Nice article in the LJS today about conditioning.  Most of the comments were by the S&C coach.  High points are:

 

Tai's body fat is down to about 6% and he's working on gaining back about 8 lbs of muscle he lost while playing in the World Champs.  Not uncommon to lose weight while playing.  Happens during the season.

 

Terran had to stop lifting for about 3 weeks because of a sore wrist.  But he's back and he's killing it.

 

Shavon Shields is a stud.  Apparently in really good shape for the year.  Does surprisingly well on everything they do.  Deceptively quick and fast.

 

Tarin Smith is jaw-dropping explosive.  One-legged jumping on a box, could jump to 36 inches.  That's 3 feet.  I'm assuming that's like jumping off one foot and landing on that same foot on a 3 foot tall box.  With a two-foot takeoff, he can reach 55 inches.  Dayum.

 

And then Jacob Hammond runs very well.  Needs to gain strength but that isn't going to happen overnight.  But runs well.  Runs the best of any of our bigs.

 

No mention of Walt or Moses.  Did say it'll be awhile before Leslee would be available.  He's running on a treadmill and way ahead of schedule but these ligaments have to heal and he's not going to be available for awhile.

I started incorporating the box jump into my workouts about 2 years ago. I won't even attempt a one leg jump. Jumping straight up 55" is a heck of a an accomplishment. It's a great way to build explosiveness.

As I've said before, the only way Petterway doesn't leave is if he (we) has a terrible year.

 

But I've been told White III is every bit as good and is a more efficient player, so we should be just fine. If we have both...we're going to have some damn good players that won't even be starters for us. Can you imagine?

Everyone seems to be overlooking Hammond. The kid led the Sunrise Christian Academy in scoring his junior year when they were rated #6 in the nation. He will be very good by his sophomore year. Just needs some bulk and strength for defense in the B1G. Already effective on the offensive end.
