Not sure what's going on in Mark Cuban's mind, either.

Give Brittney Griner the opportunity to prove she could play in the NBA?  Really?  Really?

Six-foot-eight-inch Brittney Griner dunks 3 times in one game.

Six-foot-two-inch 8th grader Jamar Ergas dunks a bunch.

She's one of the best women's college basketball players of all time, but let's not kid ourselves.  Pleaase tell me Mark Cuban isn't really that stupid.

Well who even asked him such a question?  Because his answer was  that he'd been thinking about it already.

Her video as a senior in college is less impressive than Brandon Ubel's was coming out of high school.

And then Brittney Griner tweeted in response that she'd welcome the chance and thinks she could hang.

Actually, I'd love to see it.  I'd want them to televise it.  I remember a few years ago when Craig Kilborn had a TV show and Rebecca Lobo was being talked about as maybe the best women's college player ever.  Craig played college ball at Montana State and was about Rebecca's height and challenged her to one-on-one and, well, it wasn't a contest.  That's putting it nicely.  He made her look silly.  And Craig never sniffed the NBA.

I guess my point is that I wish people could just celebrate Brittney Griner for what she is -- one of the best women's college centers ever -- and not try to make her something she isn't.  Not try to bridge some imaginary gender gap or something.

I know it is 100% different than basketball, but just to stoke the discussion...

It's not just 100% different from basketball, it's 100% different from this situation on an entirely different level.  Bobby Riggs was well past his playing days when this match went down.  That won't be the case with Griner and the NBA fellas.  She'd be playing with/against dudes in the prime of their playing abilities.  She'll get stomped if she does it.

I want to see it just to prove the difference so we don't have to hear that she could play in the NBA.  If the Lousiville girls were "too physical" for her....can you imagine Dwight Howard, etc....It would be BRUTAL!!!  But good theatre.

People like to compare things that will never happen and deep down they know (or should know) aren't equal comparisons. Like the best college football team can beat the worst NFL team. Not a change in hell.

One telling stat I heard on the radio this morning. I have not confirmed this because as I've said before, I'm lazy. I heard Steve Nash outweighs her. I don't think it's by much but he's a point guard

Five against three?  Really?  That's your comparison?

And have you seen Pitino's results coaching against NBA players/teams?

Heh,

Well those three on the Bobcats are the only ones I easily recognized...man they got a lotta nobodies on their roster.  Of course that's probably more due to the fact that I pay far more attention to college hoops than the NBA anyway.

And Pitino's results coaching against the NBA aren't any worse than Dunlap's.  :D

theres a reason D-1 womens basketball teams recruit college students that played high school basketball to play them in practice.  Because guys that cant even play college ball are better competition for the college women and the men are told to take it easy on them and still win.  Nature vs. Nuture, Nature always win.

Too true.  I'm all about breaking barriers and what not, but this is a ridiculous idea.  If Cubez likes the idea so much maybe he should spend a draft pick on her.

I call BS on this statement.  The men's practice team for the Husker women are all 6'0" to 6'5" and they are picked for their basketball skills.  They all  played hoops at a high level in high school and they cannot keep up with the women's first team.  In fact Lindsey Moore likes to go to the rec center early in the school yeaar before they know who she is  and school the boys.  Now Griner is not NBA good, but D-1 women hoops players are a hell of a lot better than you think they are.

I think if a women makes an NBA team it will first need to be at the 1 or 2.

The play of inside game in the NBA is too physical at this time.

But if you can handle and dish or hit the open spot up jumper then maybe.

My life time isn't most likely as long as others but maybe in Shane's life time it will be true.

What is he 35?  If he lives another 40-45 years, maybe.

Things have changed then.  When I was in school, they just selected a frat and that frat dominated.
