Could be tampering. I’ve heard the new Indiana coach has had a lot of contact with him prior to him entering the portal. Maybe even slept with his mom.

Dad admitted he was talking to Indiana as WV season was ongoing . Some mountaineers feel the kid faked an injury to get a fifth year. Tampering might be the right word

Hard to fake given he had surgery.  I guess they could put him out fix a hang nail...

I had thought I read that, but then couldn’t find a tweet… so thanks for confirming I wasn’t crazy.

The timing is suspicious. Tucker DeVries was done for the season on Febr. 4th. And on Febr. 7th, Mike Woodson proclaimed he would leave so Indiana needed a new coach going forward. That is the interloping time in which this issue of 'tampering' seemed to happen, apparently.

He also had the same injury last year. Was injured last January and waited until the season was over to have the procedure. Pretty common for certain injuries. Not a fake injury, but seems very possible they chose to medical redshirt him once they knew dad would be taking the Indiana job. They’re going to be villains in West Virginia for awhile.

Just reiterating what some have probably already said:

The lesson from last year is line up your dudes early. Maybe out-bid guys at the front end of the portal because the price goes up with increased scarcity at the end.

It's like how it used to be before NIL when guys who were still available in the spring who had no business going to blue blood programs were being snatched up by those teams to fill their last available roster spots.

Big money early gets better players than big money late. That's the lesson.
