups and how the players are playing.

My basic distribution

PG- Benny 20 Watson 20

SG- Watson 5 Tai 25 White 10

SF- White 25 Shields 15

PF- Shields 20 Morrow 10 McVeigh 5 Fuller 5

C- Jacobson 25 Hammond 15

Rotation and Minutes played

Benny 20

Watson 25

Tai 25

White 35

Shields 35

Morrow 10

McVeigh 5

Fuller 5

Jacobson 25

Hammond 15

It would work a lot better if everyone on the floor could shoot

Well there is that too

Ditto!  The BIG is down and we still can't finish in the top 5?  For those that feel recruiting has improved since Doc was fired, I just don't see it.  Miles should be given credit getting some good transfers, mainly Petteway 2-3 years ago. IMO he was the main reason we made the NCAA tournament, but he was also responsible for us not playing as a team at times. All that is in the past and I don't see us getting much better.

He's still got lots of work to do, but while in previous years where his best players were transfers, this year I'd say is his best year year of freshman recruits, as a foundation for the future.

You'd have to say that thus far Tai Webster was his best freshman recruit.  But now we're starting to bring in some better freshman, along with continuing to also recruit good transfers.  This seems to the recipe he's going off.  I'm worried that this year might hurt future recruiting, but I gotta think that if we can land "that guy we're currently trying to get," next year momentum will really start to pickup.

Really, it seems fairly apparent to me that the raw talent is better than it's been in a long time. Just hasn't come together yet.

Also, Petteway wasn't the reason things went south last year.

Hear!  Hear!  I post on another board (football - Auroran ;) ) and I am always surprised at how much animosity there continues to be toward Terran (you know what I mean!).

To hear them talk you'd think they regret that Petteway even ever wore a Husker uniform.  To me, Terran is just a part of the 'magic in a bottle' the team captured to make our run to the NCAA ; But, without him we never even sniff the Tournament!

It seems almost to be like: how dare he arrive on the scene and get our (fans) hopes up 'only to be dashed' once again, seemingly perennially, 'on the shoals' (at the bottom of the league).

Just think how good this year's team would be with Terran.  Having him and White on the same team with Shields being your 3 option to score, we'd be a pretty solid bunch.  Without Terran and reaching the NCAA tournament, we wouldn't able to recruit all the 4 star kids that have committed here.  He has had a huge impact on NU basketball.
