SIGH, I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE TRYING NOT TO HAVE FUN DURING GAMES! I can't get it to work on here because of the filter here at school, but Rosethal tweeted out something about . You know, if you don't like it DON'T DO IT. AND I WILL GIVE UP MY TICKETS AND WRITE LETTERS TO THE EDITOR AND STAND OUTSIDE BEFORE GAMES WITH A BULL HORN CALLING PEOPLE OUT IF THEY GET RID OF THE HUSKER POWER AND WE DO THE THREE CLAP THING INSTEED!!! I think that is much worst than yelling something positive while the other team is being introducted. Three claps like we are tooooooo cooooool to really care but you know whatever. IT IS SO F###ING LAME.3 points -
For those who have just been dying to know, I have just spent 30 minutes looking at an on line debate as to whether the "doodad" over Larranaga's name is a virgulilla or a tilde. The verdict is that it is .....drum roll please....called a "tilde". And now we are all a bit intellectually richer for the time we spend at HHC.3 points

Also, he doesn't foul much for a big man so he'll probably be on the court most of the game. Expect the Huskers to pick and choose their time in the paint. The Skinny Miami blew through the Puerto Rico tournament last week, taking care of Miss St., Utah, and Butler and went from being unranked to #15 in the country. They responded on Sunday by letting a feisty Northeastern team come in a steal a game, which is not exactly the sort of reality check you want for a good team before you meet. Jim Larranaga brings one of the most efficient offenses in the nation to Lincoln, averaging 89 points a game despite being one of the slower teams in Div 1. This team shoots well, doesn't turn the ball over, and draw plenty of fouls in addition to killing it on the boards on both ends. Really their only weakness has been giving the opposition open looks at the 3. Look for the Huskers to shoot from downtown quite a bit tonight. The Huskers will look to push it as much as Miami will allow but we're probably looking at a less than 70 possession game with Miami more than happy to take their time. Thinking back to the last time we beat a rated team here at the PBA in 2014, it was a ruckus crowd that pushed the Badgers a bit and infused confidence into the Cornhuskers. That's the sort of atmosphere needed tonight and it doesn't hurt this game starts at 8. This team has me starting to believe that Miles has laid the foundation for that elusive tournament win in the next couple of years. However, this is a very young team that is prone to ups and downs. Which direction is the roller coaster going tonight? Prediction: Miami 70 - Nebraska 65 with a 45% chance of Runzas Click here to view the article2 points -
It's also unique to us. No one else does it. We didn't copy it from anyone. It's ours. Yep, that is true. I've never heard any other school do the Husker Power chant2 points

There's three things that go one with the Husker Power chant: 1) It's a momentum boost at the start of the game 2) It gets the fans involved early on in the game 3) It sets our atmosphere apart from everyone else Why would we get rid of it?2 points -

It's an approximation. Word on the street is that the Husker Power via lasers is going to be nixed. Considering this isn't a library, it shouldn't be much of an issue. That's a shame. It is already happened as they didn't use the lasers last game. So guessing it's done deal. I don't care what happens during the opponent's introductions as long as it's not the "3 clap" thing they use for volleyball.2 points -

Tells me we can cover him with Jack without him being overpowered physically. There is nothing wrong with more Jack. I was thinking the exact same thing. How do we cover Jekiri... with the 6'10 Spaniard stretching the defense. I predicted 80-73 Skers, but those two on the floor at the same time could really cause match up problems for us. We really need to hit our 3's tonight! We just do it...how you ask? By doing it(in my best Trump voice.) My biggest concern is him protecting the rim rather than us shutting him down on offense. We will need to hit quite a few jump shots this evening if we want to pull out the win IMO.2 points -

This is a team with some young elements but also with some tremendous senior leadership. Miami might want a bounce-back game, but so does Shavon Shields. As in, let's not get into foul trouble in the first 5 minutes of the game and have to sit for huge stretches of the first half. As for the raucous crowd for the Wisconsin game 2 years ago, I would like to point out that the university has apparently officially endorsed our "HUSKER POWER" chant to begin the game. You will notice that they have been projecting the word "HUSKER" onto the floor facing east followed by the word "POWER" facing west, during opposing team intros. I don't know what clearer indication there could be that we are welcome to keep that cheer going. AND WE SHOULD!!!2 points -

Any hope of a big man next year?
Silverbacked1 reacted to Swan88 for a topic
Here is my take from listening to the Miles comments once: 1. There is not a single tone of angst or discomfort; 2. He limits the number of early commitments to see how things turn out with players we already have; and 3. He is optimistic that our current bigs will meet our needs, which would open opportunities for a different recruiting priority. "It's all good," is the message I heard. Also, those who bemoan our "bigs" recruiting history are likely to be moaning about the same issue for the foreseeable future.1 point -

Some stats to think about.....
Bugeaters1 reacted to bkamler for a topic
I spent some time creating a chart which covers stats through the Tennessee game. I took the various stats like points and rebounds for each player and converted them into 30 minute segment showing what each player is averaging per 30 minutes. For example if a player played 100 minutes and scored 50 points that would equate to .50 points per minute X 30 equals 15 points if he played 30 minutes per game. Avg. points per game: 19.14 White (He has been as advertised) 16.30 Shields 12.50 Jacobson (Surprising point production mostly at the line where he is deadly) 12.33 Watson (Just about right) 12.16 Evelyn (Doesn't play much but surprising) 12.00 McVeigh (Good production off the bench) 10.66 Webster (If he can keep it up we are going to win some unexpected games) 9.91 Hammond (Decent) 7.84 Morrow 7.76 Fuller 4.66 Parker Avg. rebounds per game: 10.42 Jacobson (This tells me he needs to play more against the big's coming up) 9.64 Hammond (Same here if he can stay out of foul trouble) 8.06 Morrow (Got to cut down on TO's and hit free throws to play more) 7.76 Fuller (For his size, he's a banger but has to start hitting his free throws) 6.41 Shields (Steady Eddy) 6.00 McVeigh (Decent for his light weight frame) 5.71 White (Helping out on the RB's) 4.92 Webster (See above) 4.03 Evelyn 2.88 Watson 1.72 Parker Avg. free throws attempted per game: 8.28 Fuller (Like I said he's a banger but got to hit more of them) 7.50 Jacobson (Getting to the line and he hits them) 6.49 Evelyn (Benny needs to watch how he does it) 5.03 Shields 3.75 Hammond 3.70 Watson 3.31 White 3.24 Morrow 2.95 Webster 2.77 McVeigh 0.86 Parker (This is embarrassing for a point guard but not surprising) Top players with steals in order: Watson Shields Parker Players with most turnovers in order: Morrow (Got to improve on this to play more) Shields Webster White Least turnovers in order: McVeigh (Great for a freshman) Watson (Great to see for a young point guard) Hammond1 point -
I picked against us as a reverse Jinx since I also picked Tennessee. I will also be in attendance at the game for the first time in a while (which may offset the reverse part of the jinx). Nevertheless, I hope to see a game in which we do not witness a lot of fans leaving early despite the late start on a weeknight. If Miami shoots the three like they did the last time they were here, it could be a close game. At any rate, I hope my guest from Valencia is suitably impressed by the ambiance of the new arena.1 point

Big Ten
HB reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
Tomorrow is going to be a very big test that might tell us a lot about what the rest of our season will hold in store. Can we beat a ranked team at home? A ranked team that won't be looking past us. I'm not saying (here) that we'll win that game, but I am saying that, if we do, we can start harboring some higher expectations for the season than what we might have felt was safe previously.1 point -

Miles actually kind of addressed this issue in his radio appearance tonight. They asked him about the recruiting class that he signed and he was wildly enthusiastic about Roby and Horne. But as to whether he wants to use the last remaining scholarship on a center or not, first of all, he didn't seem entirely certain as to how many scholarships were going to be available come spring. But also, whether we need a big man or not is going to depend, he said, on the progress ofJake Hammond and Michael Jacobson. While he didn't come right out and say it, apparently he thinks there's some possibility, based on how they've done so far, that Hammond and Jacobson could be the answer at center. If so, he indicated he might be more interested in finding a guard. And that depends on how well Evelyn pans out.1 point -

As to Benny and freethrow shooting, I think one of the big reasons Benny doesn't go to the line often is because when he does drive, he's got to create a lot of space to get the shot off due to his lack of length (a/k/a he's short.) So, he's trying to stay AWAY from defenders, drive past them, get beyond them, in order to get a shot off, rather than driving into them to either create contact and a foul or make the shot. So, you're probably not going to see a lot of FTs from Benny ever. It's just a function of his size more than anything else.1 point -

2015-2016 KenPom Rankings Thread
jdostal reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
If you go by KenPom (which this thread obviously does), by the end of the night tomorrow night, we'll have faced 3 teams in the top 16 of KenPom's rankings. That's got to be a huge boost to our strength of schedule (and a 4 point loss to Cinci isn't looking too bad at all, is it?) and if we can snag a win against Miami, it'll be a HUGE boost to our overall ranking. Or, in the words of Donald Trump, it would be a YUGE boost. Very classy, very tasteful, yuge boost.1 point -

Creighton Fan you must really hate me. That is like the 2nd or maybe even the 3rd red mark I have received from you. I suggest you not read anything else from me as it usually has something has to do with my dislike of Creighton. Which seems to rub you the wrong way. And I guess since it is a Nebraska Cornhusker website I should feel free to express my dislike of the above named team. And yes, you are in your right to red mark me every time, but it might become a silly game that we will be playing for a very long time.1 point -
