There. I said it. Que both the group that agrees with me and also the sour grapes group. They flat out sucked tonight. Whether they are the reason we lost or not and independent from the thought that there were things we could control to give us a better opportunity--they still sucked.

They were not the reason we lost.  However, they were bad.  It started with the charge on Terran in the first half.  Frank bumped him three times on the way to the hoop, then the Wisconsin player was late to take the charge.  Benny's no call on his lay-up was awful.  You know the refs blew the call when half the Nebraska bench ran onto the floor, and the ref didn't give them a tech.  The foul on Tai was a bad call when he trapped Koening in the corner.  Wisconsin did that all night against us and the refs swallowed the whistle.  The final play was when Kaminsky grabs the ball falls down after Shields tied him up.  The ref 5 feet away with a great angle called a travel.  The ref from 45 feet away overruled him, and called Shields for a foul.

Win or lose, I appreciate a well-officiated game.  This wasn't one of those and not by a long shot.

Yeah, we still lose.  But I don't go apesh!t when we lose and the refs call a quality game.

Even if we win, if the refs are bad it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

So, go ahead and say it:  Tonight, the refs sucked.  Horribly.

Here'e the sort of night it was

At one point one of the refs during a timeout stood there staring into the crowd.

There were a few fans heckling him by this point because it was after yet another clown call.

After sitting there staring and getting upset about it he started motioning over to the cop because it seemed like he wanted people in the 100 level thrown out. When it didn't happen the ref finally started just staring out over the court.

I agree that we shot 20% from the field in the first half and once again were soft on finishes and that's basically why we lost this game. I also don't have a huge problem with the foul discrepancy...that's part of playing Wisconsin.

The crowd booed these guys off the court and booed them back on the court because of that call on Petteway.  They spent the rest of the second half overcompensating for it with questionable calls. A guy fell on top of Benny. A complete clown show out there tonight.

At times tonight, I thought someone was actually going to storm the court and attack the bald one.

The Bald one was the worst, followed by the dark haired one.  The lesser of the three evils was the other one.

How many times did the bald guy overrule somebody else.  How about on Kamisky's travel towards the end of the game, when he then called a foul on us???  AFTER the ref closest to the call called a travel.

From my section, I saw Security having a planning meeting to get those refs out of there and avoid contact with the crowd.  Right before half, I saw a police officer talk to two guys sitting baseline about them booing too loudly.  F that.  I paid for my season tickets, I can boo to express my disagreement in a horsecrap call if I want to.  Or is that against Big 10 rules too, like not showing the replays???

Yeah, I saw the cop having a discussion with a couple of courtside guys.  They immediately started pointed all across the student section to people who were also booing (as if to say, what're you gonna do, kick us all out?)  Cop went back to his post.  Ref didn't push it.  Lucky for him.  There might not have been enough security in the building at that point.

Ah yes, that was during a timeout in the second half.  I actually saw 7 security guards, 3 of which were Armed form a wall to stop the lower section so the refs could leave, and each ref had an armed police officer walk them through the tunnel.  The Bald one had a smirk on his face.  What is his name?  I'd like to have a chat with him.

I believe he goes by POS, otherwise known as Brian Dorsey.  The others, of course, are the VERY well-known Ted "TV" Valentine and Gene 'I do NFL too' Steratore. All had an off night, all around.

PeltzFan12 (in another Thread)

"Which one was the Bald guy who overruled in Wisconsin's favor like three times.  He called the offensive foul on Petteway just before the half...and then overruled when Kaminksy traveled, he came racing in from halfcourt and overruled the call and called a foul on us.  He needs to look himself in the mirror tomorrow morning and get a new profession."

How do they do that?

Does one ref have overall control?,   Seniority?    Referees Union?

Unfortunately Brian Dorsey has an ego.   Sure, the man is handsome and he knows it.    But I know a lot of handsome men who don't act so arrogant.

And let's not forget when Miles tried to call a time out after a husker made basket. Steratore was right beside him and Miles was asking for the time out. Steratore ignored him and Valentine finally saw Miles and granted the time out. And then Steratore acted like Miles kicked his puppy and confronted Miles.

Not sure how many of you listen to Steve Czaben on Yahoo Sports Radio but he dislikes Steratore and gives the impression that Steratore is "on the take" and decides the outcome of NFL games.

While I will say the 3 blind mice struggled badly last night, we benefitted on several occasion.  Petteway had at least two if not times he could have been T'eed up and wasn't.  The above mentioned when the team came on the floor.  Miles was upset after a blown non-call and chased Dorsey down the floor screaming and it was let go.  That said, I do believe right or wrong when you have kids that are good (Frank K and Sam D) and are ranked highly you will get the benefit of the doubt calls and it was clear that was the case last night.

At one point after he was called for an offensive foul, TP stood up and made contact with Dorsey.  I (obviously) thought it was a bad call, as did 15,000 of my friends...but when contact was made, I about had a stroke.  I thought for sure TP would be teed up and likely thrown out of the game.  When he wasn't, in the back of my feeble brain, I figured Dorsey thought he had blown the call, and made the quick decision NOT to provide the T.

Now if that had been Teddy TV, he likely would have fallen backwards, stood up, pointed at TP and then Teed him up.

Not saying the ref'ing was good by any stretch but I can't even begin to point my finger in that direction when we only scored 13 points yet again in the first half.

I think this thread would be here if we won that game last night.

And/or would have gotten the second "BOOM" technical foul for Nebraska on this season.

Must have been a pretty rough night for you, Noah...I saw you on TV sticking out the Northwestern game to the bitter end, then having to come back to watch the Huskers do what they did.

At least the rest of us only had one disappointment to sit through last night.

And the players apparently agreed with that assessment.

“Our games have been called like that the whole year, so it’s just something we got to mentally prepare for the whole game,” he said. “That’s what we tell each other, every time we come out, we know we’re going to be playing 5-on-8 every time."

Not wise for a player to confront the zebras in the media. Inevitably the inclination will be that he is a troublemaker and he will  not get the benefit on questionable calls to demonstrate who is in "control". Just ask Suh if this isn't the case. Perhaps it is time to shut down Terran after games and just let him demonstrate his "beast mode" during the games.

I had the same stroke on that play in a different location

I think we as a fan base are getting a reputation like our team - crybabies. The game was pretty well officiated IMHO. There were very few calls I disagreed with overall. I do disagree with Valentine's demonstrative ways and center of attention attitude however.

We do ourselves absolutely no favors with the way we posture and cry for calls. Sometimes it hurts us in the moment because people spend time complaining rather than getting back on defense. There's a right way to debate calls in order to get the officials to call more in your favor and it's not the way we go about it.
