uneblinstu Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) In the pregame thread, I said I felt good about tonight's game. This live diary of a thread will bear the tale of whether or not my intuitions were proven right. Wildcat 3's: 6 BTN App crashes: 3 First half streaming thoughts: - Alright, let's see if the home town kids of Watson and Roby can bring things home tonight. Tip-off (I'm streaming online, so a little behind...) is now! - Roby took the jump, huh? - Vic Law shut down Watson the first time, let's see how he fares this one. - Northwestern pumping and driving off the 3 point line. Let's see how much that opens things up as the game goes along. - Beautiful cut by Webster right down the lane. - That lob to Law...smh...Thought Law pushed off, but whateves... (looks like Miles did, too.) - Northwestern is ACTIVE on offense. - First media timeout. Huskers really struggling to find any sort of rhythm on offense. - I like that NU went big when Lumpkin went out...but you can't commit a moving screen on your first possession in the game. - Glynn went crashing to the ground on that steal. I'm sure Macintosh didn't get a lot of body on that contest. - Tai probably should have gotten one, too... - Defense really picked up this segment and suddenly NU has the lead. - Couple coachable moments for Jordy. - Had a couple wild attempts at the rim. Trying a little to hard. Settle down, fellas. - Brown just beat the Huskers down the court. That's happened a couple times now. - Jacobson's kind of an enigma. He can't hit behind 3, that little jump hook rarely goes down but he's money from 15-18'. I don't get it. - Bit of a quick trigger from McVeigh. - Thought McVeigh's played solid defensively so far. - Jordy will learn how to avoid those cheap fouls. He picks 'em up pretty easily right now, though. - Northwestern not shooting it as well as they did in Lincoln. We haven't been able to take advantage as of yet. We'll see how much that costs us later in the game. - Really unlucky on that Pardon dunk. Fuller played great defense. Just nicked the rim and skipped over Jacobson who should have had an easy board. - Brown with a couple big 3's. Those were killer. - Nice answer with the McVeigh out of the time out, too. - That was a strange decision on that shot clock review. - And a really ugly couple of shots to finish the half. - Kind of a rough finish to the half here for the refs. Not sure I've ever seen teams brought back to the floor after heading to the locker room. This is all very strange. Halftime thoughts: - Really Feels like something of a missed opportunity and really good fortune. NU couldn't get anything going offensively, largely because NW is a bad much up for us with their length. But the Wildcats shot it pretty poorly, too, so IDK. - Foul trouble by Jordy, couple cheapies, really hurt, I think. And Roby's two, too. Hopefully we see a lot more of both of them in the second half. - I find it odd how much Fuller played without seeing Horne. Wonder if he's in the doghouse. - If Pardon only played the Huskers, he'd be an All-American. 2nd Half: - Does screaming at your team to "settle down" actually settle a team down? - Really like the intensity the Huskers have come out with in the 2nd half. - Killer turnover by Tai leading to the Macintosh 3. Just killer. - NW has a screamer. There's always a screamer in every crowd. - Love the little hook from Jordy. I still hate that charge call in college basketball, though. Such a cheap call, especially when it's a situation like that where the offensive player is so much bigger than the defender. - Interesting they let Jordy play with 3 but not Roby. - When Jordy finishes that shot at the rim, he's gonna be a monster. - How many free throws missed is that now, 4? 5/9 ain't good enough. - Great defensive possession to get the shot clock violation. Then the app crashed, so I didn't see what happened after that. Came back on the Jacobson tip in. - Tai is just a stud. - What an answer after the Lindsey 3 by Webster. - They really called a foul on that rebound scrum? Seriously? - Jacobson's really struggling trying to man the 5 offensively. - We're close to drought territory... - Liked the fire from Fuller there. Need some offense out of the break. - We just have no answer for Pardon. - Need to find a way to go on a bit of a run here. - That's a start on that purty little layup from Watson! - Don't mean to pick on the kid, but Watson sure does seem to fall down a lot. - That turnover by Taylor that led to the lob might have been the dagger. - And there's the first Miles technical foul of the year. I think he had a case, but how he plead it was what cost him. Just a killer stretch. - And when you're trying to stage a comeback, ya gotta hit those FT's Mike. - McVeigh's had a couple great looks that I thought were going in that just hit the front of the rim. - It's slipping away. 15-1 run down the stretch. Had it down to, what, 4? Disappointing way to end this one. It was right there for the taking all night. - This team needs something good to happen to stem the tide. There's a lot of snowballing happening right now. I think there's still a lot of fight in this team, they're just coming up a little short, which is really frustrating, because they're better than they've shown the past couple of weeks. TourneyBound Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) Can we play Jordy some more??? I mean Jacobson is like an offensive liability out there... good grief. Every time Jacobson gets ball in paint he can't score it!! Jordy has been solid on both ends in my opinion. Might foul a bit much but he plays hard. Guess I'm just frustrated by Jacobson. And I see he was -11 that half Edited January 27, 2017 by ConkintheCorner Quote
HF_ Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Calling Jacobson money from 15-18 would be like calling shaq clutch at the free throw line. Jacobson is awful at every shot you can shoot on a basketball court at this point in time. fred1212 1 Quote
atskooc Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 I'm not sure we have anyone who plays harder than Jake. So playing Jordy for Jake because Jordy plays hard doesn't make much sense. BjoeHusker and Bugeaters1 2 Quote

huskerbaseball13 Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 We have now had a 5 game losing streak or more every year under Tim Miles. Quote
hskr4life Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 It might be a long rest of the year. We sounded defeated... not playing with the same intensity. Quote

We played with intensity, and I think this was one of our better defensive effort. We have to find a way to replace Morrow. Maybe go small. Maybe play Mike and Jordy at the same time. And, for the love of God play Horne. aphilso1 and TourneyBound 2 Quote
colhusker Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Watching yet another game where we miss wide open shot after wide open shot, it might be time to think differently on what we want to do offensively and recruiting wise. We are not going to get over the hump with one guy taking 1/3 of your shots unless he hits at a better rate than the guy doing it for us now. Again we have a guy scoring a lot of points but it's based in large on the number of shots taken. Defensively we get beat far to often. Mo might need to change the scheme. Might be time to go back to basics (i.e., boxing out, making FTs) Tonight was just ugly Quote
a0t0w0 Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Again, I have to bring up the long con? Nu vs unl vs whatever we were being good citizens tonight. Their run is cute and beating them would be like pissing on children's Christmas presents. We will win the tourney. Do you honestly see a team that stops us in that situation? Exactly. 49r 1 Quote

Understanding we are thin on depth and have limited options with Morrow out but I also don't understand at all why we can't play Jake and Jordy at the same time...especially when we are getting killed on the glass. It'd let Jake move back to the 4, where he's more comfortable. Some of our PT decisions are just stupid. Quote

a0t0w0 Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) 2016-2017 all conference nothing, but anyone and everyone who knows a nubb player or coach is checking phone records for outside slammage because that's what they're capable of. I have an inside source that tells me Tom izzo has suspected for months that Glynn is the reason for his wife's neww found happiness Edited January 27, 2017 by a0t0w0 Phone thinks it's smarter than me. Maybe getting to play alongside another big may be different for Jordy. Maybe it makes Jacobson more effective. A bit ridiculous to think that giving seeing that makeup for a minute or two at a time when you are getting abused down low would make matters worse. Quote

Kind of hard to get on the court when he fouls once every 2 minutes. So, I understand why he doesn't do it. hhcmatt 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 I am at a loss...we simply did not play very well tonight. Missing a contested shot is understandable, but missing numerous open looks and free throws...not acceptable. Quote
