I dunno…did he really leave us at the alter?  We slow played the shit out of him if I remember everything correctly. Harrison Phillips style (sorry for going football here) He came here on his own when he was a nobody in the national scene.  I believe Matt A finally offered.  Probably because he got his 4th star.

It’d be like an unattractive girl throwing herself at you and you don’t give her the time of day, and then she blossoms into an hottie and you get mad she goes off with someone else.

We did offer him a whole year before Notre Dame did. He took at least three visits to Nebraska and said all along we were recruiting him as hard as anyone else was.

Imma have to dig back. I kinda remember this and kept asking why we hadn't offered him yet.

Ughhhhh.

Phone rings...

Fred answers...Hello

Hey Coach, this is Parker...long silence...

You know, Parker Friedrichsen...you were recruiting me.

Fred - oh yeah, you left us standing at the alter...twice.

Parker - yeah, about that...sorry.  Sooo, is your offer still available???  If so...

Fred - long silence - click.

Well, If the shoe fits.....

We recruited him pretty hard after that initial visit he set up on his own. It was not a Harrison Phillips deal.

The most recent recruitments of Parker by Nebrasketball have been like the guy who proposes on the jumbotron at a sporting event--and she says, "No." Twice!

Plus . . . Parker said, "Yes," to two other suitors, only to leave them at the alter.

So, the best advice for future Parker suitors is this: "caveat secutor" (i.e., suitor beware).

PF isn't going to Notre Dame because Mike Brey won't be there next year.

Wake Forest is all over him right now,

If PF is going to Wake Forest, I'd assume that Forbes' people floating this sort of stuff out there means we'd get another swing

I'd say the big thing that's changed at Nebraska since the last time we were in the running for PF is that Fred is going to be here next year. GBR.

Also factoring into all of this is that the transfer portal will soon open. Friedrichsen isn't worried about whether or not he can play at a high level, but he does understand that many coaches may prefer older players so his early plan is to move things along quicker while the opportunities are out there.

I would think this would help our cause: We can guarantee him a spot, while a lot of other programs are waiting to see what opens up in the portal.

He says he wants to have this done before the portal opens.

Can Hoiberg use Keisei's success this year as a selling point to Friedrichsen?  Keisei has had free rein to shoot whenever open this year, and is getting a lot of national publicity from it.  One would think this would be appealing to PF.

And Walker's success should appeal to Traudt.

No disrespect to Parker, but is this a small-class in OK?  The quality of the opponent looks like a below-average team for my son's middle school league in Omaha (OPS).

That particular opponent only had 52 to P5's 51. I think that Bixby's class 6A in Oklahoma. Bixby is a suburb of Tulsa.

There's an 8 man player in Ainsworth that just got an offer from Nick Saban. This is a tough venue to challenge the talent of smaller class athletes.  My prayers are with you having a child in OPS.  🙂

I'm not saying there aren't outliers, but there's a reason C-1 doesn't compete against A. And OPS has been great for my kids, despite the fearmongering people like to perpetuate. My daughter recently scored in the 97th percentile on her PSATs and gets mail from elite colleges almost daily ever since.

Not trying to dump on your daughter' accomplishments. I'm sure she deserves the interest and attention. But be forewarned: These "elite" schools advertise their rejection rate. In order to have a high rejection rate, they have to have a lot of applicants. It's their business model to reach out, get you to spend $300 on an application, only to reject you so that they can maintain their ~95% rejection rate.

It's a racket, really. Ought to be illegal.

This is totally unsurprising, by the way. He had so many opportunities to commit to Nebraska that, if he was going to do it, he could have and would have done it long ago.

I'm officially moving him to the "I really don't care about this kid" category. Not wishing him ill. Just not wishing him anything at all.

Parker who?

OK, well, congrats to the next coach at Wichita St for landing this bounce-around commit.

To be fair, Mike Brey told P5 he'd be at Notre Dame for 7 more years. It's been a long, winding journey; who knows how it pans out, may even come back around... you know how it is.
