HuskerBBall Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Not saying Jacobson will end to be the same caliber of player, but I'm just saying there was recently another 6'8" 220 lb coach's son from Iowa without any big offers who turned out to be pretty good.... http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/undervalued-in-high-school-doug-mcdermott-is-now-thriving?urn=ncaab,wp6693 Let's reserve judgement please. To be fair Doug was playing second fiddle to the nations best high school player. He was overshadowed big time. If he plays on another team it's possible he stands out more and it's a different story. That is true, but it also meant that Doug had a lot more coaches watching his games. Also, the linked article states Doug only cracked the starting lineup in his Junior year due to a teammate's injury and was later moved back into the sixth man role. Quote
Swan88 Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Here is some info on Jacobson from Washut: "Jacobson picked Nebraska over other offers from Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Northern Iowa, Wyoming, UTEP, Drake, Northern Colorado, Indiana State, Fordam and Lehigh, while Stanford, Iowa, Iowa State and Vanderbilt had all been showing heavy interest in July." Jacobson also holds an Iowa St. offer as a tight end. The Ivy League offers are reflective of his 4.0 GPA. Tim Miles offered in April, while the "heavy interest" from others came "in July." Looks like a typical Tim Miles recruit: athletic, smart and under-rated. HB and NeHoops 2 Quote
Chuck Taylor Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 We're not going to get five Top 100 players. Frankly, I'd rather have some 4 year players who are from the region than some of the transfer / foreign / JUCO guys we could end up going after. This. We need top talent, sure, but we also need to fill out the roster. I'm fine with this kid. Quote
huskerbaseball13 Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Only gots one offer from a power conf school and dude nabbed it. Creighton Fan Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Only gots one offer from a power conf school and dude nabbed it.Sounds similar to your boy Patton that has only one offer period and still has a ton of work in the classroom left to get done. At least Jacobson is for sure playing D1 next year. My boy? Lol. Why so hostel? Hope he get his test score up. Like ta see good things for local boi. Will root for best for Arop too. If he dont make the test score he need, maybe he can enroll wit Pinder. Quote

Jacobson is #180 on 24/7, but all sites combined #214. and Patton is #119 on 24/7 and their composite for all sites for him is #219. So technically using all recruiting sites the composite score says they like Jacobson more. So isn't the same propz? bball23 and doc1394 2 Quote
hhcmatt Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Like I stated the first time I around I think he is this years David Wacker. Don't we have like 5 spots open next year? Why do people assume we can't still get some of the other guys? Unless my math is just GOD awful I still think we have 4 openings left. Probably not a program changer but I do like we pulled a guy out of Iowa. He does seem like a tall dude with an outside shot that we can bulk up to have some inside defensive presence which should fit our system. Hopefully we're seeing where he projects before others do and quite frankly with the way we've been filling scholarships the last couple of years we need a little bit of that as opposed to fighting for this same guy 6 months from now. Cool. Let's add some more dudes. jdostal 1 Quote

jdostal Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 #214 in the nation is the type of player we've been fighting for at the end of the recruiting cycle. It's just earlier on so it feels different because we're less desperate. This is a solid commit for us. http://247sports.com/Player/Michael-Jacobson-59856I know people ended up having different opinions on Atewe, but most people would've been happy to take him and he was #301 in the nation. http://247sports.com/Player/Matthew-Atewe-25427?Institution=2644. dit: Hammond ended up as the #191 player in the nation per 247 composite. When scout and rivals update in a couple weeks composite score gonna change. He gonna be in the rivals 150 and scout top 100. Thats legit. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Every, and I mean every team, needs stars AND glue guys. This kid has smarts, he can shoot, he likely is fundamentally sound, he has some size...and at the very least can be a valuable teammate/player. As a "fan" it can be easy to look at the negatives (which many Nebraskans do) but why not look at what this kid can bring to the table instead of your perception of what he cannot. I will trust this coaching staff at this point. We are still building the program here. As much as I would like to grab any 5 star that I wish to grab, that simply isn't occurring right now. Once we have proven ourselves, then we will grab NBA ready players. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
lanigan123 Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 You are out of your mind if you think he is top 150. By the end of the year I doubt he is a top 150 kid. The Creighton offer helped as much as any summer league play. Quote

By definition they play the same position but they are nothing alike. Jacobson is a 6-7th man, stretch the floor guy similar to what Matt Bonner does for San Antonio. I am sure the coaches have communicated everything thoroughly with morrow. Plenty of schools sign multiple players at the same position each year so that wouldn't be a first by any means. The coaches are pressing hard for Morrow and that showed by having at least one coach at every game in Vegas. He's the main priority of this class. ShortDust, jdostal, NeHoops and 1 other 4 Quote

I bet Morrow is worried about beating out Jacobson for minutes. If there was any chance that this decreased the odds of landing Morrow ten his offer wouldn't have been a commitable one.
