8 and 8 is just not good enough.

Will we ever be above .500 again?

I won't be so hyperbolic to say that our season is over but I think it is safe to say that this is another rebuilding year.

Since most players are coming back next year hopefully they can learn to play together so we can take a step forward.

You know what Nebrasketball fans always say,

There is always next year.

Think most understood that this year.

Think most understood that this year.

Not according to the preseason predictions. :P. and not what I had hoped.

And I certainly hoped we could have gotten 1 to 3 more wins so far. At this point in our development 2 wins is the difference between nit and disappointing season.

For many, preseason guesses are based upon optimism rather than realism.  I certainly wanted a better record than where we currently sit, yet it does not surprise me.  We are young, we have a ton of new players and we are in a tough, tough league.

According to Statsheet.com, we are only the 5th least experienced team in the league. Michigan and Purdue are both younger than we are, and we lost to both. I'm getting close to being done with the "inexperienced" card. Gallegos is nearly done, Biggs and Smith have 1.5 seasons left, Petteway has played an entire season and now a half. It's college basketball, young teams can win (Xavier is younger than us and doing WAY better than last year). It's not like we have 6 freshmen playing that we can look ahead and say we're going to be awesome in 3 years when they are seniors. We need to ramp up our recruiting before I will actually start to get excited. No offense to Hammonds, but so far I'm not too thrilled about our recruiting. Webster is a nice player and Smith was a good pickup, but every Big Ten team has good freshmen who play.

What predictions!? We were picked at the bottom. It is year two and we didnt have a big man. We are more athletic an can score better than we have in years but also very young and don't have any size. It is being exploited in big ten play. I think I the team can stay positive they will improve this year and maybe pull a couple shockers. Execution in crucial moments late in games have been poor. Some on youth, some on coaching etc. remember tim is figuring this team out as well. When at cau he had some teams he new very well because they had been together for years. Give it time we will get there. Losing just sucks we all hate it and we are tired of it. Best thing we can do is support coach and get our butts in seats to show recruits they will play in front of a packed house every night

One of the most telling stats for this team is their ranking in assist percentage (which is the amount of field goals made credited with an assist) Nebraska is ranked 330th in the country at 43 percent.

Partly due to a lot of individuals, mostly due to terrible shooting. Our shooting percentages this year are not good, to no one's surprise.

This is what I'm worried about too. I'm sure Hammond will help with depth but he's likely not going to be the guy who pushes this program over the edge.

We aren't even on the radar with any 2014 kids who have any hype around them. Sounds like next year is just going to be another rebuilding year, I'm afraid.

I would give my left nut to be wrong, though

If next year is a rebuilding year then the next year after that is going to be a rebuilding year. Then the next year after that. And so on and so on....at this point in the recruiting game it's not likely we will find a difference maker. Thus, let's hope this staff starts to do a better job of getting its players to "buy in."

If you were reading or making preseason predictions that didn't predict this would be a building year, you weren't reading the right predictions.

Our season is a LONG way from being over in the sense that the more this team can improve as a TEAM the more we're going to come out firing next year.  As a team we have a group of guys capable of beating more talented players.

Then when will we not be rebuilding? Biggs and Smith will both be seniors next year and probably starters. When they are gone, we will have big shoes to fill, especially for Smith.

So in 2015-16, we'll be replacing 2 starters (and 2 of our better players at that). Hammond will be a sophomore with limited PT experience and Pinder will be a raw project freshman in 2015-16, and will probably redshirt to put on weight. Petteway, Pitchford and Shields will be seniors, Webster a junior, Hawkins a junior (if he's here) and Fuller a RS So. That's 8 players right there with no stronger post presence than we have this season. 15-16 is the year we absolutely need to get it done, because we will graduate a lot of experience and will then be calling 16-17 a rebuilding year too.

All of this can be solved by landing some players and the sooner they can get in the program the better. I really hope we aren't waiting on a certain 2-3 scholarships to time out after 4 years for guys who don't play or aren't real contributors.

That's college sports for ya.  It's a perpetual cycle. You can get really depressed if you try and figure things out three years in advance.  Personally, I see this years sophomore class is going to do some big things over the next couple of years.

One of the reasons we are so low in assists is our low shooting percentage and the incredible number of layups, stuffs or one foot shots we miss game after game. In fact, I would be surprised if Shields hasn't missed over 30 of said blank shots this season with about a fourth of them being blocked because he goes to the basket laterally instead of vertically. This cannot be blamed on his ankle because it was happening before the injury and it doesn't matter which leg he jumps off of because either way he misses or gets stuffed more often then he makes them. Webster doesn't hit layups either but is getting a little better.

You guys have made me depressed for the future.

I think next year is the year we have to take a huge step forward and at worst make the NIT but hopefully make the playoffs.

Recruiting hasn't really been what I had hoped either.

I feel that recruiting is going better than I expected. We have been getting official visits by some of the top recruits in the country. Something we haven't done for quite awhile. We only had 2 scholarships to give this year. We have a Rivals top 150 recruit who has signed in an area of need. The next step is to get the better players to sign.

We haven't had any splashy visits in a while right?

Have we had official visits?  No... but are we in on guys that none of us board posters know about?  Most likely.  Us posters do not know what all goes on behind what we see and hear through the media.

What do you consider a while?  We had a handful visit during the fall. Most everyone is in season right now, though.

I don't know?  Didn't we get have Jabari Parker visit?  I feel like since that and Webster we haven't really had any splashy visits or commits outside of Jacob.

Not sure about Parker. A big deal was made about Robinson visiting this fall.  There were a couple others, I thought.

93.7 guys were talking about how we got Parker to visit.  94 % we didn't.  We got Okafor to who was from the same school as Parker, but I don't think Parker ever stepped foot on campus.

Can anyone clarify?
