- In my opinion, it’s a pretty big honor to have Bobby Valvano call our game during V Week.

- Nice to get off to start off 14-6.

- Liked some of what we did early defensively. Thought we did a nice job of keeping Wake from running. Some nice rotations and help.

- Had some chances to extend the lead that it would have been nice to have. At the end of the half, too. That said, when Wake had opportunities after their run, they missed some opportunities, too.

- Not sure I’m a fan of having Menke, Parker, Peltz and Rivers all on the floor at the same time.

- Gave up a handful of put backs that were unfortunate. That could be a bit of a bad trend starting to develop.

- Ubel is doing a lot of really good things.

- Talley doing a little too much dancing on the perimeter. Not sure if he’s good enough to do a lot of that. I’d like to see him run the offense a little more. He’ll get plenty of looks in the flow of the offense.

- Nice to see Andre finish that little hook a few times, in traffic, too.

- Perimeter defense struggled a bit there during Wake’s run. That could be another disturbing trend developing…

- Our guards struggle from the line a little more than guards should.

- Really like the response and composure after Wake’s run.

- Almedia looked fairly quick when he had to move laterally a few times, both ends of the floor and when a player has to shoot over him, he’s intimidating. He just needs to stay on the court. Wake really had no one who can guard him and that shot was falling tonight. Andre’s really good when that’s happening.

- When Gallegos comes off that high screen at the top of the lane, he’s really good at knocking down that jumper.

- Great energy to start the half. I think it caught Wake a little off guard.

- Good to see Gallegos knock some shots down, too. Huge game from him.

- The story on Saturday was that no one but Talley and Ubel showed up. Not the case tonight.

- Thought Peltz played really great tonight. Nice spark plug and he’s steady.

- Offense looked pretty crisp in the second half. Helps when they knock down shots.

- Huge game from Andre and Ray was phenomenal tonight. They don’t need them to explode every night to be competitive, but they do need them to show up. The talent is there.

This was just a complete effort from Nebraska tonight, especially in the second half. I'm not going to make any claims that Wake Forest is a good basketball team, but they did seem to have some talent that's struggling to figure out basketball as this level. But, I love the passion that Nebraska played with tonight, I loved the fight and the response that they showed after Wake went on that run in the middle of the first half. There was a lot that went right for the guys and I'm glad that this team doesn't play as though they are aware of the expectations on this team. There will be rough days ahead, but tonight was a good one, enjoy it. Good win, tonight!

My views of this game:

- Nice win against a bad team

- Almeida was huge – no pun intended

- Gallegos, what a nice second half…man if he could just keep it up

- Talley played gutsy and was a leader.

- Benny did some nice things

- Rivers…very nice game.

- Ubel struggled with fouls again…this needs to be corrected.

- We owned the paint…nice job rebounding

- Great job handling the ball. Nicely done.

- Did I mention that Wake was a bad team.

- 5-1 and feeling pretty good.

- We need Shavon back.

- it felt really good to see big andre do some nice things out there

- RAY your infuriating at times! than your shoot that beautiful 15 footer with that springy jumper and your forgiven

- i completly agree with Talley doing to much dribbling out on the permiter

- im a big fan of parker right now. this season will have more ups than downs for him and he is a pleasant suprise.

- shields will boost this bench when he returns

- i wish we could have stolen lance jeter from two years ago and put him on this team, watching a few of parkers drives reminded me of his old plays

I remember how I felt after the WF loss last year. This was a very nice change.

Did Rey hit the rim all night? I swear every shot he made was a swish. And then the one shot I saw him miss was an air ball. His jump shot was looking great last night.

The shot that I think got him going, right at the start of the second half, hit all kinds of rim--front iron, back iron, and down. After his misses in the first half, it may have really helped him to get the shooters roll on the early second half possession. After that he was just plain unconsious.

Taped the game and stayed up late to watch. I've never been so pleased to be so wrong about a prediction. If we keep hitting on all cylinders like last night once in a while, this season will be interesting. Did anyone else note the "dead man walking" cloud hovering above coach Bzelidic? I think they'll opt for someone with a spellable name before the season ends.

We have a reasonable chance to be 10-3 coming out of the non-conference schedule. That is way better than I would have expected as I'm sure most of you can say the same. Still along ways to go but I didn't even expect us to be 5-1 at this point. I think most people (including myself) were predicting about 10 wins on the entire season and we are half way there already. So far Coach Miles and this team has exceeded my expectations.

Really did not see that coming. It was great to see this team kind of put things together for such a long stretch. I'm reluctant to revise my expectations too high, but this is a good sign. Maybe we can be competitive with the lower half of the Big Ten after all.

One illuminating comment that Coach Miles made during the post-game last night, tucked in subtley amongst other comments, was that he tried the experiment of extending the bench and it didn't work out as well as he'd hoped. I don't remember exactly what the question was that he was responding to but his meaning I thought pretty clearly was that Menke did not do an acceptable job during his 3 minutes on the floor.

Which means, until Shields returns, we've pretty much settled into a 7-man rotation. We had 4 guys play over 30 minutes, Andre played 27, Ubel fouled out after 18 minutes and Peltz played 17. And if Miles is saying trying to extend the bench turned out to be an unsuccessful experiment, seems like that can only mean one thing.

I didn't see the game on TV but listened to the radio broadcast (thanks Kent and Matt) and so I didn't get to see how individual players performed BUT ...

it did sound like we were doing a good job of disrupting their offensive flow with active and quick hands. We had 7 steals compared to only 8 turnovers on our end. And it sounded like we were knocking away a lot of passes and picking pockets. I think, from what I've seen, we have some guys who play really decent individual defense. Parker is tenacious, Peltz is tough, Talley is just determined to not lose his guy, and Ray has such great quickness. In the low blocks, Rivers is so long that he actually has the ability to affect shots and then Andre takes up space and Brandon plays within himself and doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

I think the biggest surprise for me so far this year has been our perimeter defense. Granted, we haven't played Ohio State yet or Michigan State. But these kids really get after their asses.

Norm, it was an interesting game in that from the start, one could tell we were the more talented team. However, given our recent history, we found ways to lose games like this one. Instead, with the exception of a couple three/four minute stretches, we totally outplayed Wake.

I think the Huskers were coached up post-Kent State. We were much more active on the defensive end. It really, really helps to have Andre on the floor. He simply blocks out the lane. It allows the others to take more chances on defense, hence the steals. It also helped enormously that the refs let Andre play (versus the ticky-tack fouls that Ubel is getting). Andre looks and acts like a different player when touch fouls are not being called on him.

Another point. Talley is an easy target due to his prolonged ball-handling. But it certainly appears to me that we are attempting to run the offense, and when shots do not come out of the motion, we go to a high-post pick n'roll. With mostly Dylan, and sometimes Ray handling the ball. So it looks like they are over-dribbling, but in reality they appear to be setting up the play.

I thought our spacing in the second half was the best of the season...it really, really opened things up.

Just my humble two-cents worth of observations.

Norm, you are correct. In the context of the answer Miles was giving when he made the comment about extending the bench, it was as subtle as a sledge hammer for poor Menke. Miles was talking about giving up the 3s to Fischer in the first half--at least 2 of which were over Menke.

We have to wait for Shields. I'm sure he is a great kid but watching Menke just run up and down the floor is painful. He runs like me & that ain't no compliment.

Peltz works his tail off and doesn't turn the ball over (against the competition we've played so far), but he can't guard anyone. On more than one occasion I've seen him give the two arm push on people diving around him. He knows he is slow, so he tries to compensate by staying closer to his man when they are off ball. That puts him farther from the mid-line and he never gets there for help rotations.

Wake's inability to make shots made our defense look better than it was again. It is better to be lucky than good on many occasions. The "D" is getting better but we are still too slow on rotations.

Offensively they looked good at times and other times confused. That's the fits and starts Miles is talking about. Motion takes a high basketball IQ. That's why lots of teams are going to the Read and React. It gives motion like movement but with half the thought process. There was one dribble penetration by Talley off the left wing into the elbow. Parker, Almeida, and Ubel all rotated towards the penetration. Needless to say it sort of took away all of the room for a drive. It created a huge 8 man cluster and a TO. All in all making shots makes up for a lot of mistakes. That was the fun part to watch.
