How about Omaha Biliew?

He can't be happy at ISU. Getting no playing time. And I believe he visited here and had some interest for awhile.

Iowa St is good and you have to defend to play there.

Watching the Colorado game. True freshman Bangot Dak out of Lincoln Southeast is really impressing. Still learning the game and needs to gain weight/strength. But 6’11”, long, really athletic and really active. He’s all over the court defensively and protecting the rim. Swatted a shot into the fifth row. Offensively, is under control and makes the right pass. Had a nice dunk. Looks like he’s gonna be a very good college player before too long.

He got an offer from Colorado a month before we offered Matar Diop.

While he was still at sunrise. He was supposed to be a 2023 guy, but bumped 2024 class after he decided to take a prep year at Sunrise, probably under advisement of multiple schools. Colorado swooped in with an offer last minute, and the rest wrote itself.

I’ll take a William Kyle from SDSU and Saint Thomas if Gary or Williams moves on

You pointed Kyle here and after that I've been following his play this year. SUPER athletic big who can slide between the 4 and 5. Has a defensive player of the year notch under his belt too.

Wonder if he and a couple of his high school teammates would be interested in getting the band back together in PBA next year...

old friend is on the move again. He may get a lower level p5 look, but he may just end up at a higher mid major

Man, seems like a blast from the past.  Unfortunately he was on a team that is in the conversation for worst D-1 bball team this season (NET 359/362, lost in the first round of their conference tourney by ~60 points).

I realize there is a recruiting forum here AND I realize there's a little exciting news going on with the program this week BUT since this isn't about a particular recruit I thought I'd post it here.

How do we think coaches handle the transfer portal opening today? Are they so focused on A&M that they neglect it until after season? Is it unethical to recruit while a season is still going? Would it be a distraction to team if they knew about it?

My guess is this Friday game allows us a bit more time to contact 6-10 guys and say something like, "Hey, we have a lot of season left and aren't making offers yet - but we are very excited about you and have been following you and look forward to contacting you after our tournament run. Hopefully you get a chance to watch us and let us know what you think, and that we can talk further soon."

Is that how it goes - or do we just neglect it for a week or two?

Obviously, a LARRGEEE majority of players that will transfer are still playing, too, and not even in the portal yet.

Thoughts?

We have like 5 guys who could grad transfer/go pro so depends on what we feel is going on there.

We have one known scholarship available right now, two if you count players who have never played a minute here in two years and have deactivated their social media accounts...again.

We have guys that aren't assistant coaches who coordinate recruiting.  If they don't already have a list of guys we're going to contact, we aren't doing it right.  It's certainly important, as this graphic would indicate

Ok...I have been missing those posts and I honestly don't follow any of their Twitter stuff as I have enough to follow with my friends...outside of the Srs who else are we probably going to lose?  Are we going to have a full rebuild next year? I get going to the portal, but I'm more interested in who we are predicting to lose out of everyone not graduating.

Perhaps our 1st goal is to re-recruit the players on our own roster that we want to remain.  We will also want to stay in contact with the current signees.  We will also have discussions with the player(s) that we may help exit, stage right.

I am quite sure all of the above takes place daily.

My take is that we are no longer a program that will simply replace a body with a body.  The player or players that come on board will be talented; but perhaps more importantly, will be a cultural fit and will fill a role.  Our background staff will likely look at portal players and vet them before turning them over to the coaches for final analysis and recruitment.

I wonder how many portal players contact us first rather than vice-versa?

Tough call.  Due to the free agency type of atmosphere in college basketball, any player could choose to leave, and many do.  On top of that, our staff may help a player or two with that decision by telling them that playing time will likely not come their way.

This right here! While this team was always better than the sum of it's parts, our game against Illinois clearly showed that we need to upgrade some of those parts.

I think at a minimum we are going to take 3 from the TP.

As mentioned there are several guys on this team that we need to re-recruit.

Would be surprised if this didn't return:

Mast

Gary

Williams

Lawrence (he has really elevated his game and will play a significant role next season)

Hoiberg (Not on scholarship, but still worth mentioning)

Probably need to re-recruit if we want to keep them.

Jacobson

Diop

Rice

High chance of leaving:

Wilcher

Ulis is a big question mark. His legal issues need to be resolved.

Potential transfers:

Keita

Lloyd

In-coming freshman:

JANKOWSKI

FRAGER

Hoiberg has sure talked all along like Ulis will be at least one of our point guards next year

I hope he is. A full-year of learning the Hoiberg system & prior B1G years at a black-and-yellow school to our immediate east, it's certainly a welcome sight to see "PG" next to a guy's profile on huskers.com . . . let's keep him, yes, for sure.
