Here's the deal: had we known about Eduardo Andre and been discussing him for three months (or a couple years) already, we'd have been to the "early draft entry" stage long before now.  And had Hoiberg & Co. been openly battling the likes of Illinois, A&M and Northwestern, we'd be breathless with our victory over Power 5 suitors.

Remember when names first came up like Whitt and Sanogo?   We were all doubters at the beginning . . . and then we watched old videos and saw other schools competing for their services . . . and we ultimately came to see them as great prospects.  That didn't happen here.  

So, we are just now coming to understand this player and what he will bring to the Vault.

Frankly, I'm excited by the potential: (i) his hands are a huge upgrade (compare, e.g., Morrow, Jordy, and even Yvan), (ii) his mobility is a rarity at the five, (iii) he can elevate quickly, once the ball is in his hands, (iv) he is new to the game but has a solid foundation for it.

Can't wait for practices and the season to start!    

P.S.  Hoiberg & Co. excel at the short-time recruiting process, and they seem to prefer it over a long process.  Sanogo and Andre are Exhibits A & B on why that is.

6'10" and 220lbs is the same measurements Brandon Ubel had as a freshman. I wouldn't hate having a player like Ubes on the team.

If things got out, they were worried other teams would negative recruit or try to jump in late? All of the above?

 

I guess I don’t follow regarding Sanogo. He was a pretty big recruit so it’s not like we can keep him under the radar.

 He had insinuated after Sanogo that things in the local media didn’t help their standing with him. 
 

 My guess is that if HOL, OWH, or the LJS Got  stuff out about going after Andre that similar actions could have derailed that for them this time around.

I should have just read the Sanogo thread first. I’m caught up now. The timing of Heady’s article was not ideal, and who knows what a 17-year-old uses to make important life choices. Sounds like he was a Seton Hall commit regardless.

No, there are no quarters in men's college hoops. . . there is in the women's game.

My recollection was that, in addition to the 7 ft wingspan, he also has a 40 inch vertical.

Yeah I remember reading that.  Certainly hope it's accurate.  The vertical jump can be manipulated pretty easily, but I'll concede with the evidence rather than my eyes. A true 40 inch vert at 6'6" would put his eyes right at the rim when he's dunking, fwiw, and that's with a one step takeoff.  It's an enormous vertical leap.
