Maybe it was the no beard allowing us to see more of his face, but Brice had great body language last night and was a great teammate and giving out high fives, all despite going 2-9 and scoring only 10 points. So I want to give credit where it's due. He looked to play like a team leader last night even though he didn't shoot it great. Also at the end when Burt and Grace scored, Brice was one of the most excited guys on the bench for them.

    Notes from UNL

    • Nebraska extends its home win streak to 15 games following tonight’s win over FDU.
    • Juwan Gary recorded season highs in points (19), assists (five), blocked shots (two), free throws made (seven) and attempted (eight). Gary’s assists and free throws were both career highs.
    • Nebraska finished with a season-high 20 assists and a season-low eight turnovers. Its 20 assists marked NU’s highest assist total since the 2024 Big Ten Tournament against Indiana.
    • Nebraska went on a 10-0 run in the first half, its second double-digit run of the season.  (11:49-8:53)
    • Berke Büyüktuncel finished with a season-high 12 points and matched career bests in both rebounds (seven) and assists (three). It is the third straight game he has grabbed at least six rebounds.
    • Brice Williams finished with 10 points and has now been in double figures in seven straight games, which matches the longest stint of his career.
    • Cale Jacobsen saw his first action of the season and set career bests in rebounds (four) and assists (assists) in a stint of 5:04 in the first half. Jacobsen finished with a +12 in 6:44 of game time.
    • Nebraska’s bench outscored FDU 29-5 and had half of NU’s 20 assists.
    • Nebraska converted 17 FDU turnovers into 28 points.
    • Nebraska went 23-of-28 from the foul line and has gotten to the foul line at least 25 times in all three contests.
    • Nebraska held FDU to 60 points, well under its 84.7 ppg average in its first three games.
    • Sam Hoiberg led NU with three steals, the second straight game with three steals.
    • Nebraska has now won 24 straight games when holding an opponent under 70 points, including 30-2 over the last two-plus seasons. The time Nebraska lost a game when holding an opponent under 70 points was against Purdue in 2022.

    1.  Every time Juwan shoots a three, I say something like "crap, no!"  I really love being wrong.

    2.  I am really liking Gavin.  He is much more than just a shooter.  His play should result in more minutes.

    4.  Okay, neither of our point guards are perimeter shooters.  If they are okay with it, then I am good with us going with the best match up/hot hand.

If you had told me Rollie Worster and Juwan Gary ranked 2 and 3 on the team in 3pt percentage through three games, I'd have said holy crap we are having an amazing start. There are 4 or 5 players I expected to (and still do expect) to shoot better than them.

Took care of business like they should've.

-Berke has a goofy lovable personality. He seems like a really good teammate and I'm super glad he's here. Him at the 5 also opens up the offense. Glad to see him knock down a 3, it was needed.

-morgan had a tough night. Few missed rotations and few times he fouled unnecessarily.

-i was really impressed with ullis and how he pushed the pace last night. Put pressure on the rim a few times. His jumper will never be good, but just maybe knock down 1 every other game or so to keep the defense honest.

-3 point shooting is the hot topic right now, and rightfully so. I've been pleased with the shot selection mostly, but they need to knock down the shots. As simple as that.

-Brices shot went away after the first game, but he impacted the game in a few different ways last night. Liked his control of the offense and how he defended. FDUs guard, Terrance Brown, can GO and Brice guarded him most of the night. Brown had single digits in the first half, and it looked like fdu got him off ball more to get him going early in the second, and he finished with 20. Watch him as a potential transfer up guy in the spring

-i noticed it Saturday and it was even more evident today, but the defense is already at mid season form and I think that'll be where we hang our hat on most nights. Length seems to force turnovers consistently and they're already at 12 blocks on the year 3 games in after having 87 all of last year.

St Mary's is interesting. PG/big combo is excellent and should be giving us problems. One thing to note, they only have 4 guys who have made a 3 this year, and two of them haven't shot it great at all. If that holds true, this is definitely a game that Meah was brought in for, and even Morgan. Inside the arc affair with minimal 3 pt activity. They're efficient and don't turn it over a ton. Very interesting matchup, and one that the baseline double defense Loesner runs may be effective in

I watched Bethune/Cookman game on tv and came away thinking there was too much selfish play. Last night things were much more unselfish so things looked better. Also liked how guys were interacting with each other after good plays/made baskets. And when Morgan was in FDU had a small line up but not 1 time did he post up. Realize Fred is calling sets but that sure looked like an advantage that got missed.

The lineup I wouldn't mind seeing in crunch time... is coincidentally our top +/- for the season.

Some of those "We won't miss KT as much as you might think next year" posts have really stood out early. Still time, but there isn't a single guy that I've seen who I have as much confidence in shooting the rock from anywhere as I did with KT.

While I wouldn’t have an issue when any of those 5 in crunch time (especially with Hoiberg switching for defense with Essegian), there is no chance that Bryce is not included in crunch time of a close game.

It's the give and the take. Those defensive stats look pretty good. You're right about having a shooter like that on the roster. But one does not simply replace a Keisei Tominaga. I mean how many have we had like that ever?

Edit - And to be clear I'd build my whole team around Tominaga if I could 😉

I'm kind of in that group, and the reason why is I think Mast is a bigger loss off last year's squad than Keisei.  Rienk is like the ideal Hoiberg system guy.

In other words, Keisei is fun and the ultimate showman, but Mast is the one that actually makes it all work.

You’re probably right. Especially for his FT shooting. Probably switching out Bryce for GG.

Just wanted to mention that we emptied the bench in this one in terms of playing Henry Burt and Jeffrey Grace.  That means that Braden Frager, Nick Janowski, and Justin Bolis have maintained their redshirt eligibility.

Pretty cool for those three to choose to redshirt. It's rare these days, even for freshman who won't be in the rotation. Nick could've competed for spot and situational minutes this year. They'll be three good culture guys for the next 3-4 years.

The Good: We get the free throw line often and have many guys scoring in the paint.  Last year, we struggled to get into the paint, and our offense stalled especially against athletic teams on the road.  The defense looks like it'll be legit this year every guy on the floor can defend, even Berke, which I wasn't expecting.  Speaking of Berke he gets better every single game.  Next game and Creighton might be rough for him, but if his shot falls that'll open a lot up for him.

The Bad: Three-point shooting still looks ugly, but they are getting great looks from deep. As confident as Fred seemed in the press conference about their ability to shoot I'm not too worried. They did shoot 8-21 from 3 against Utah per Robin so maybe the past three games have been below-average nights for them. What I think is even more concerning is the lack of finishing around the rim.  It feels like every game this year they have left at least 15 points worth of bunnies out on the floor.  That is a bigger problem than the three-point shooting because you have to finish at the rim at a higher clip since we aren't as high-powered on offense as last year.  Andrew Morgan, I still don't understand why he's playing less than 20 minutes a game with what he can do with the ball in his hands.  Is he still hurt, or what is the deal there?

I was thinking the same thing, until I realized Williams was not in that five.

I boarded the GG train when I read the reaction from a Rutgers board when he left for Nebraska.  They knew he has talent and Hoiberg would probably get the most out of him.
