    Bubble Watch

Saturday 3/1 RPI: 51 Previous RPI: 51 Notes: -Previous non-con foes UMass, Creighton, and Georgia all face bubble teams, giving us three cracks at double whammies. -Bubble teams who probably cannot afford a loss today include Dayton, Tennessee, Missouri, Richmond, LSU, Arkansas, Green Bay, BYU, and Oregon. -A Baylor home loss vs Texas Tech would make things very interesting. They close out the regular season vs ISU and at KState. -Colorado, Pittsburgh, St. Joseph's, SMU, VCU, and Xavier could all but seal up a bid with a win. -Dayton, LSU, Xavier, VCU, Minnesota, Cal, and Oklahoma St. are the teams who have an opportunity to add a quality win to their resumé. 10 AM **UMASS at Dayton (ESPNU) 11 AM *CINCINNATI at Connecticut (ESPN) *MIAMI at North Carolina State (ESPN 3) VANDERBILT at Tennessee (ESPN 2) 12 PM *FGCU at Northern Kentucky 12:30 PM TEXAS TECH at Baylor (ESPN 3) MISSISSIPPI ST. at Missouri (ESPN 3) 1 PM NOTRE DAME vs Pittsburgh (ESPN 2) UTAH vs Colorado (Pac12) RHODE ISLAND vs Richmond 2 PM ST. 2. I know this may not belong here but there aren't many posts on the marketplace board so I figured more people would see it here. I have an extra ticket in section 319 for the NW game, PM me if interested.

  7. So if you tell Ray to stop shooting what do you do with Pitch and Pettaway do you tell them to stop shooting since they aren't hitting anything ? I didn't think so.

  9. Nebraska Cornhuskers (16-11) vs Northwestern Wildcats (12-16) Location: Pinnacle Bank Arena Date: Saturday, March 1, 2014 Time: 4 pm, CST TV: ESPNU Radio: Across the state on the IMG Husker Sports Radio Network, including KLIN (1400 AM/94.5 FM) in Lincoln, KFAB (1110 AM) in Omaha and KRVN (880 AM) in Lexington. Play-by-play: Kent Pavelka; Color: Matt Davison Kent Pavelka Tailgate Pump up MixNorthwestern Info Head Coach: Chris Collins Location: Evanstan, IL Conference: B1G 10 Nickname: Wildcats Mascot: Willie the Wildcat Last time out: Lost to Indiana Typical Rotation Depth: 6-7 players Line: Nebraska by 9 Fun Fact : Chris Collins is the son of former NBA player/coach Doug Collins. He played for and coached at Duke under Mike Krzyzewski. His basketball pedigree is the opposite of Tim Miles. Fun Fact : Northwestern is located South West of Lake Michigan in the Northern part of the US Possible Starters Huskers 0 Tai Webster 6-4 194 Fr 2 David Rivers 6-7 198 Jr 5 Terran Petteway 6-6 209 So 31 Shavon Shields 6-7 219 So 35 Walter Pitchford 6-10 234 So Wildcats 3 Dave Sobolewski 6-1 180 Jr 14 Tre Demps 6-2 193 So 1 Drew Crawford 6-5 215 Sr 34 Sanjay Lumpkin 6-6 210 Fr 22 Alex Olah 7-0 265 So Last time vs Northwestern The Huskers scored all of 16 points in the first half but only trailed by 6. Leading scorer Terran Petteway sealed the Huskers first B1G road win with a long shot clock beating 3 pointer while Walter Pitchford chipped in 15 points. The Skinny Nebraska's first road win vs. Northwestern proved to be a turning point for both teams. The Huskers went on a 5 game winning streak to propel them into NCAA tournament consideration. Northwestern has now lost five straight to fall into the logjam that is the basement of the B1G. Even more bad news for the offensively challenged Wildcats as they've lost their second leading scorer in JerShon Cobb. Besides scoring, the loss of Cobb's length additionally hurts the Wildcat defense and exposes their lack of depth. Northwestern will be tough in this game, stopping at nothing to deny you free Runzas, but should be a team Nebraska can eventually put away at home. The Wildcats will pack the paint at all costs, attempt to make 3s after running down the shot clock, and hope that the refs will swallow their whistles. Look for Nebraska to work on some outside shooting today as it's going to be vital going forward. Prediction: Nebraska 66 - Northwestern 51 with a 55% chance of Runzas Click here to view the article

  13. Don't know where to post this but I'll post it here... Am I the only one who's getting sick of the politics of ESPN and their whole basketball analysis? They have a tremendous power to promote the bubble teams that they want to see in the tournament because of history, famous past coaches, etc. I guess what set me over the top is seeing that they're hosting Gameday at Oklahoma State.... Did they not just have a 7 game losing streak like A WEEK AGO?

  14. Good question. I'd imagine an extra day would be added w/ 6 teams earning a first-round bye... or, the bottom 2 teams aren't invited to the party. Honestly, I think I'd be okay with not inviting the bottom two. That really gives those bottom ~4 teams a big incentive to keep performing toward the end of the season. There's not a conference in America that leaves teams out of it's basketball tourney. That tourney is the chance for every team to turn March to madness!!

  17. Whew - that's a big setback for them. Losing Cobb makes it even more important for NW to get Demps going, but Benny did a great job shutting down Demps last time, hopefully he can do it again. Guessing they'll try to ugly up the game even more than they usually do. By the way NU favored by 8 - our biggest spread as a favorite in a conference game since late in the 2009 season against Iowa St. In our first 49 B1G games we were favored 5 times - now we've been favored in four of our last six games - Las Vegas is finally getting on the Miles bandwagon!

  18. 118 years of basketball at Nebraska and we have never played Maryland. Then in year 119, we play them twice. Strange.

  19. BTW, there is at least one scenario (with NU winning out and lots of upsets) where we are a 3 seed with a bye facing the Illinois/PSU winner.

  23. Ronnie was a good kid. He used to live with Curtis Moore, Stan Cloudy and Anthony White in a house on F street and was always cheerful, polite and uninvolved in team controversy. I remember sitting behind the basket in Manhattan and watching him beat K State with a last second shot. Tragic that he passed so young but he did have a long pro career, successful marriage and contributed in a positive way to society. Not a bad legacy for anyone. RIP

Man I feel for the selection committee this year. There are going to be a lot of unhappy people with their placement in the brackets, including us probably. The 16 hosts sites are: Storrs, Lexington, Chapel Hill, Baton Rouge, Toledo, West Lafayette, University Park, Durham, Los Angeles, Iowa City, College Park, Knoxville, Ames, Seattle, College Station, Waco. Now of these 16 Nebraska CAN"T go to: Storrs (#1 seed), Toledo (assume to place a #1 seed there), West Lafayette (2 B1G teams can't play in second round), University Park (same thing), Los Angeles (assuming Stanford is sent here as #1 seed), Iowa City (B1G teams), and most likely Ames (protecting #1 seed). That leaves: Lexington Chapel Hill Baton Rouge Durham College Park Knoxville Seattle College Station Waco Now: Baylor and Tennessee are probably most definitely going to be 2 seeds. So we wouldn't sent to either of those places because we are higher than the 7/10 seeds. THIS leaves: College Station Seattle College Park Durham Baton Rouge Lexington Now is where this gets interesting. Duke is currently listed as a 2 seed, but with the injury to Alexis Jones it's POSSIBLE that the committee could move them to a 3 seed. If they don't and leave Duke as a 2 seed, then this eliminates Durham as a place for Nebraska to go, and you STILL have Louisville who will either be a 1 seed or a 2 seed and Nebraska won't be assigned to either of those two sites. But Louisville isn't hosting the 1/2 rounds so they will have to be sent somewhere, most likely Baton Rouge for geography reasons. Let's say all of this is exactly what the committee is thinking too, that leaves: Lexington Chapel Hill College Park Seattle College Station Of these, the best place would be Seattle (for neutral court reasons). This year is a mess compared to recent years just because of the teams that are hosting and ones that maybe shouldn't be. I'm sure we will all be surprised on selection day and either be relieved or angered lol. As I have just finished typing this, if you see an error (I didn't use logic thinking, or repeated something twice) please let me know so I can eliminate the confusion.

    Disappointed

Then I am scratching my head about why you would start a new thread to express that. Go to one of the several other game discussion threads and say so. Starting a new thread about it struck me more as a way to draw attention to your disappointment with the TEAM not the GAME. Hence, my reply.
