Tim Miles' patience in his search for a Nebraska men's basketball assistant coach has paid off.

Kenya Hunter, the longest-tenured member of John Thompson III's staff at Georgetown, is joining Nebraska's staff.

Miles announced the hire on Monday, two months after Ben Johnson left Nebraska for Minnesota.

Hunter has spent the last six seasons at Georgetown. There, he played a major role in the recruitment of 11 players who were ranked among the Top 100 nationally by either ESPN.com or Rivals.com.

He helped development four NBA players at Georgetown, including Roy Hibbert and Greg Monroe, and will likely have a third NBA first-round pick this month, when Big East player of the year Otto Porter will likely go among the top five picks.

Hunter was also an assistant coach at Xavier, and was on staff at NC State as director of operations. Since the 2001-02 season, he's been a part of 10 NCAA Tournament appearances at three schools.

Miles said today that Hunter will help expand Nebraska's recruiting horizons.

From the Rivals article (FREE):

What makes Hunter the most valuable to Nebraska is his recruiting connections

The hiring comes just in time for the Huskers as well. In less than a month, the second round of NCAA basketball recruiting evaluation periods will get underway in July, and it was crucial for Miles to have a complete staff in place before hitting the road. Hunter's East Coast recruiting connections should open up some important doors, especially when Rutgers and Maryland join the Big Ten Conference in 2014.

It could be nothing, but it seems pretty convenient that Nebraska/Miles announced this on the same day that 3 high profile recruits are visiting campus...Maybe to stir up some more excitement around the program while they are here?  Could be nothing, but I feel like Miles has a reason and a plan for everything that he does/says...

We now of a footprint on the East Coast and a guy with street cred for developing bigs.

He's a guy that will slot into a head coach in the next 3-4 years but it's safe to say with our money available for assistants, our new facilities, and our conference that turning up new assistants like this will be the new standard.

Georgetown apparently hired Hunter's replacement last week:

(I don't know what that means, just thought it was interesting)

Honestly, get off HB.  You are trying to point out a negative of this great hire and are constantly negative repping posters if they say something bad about Creighton.    Go back to Bluejay underground or Perrault's basement.
