  1. This post was forwarded to me so I signed up to join the conversation. I'm not looking to post anonymously. This is Tom Lorenz, General Manager of Pinnacle Bank Arena. The spokespersons for the arena are myself and my Assistant General Manager and neither one of us made any official or unofficial statements about the court storming. No media talked to us about this topic. I'm not going to use this forum to make an official statement other than to say we celebrated the win over OSU with as much excitement and enthusiasm as the students and other fans. There are several issues to address regarding "court storming". We discussed the possibility of that successful outcome before the game and we prepared for the exact scenario that unfolded at the end of the game. Any decisions regarding future access to the court post game will involve a lengthy discussion that will take in to consideration all of the components associated with "court storming" and that discussion will include University of Nebraska Athletic Department officials. The event is UNL's event, the floor is the property of the City of Lincoln / West Haymarket Joint Public Agency. Thanks to all of you for your passion about Men's and Women's Husker Basketball. We share that passion and we will consider that component as we make good decisions going forward. No decision has been made about future court storming's but there clearly are issues to consider that have significant impact that would provide reasoning for continuing and stopping the practice into the future. We will weigh those issues carefully.

  4. EDIT: We are +4.5 to +5 dogs. We actually have to go out on the floor and beat Penn State. They aren't going to just give us the win. I think we are getting way way ahead of ourselves. This is still Nebraska basketball. I think a lot of us would be served if we just took took some deep breaths and took a step back. We are 9-8 and 1-4. If we lose to Penn State we are in a dog fight to stay out of the cellar. We have a shot to beat Penn State, but even with a shot it is still more likely we lose. We are all pretty high right now but if we lose to PSU we cannot let it crater our hopes for a positive rebuilding year.

  8. If you and/or some people are going to a bar to watch the game, that should be the unofficial bar for the Penn St. game. This is your shot at squatter's rights. There's a free jar of cipsalsa for every HHC poster who watches the game at Conlee's tomorrow night. Heck, I'll even buy the first beer. You ain't getting a better deal than that in frickin' Lincoln...

  9. Conference coaches have to be looking at our solid core of underclassmen and thinking to themselves this Nebraska team is going to be a tough out in the coming years. Give me Petteway, a healthy Shields, a settled-in Webster, a more disciplined Biggs, a rested Leslee Smith, a more-experienced Walt Pitchford, and a sharp-shooting Nick Fuller, and a group overall more used to playing with each other and this team right here -- not some mythical team with a former Husker great on it, but THIS team -- could challenge for the top half of the league next year. There. I said it. Next year.

  12. I was asking about B1G: "Have we ever had someone get conference honors in the B1G like that?" Sorry if that wasn't clear but, yeah, Venson was the man. We could use another Venson right now.

    Win tonight and....

It's not that it can't be discussed. It's that every time this team gets a "big" win, everyone gets so excited only to be let down when things come crashing back down to earth. For me, it's just a bit of a "here we go again" thing. If they go on a streak, that might change, but that's the issue for me.

  18. a coin flip game. it helps to remind yourself that while the top of the conference isn't as good as last year, the bottom is better than last year. that includes PSU, just as it does us. we foul, we lose. we defend without fouling a ton early, and shoot at least 46%, we should win. Just be glad we get a second game this week. I was beginning to think we only played once a week.

  19. Exactly. I suspect the worry from somebody higher up is more that somebody might get injured and sue the U or PBA. Same reason our cheerleaders can't do the lifts and other stunts every other cheerleading squad still does.

    Win tonight and....

It's perfectly fine to talk about postseason tournaments. It's only natural. When you go from a point in the schedule when it's like 'how are we even gonna win a single league game this year' to beating Ohio State with more manageable games coming--it's to be expected. We should be talking postseason tournaments all the time. Win tonight and it's gonna go crazy and it should. Beating Ohio State and adding to that by grabbing a win on the road and you're looking at going from 'can't do it' to 'proved we can now just need more'. The NCAA tournament talk should escalate rapidly. People just shouldn't confuse those potential and what would it take conversations with yes, we are definitely going dancing. Let's have fun.

  26. Sadly, it appears as though the B1G does not have a Newcomer of the Year award. Just an award for the best Freshman. If Petteway keeps putting up really good scoring numbers, a Third or even Second Team selection seems possible. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/big10/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/2012-13/misc_non_event/2013AllBigTen.pdf http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/big10/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/2011-12/misc_non_event/B1GMBB12Awards.pdf

  27. Wore an alternate jersey at Penn State last season and won. If you think winning and losing depends on the color of uniform worn, then you're thinking too much.

This is something lifted from the Lincoln Stars, in case people are unaware. We used to do that at Lincoln Northeast in the early 90's.

  31. Not surprising. After the games the floor monitors don't even allow you to make one step on the very corner of the wood floor when rounding the corner. They treat it like the Sistene Chapel. Wish they gave one ounce of the same consideration to the food served in the joint. Give me a break; PBA can bite me.

  32. I'm actually surprised this thread hasn't gotten more play. We've never had a B1G all-conference player before and it's been a long time since we've had an all-conference player at all. All-conference Husker men's basketball players are few and far between. And I'm tellin' ya, this kid is putting up 1st or 2nd team numbers. He might not make an all-league team this year, but we're watching a kid play right now who could be the best Husker basketball player to come along since Venson Hamilton and Ty Lue. I mean Jeebuz, people, we finally have a guy who comes in and lives up to the hype. Exceeds the hype, even. When have we seen that? People said before the season that he for sure would start. But who would have pegged him to average better than 17 ppg? Sure, he has some things to fix. Which is why he's maybe not a 1st or 2nd team kid this year. But if he tightens up his defense and learns to play a little more within himself and cut down those silly turnovers, he is going to be one of the best players in the league next year and one of the best Husker basketball players of the last 20 years or so. Where's the Terran love?

  34. That photo of Parker and Craft in #13 shows how Craft has been able to get all those steels over the years. Hey, that's not a reach-in foul. That's just good defense. And, speaking of photo #13, is that Jake Muhleisen in the background underneath Craft's dangling armpit hair?

    2013-2014 KenPom Rankings Thread

Oh, man this one is going to be fun to do! First off, notice that Creighton is up all the way to #2, and Iowa checks in at the top of the B1G (#4). Next, check out the nice, fat "W" next to the Ohio State line. Oh yeah, that is sweet. It's also very annoying to see that "L" next to Michigan where a "W" should be. And, checking in at a lofty #7 in the league, there is DONU! That's right. That's us ahead of Indiana and Illinois! I've been saying it since the Iowa game, but these guys are better than they think they are. A little confidence will go a long ways for them. Another irritating little niggle is the "L" next to the Purdue line. That looks like a very bad loss this morning. Ah, C'est La Vie! Here is today's KenPom update: Kenpom rankings as of 1-16-14. ============================== B1G (1-4): 4. Iowa - L 5. Michigan State 8. Wisconsin 13. Michigan - L 15. Ohio State - L, W 34. Yep. Nothing wrong at all to discuss what is needed to go to NCAA tourney. If creighton fans are too damn stupid to understand the difference between discussion and thinking we are going, then that is their problem for being so stupid. The goal always us the dance. And taking about it is normal and should happen, no matter how far away it is.
