Don't know about the rest of you, but this is probably the most painful NCAA tourney to watch that we didn't play in.

By the end of the day, it appears very likely that 4 teams we beat during the regular season will advance to the round of 32.

And three more teams that were one-score losses also look to advance.

Damn, this one hurts.

We were 4-7 against teams in the field of 32. Of those 7 losses, 4 of them went down to the final minute and could have gone either way. And then a couple were blowouts.

That's basically the story of our season right there.

-B1G came to play! Top to bottom, a really tough league this year. Maybe not quite as high as the SEC, but not as far behind as some might think.

- Speaking of… the SEC wasn’t this almighty power that some thought. Don’t get me wrong, still a great conference, but the bottom of the conference was exposed. 6-12 conference records aren’t dance worthy!? Who would of thunk it.

- The ACC was A$$ outside of Duke. North Carolina still has just 1 Q1 win. Their win over SDSU doesn’t impress me that much. Those teams were pitiful this tournament.

- The MW always gets so much love and then proceeds to show how average they are. New Mexico with the biggest win, I don’t think Memphis was a 5 seed. Wouldn’t shock me to see both CSU and NM lose.

What are you talking about?? ESPN is about to build the storyline that the SEC has the most wins in the tournament this year! (probably) 😄

But NIL/your payroll is the only thing that matters? Surely Texas Tech doesn't outspend us. And Lubbock is horrible.

Texas Tech's NIL operation is pretty damn good from what I've been told. JT Toppin and Elijah Hawkins didn't just end up there by accident.

They ponied up big time for football this offseason a well.

Envious of the Purdue basketball program. I don't think any of their players are transfers and they'll pretty much all be back next year, including their two all-americans. There are dozens of division 1 prospects that come out of Indiana each year. Almost seems like Painter purposefully goes after the ones who are great college prospects, but not future NBA players, and lets the players who have one-and-done aspirations go elsewhere.

I know @basketballjones has been pushing their viewpoint of coaching. And in most context it's been related to better performance on the court. But there's also just some of those prominent coaches out there who can maintain and develop a roster for consecutive years. That's becoming a harder and harder trait to come by these days.

Purdue may never be great but they are consistently very good.  It goes back to the days of Rick Mount.

They did make it to the national championship game last year. That's pretty great. But they did see a drop-off in talent this year.

(They also lost to Fairleigh Dickinson...)

I would like to have a drop off in talent and still finish in the top six in the conference with the sweet 16 bid

For. Sure.

(And that's why we're not categorized as "great".)

Purdue knows exactly how they want to construct a roster and they're good at identifying guys that will work for them. Braden Smith's was a 3 star with offers from North Texas, Toledo, Belmont, etc when Purdue offered and signed him. There are several stories about how Purdue will go see a high rated guy but then they'll see some guy who hasn't broken out that they'll land.

Lots of teams out there spending more money than us not to make the tournament. Our roster construction from last year really points more towards not understanding how to build a team that Fred Hoiberg can successfully coach almost as much as lack of money might be an issue. I think the unfortunate reality is that unless the roster is constructed in a particular way, Fred will struggle.

I'm not sure Creighton had a better situation than what they have now. They earned their way to this game, but Auburn is a very weak #1 overall team. They started playing every poorly once March hit. I believe they were 2-3 in March prior to the Dance, and failed to make their conference title game. Creighton had them in a good spot in the first half, but gave them too much of a leash to really let their speed and intensity come through. If Auburn pulls this one out, Michigan also has a decent shot at knocking this team out.
