Indiana just gained a quasi-fan. I think Devries is as good as it gets out there. He is a true basketball coach. I wish he and Indiana nothing but success (except against us).

Indiana just got better really fast.  Great hire by them.

Honestly, many of us thought the same thing when Fred was hired.  We hope year seven brings us that first tournament win.

Don't get me wrong, that is a great hire; but they have to overcome Purdue, in their own State, as well as a tough Big Ten schedule.   I guess Dusty did it at Michigan, so hey, who knows.

There will never be a question of if Indiana is playing hard and bought in under him.

FWIW, DD had the Husker scout almost every year and found ways to make it super personal each time.

Note to self: Do not bring up the fact that Indiana hasn't beaten Nebraska since 2022 in my next writeup

Likely true. But sometimes the things that work with 3 star players who have a chip on their shoulder, don’t work with the kind of talent Indiana brings in. If he can walk that tight rope they’ll be back to a top tier program. If not they may resemble this year’s Rutgers team. Or this year’s Indiana team for that matter.

Unfortunately unlike Woodson I don't think DeVries is going to try and construct a roster to be successful in the 90s

Texas has a job opening and, like they have in the past, they should look to hire the coach at Texas Tech.

No! Lubbock will really have an identity crisis.  But the way coaches move we shouldn’t be upset by player transfers.

One of the recent lessons is good coaches who're given second chances often take full advantage of the opportunity.

Chris Beard was supposedly radioactive after his domestic issue that got him fired from Texas. Ol' Miss is a 6-seed.

Rick Pitino was embroiled in recruiting and other scandals when he was fired from Louisville. St John's is a 2-seed and beat UNO by 30.

Kelvin Sampson received a 5-year show-cause penalty when he was dismissed from Indiana. Houston is a 1-seed.

Know who else owns a 1-seed? Bruce Pearl and his Auburn Tigers. Pearl was given a 3-year show-cause when he left Tennessee.

You can look down on those coaches and think you wouldn't want to get your hands dirty by having the program you cheer for hire one of those guys. But, y'know, they're winning, so ...

Yep, I get it but no thanks.  Put me in the camp that doesn't want to get their hands dirty.  There are plenty of successful, high character coaches out there to lead programs.  No need to sell our soul.

I would have hired Will Wade in a second. Time heals all.

Me thinking it would be fine to make this post

Deconstructing the Scene: Raiders of the Lost Ark

This thread after it devolves into "what character flaws are a bridge too far to replace our coach who cannot be fired for season(s) because we guaranteed his contact in full"

All these big name coaches probably wouldn’t give Nebraska a 2nd look.  What might have happened if Bob Devaney hired Bob Huggins instead of Danny Née?  Coaches are better with talent.  If Nebraska cares enough we need to help Fred get better players, whatever the cost.

Most if the times it’s the coaches who identify, recruit and develop the talent.

Sure in a quaint throwback to yesteryear. "Recruit" nearly means "pay" now. Or at the very least it's the fourth part of the equation. And I bet whatever that currently equals at Nebraska is not enough to lure a coach to identify, recruit, and develop talent here that we would consider an upgrade to Fred.

I think it’s fair to say our NIL needs to get better.   But if we have enough to give Berke and Meah over a million last year, NIL is secondary to decision making in terms of issues
