The most glaring thing I have seen is you can't win consistently with major mismatches.  This has been a staple for Miles playing two pgs many times as well as the undersized "C" we all have complained about..  No more playing two pgs together for significant minutes please.  The slight defensive advantage with Benny completely disrupts the offense at times.  You may be able to sneak a win here or there vs a Michigan St, but too many times the team was at a major disadvantage with the other team only have to guard 4 of 5.  Makes it pretty easy to play D.  Rebounding was terrible most of the year with these mismatches.  The stats may not show it, but many times other teams had so many 2nd chances with offensive rebounds killing so much momentum.

The freshman look good.  I'd have to think all of them pretty much above expectations.  Some might say they expected more out of Morrow, but its hard to say with his injuries at the end of the year.  At times Watson, McVeigh, and Jacobson have all looked real solid.

White was really good.  Having him being the #1 option while Shields was out was good one game, but not so good the others.  Once again this probably has a lot to do with injuries.  Hopefully he was what it takes to be the leader next year.

Future looks bright with Gill, Roby, and Horne entering the mix.  Hopefully these new people and everyone with a year more experience can replace the production of Shields.  It seems like a tall task, but should be doable.

I will be having the same anticipation in the offseason as the past few years.  Looking for the magic big body to show who can defend a big 10 center.   Once again it is probably too late in the game to get anyone good.   Maybe something changes the mind of one of these transfers this year.  We'll see.  I don't like this Groundhog day that seems to repeat each year.

Next year will be better. Currently we are still a Center short and shooting gaurd. I think the center spot will get addressed bc I think we land Jordy. The shooting guard can't get addressed bc of scholarship limits. But the biggest need is obviously a big man with good size that can make an impact right away.

I have no inside info, but i think at least 1 player transfers which will open up another spot.

This day and age it is almost a given atleast one player will transfer. But it still won't really fix anything bc to have a complete roster I would say 5 gaurds, 3 wings, and 5 PF/C are needed. So say Bakari transfers, well we are already a gaurd short and now we are losing another so the new recruit would take Bakaris spot and we would still be a gaurd short. Same with Hammond in the post position. Nick Fuller would be the most beneficial transfer option but imo he is also the least likely to do so. We have to many wing type players with White, Roby, and McVeigh so Fuller will prob see even less time unless he improves his game or injuries occur.

Just too many missing pieces.  Too inexperienced.  Unfortunately I believe we finished about where predicted before the season started.  Just couldn't overcome the loss of our size and Petteway.  Not sure I can put much blame on the kids, coaches had to put them in some no win situations (Kudos to Jacobsen and Morrow for doing what they could playing the 5 this year).

I always hope next year will be better.  Hopefully the kids, and staff, can learn from this year.  Maybe find that resolve and daily grit this team and program will need.  Work hard this off season and we'll see what happens next.

I'd like to think there is a good foundation.  Next season we'll have one of the better rosters as far as stars and player rankings in a long time, maybe ever, at Nebraska.  Get a C (or two) of course.  Somehow learn to win at home will be a must.  I just hope that translates into some history being made with our first NCAA tourney win.  Once that glass ceiling is broken the sky will be the limit.  I mean, why not us? :D

I doubt there is a team out there that has a "complete" roster. Every team has some deficiencies somewhere.

I'm not sure that I learned anything other than the freshmen could be pretty solid by the time they are juniors & seniors. That requires patience and as we head into year 5, it is wearing a bit thin.

I have always thought coaching was primarily about putting your kids in the best position to succeed. As the year progressed, we basically saw a version of the dribble-drive motion offense - but unless you have at least 2 high-quality shooters on the floor, it just doesn't work. (See: Northwestern). Are there other options? I don't know.

Defensively, we really struggle when we have to help in the post - this has been consistent all year and yet, we continued to try to force it. Are there other options? I don't know.

And that is the real problem - there shouldn't be that many "I don't knows" through 4 years. I have been a staunch supporter and believer in Miles since his arrival. I really like him and want him to be the guy to get this done. But I find myself questioning it at this point.

Idk why people are taking this season so hard. We only returned Shields, Webster, Fuller, Hammond, and Parker from last year. Hammond and Fuller barely played last year. Parker and Webster weren't that great last year either. So basically you return Shields, two role players, and two bench players. Then you add in 5 freshmen and a transfer who had never saw meaningful minutes in his college career and you have a very inexperienced and small team. That's not gonna turnout good in any power 5 basketball conference. Aside from the upset @ Michigan State we didn't beat a credible team all year. But we did play alot of good teams close. And aside from Purdue (obviously they are a huge mismatch for us due to size) I never really felt like we got completely overwhelmed by any Big Ten opponent. This leads me to believe that we are close. Yes we lose Shields but I think the development of the freshmen and the addition of Gill, Horne, and Roby will more than offset that. We are still in desperate need of a big man but I'm sure we land one whether it be a freshmen, JUCO, or grad transfer. Long story short, cheer up we were better next year and even better the next.

Basketball/baseball fact of the day: Krzyzewski is a lifelong Cubs fan.

Well, he is a native Chicagoan, so what do you expect?  I mean there really aren't such things as White Sox fans are there?  ;)

The Cubs WILL WIN the World Series this year.  It has to finally be our year, right???

As far as the Huskers, they still need to find the formula.  That formula creates winning basketball.  We have consistently missed an ingredient or two.  Every year it seems like it is something different.  This year, not having a true post player hurt us on both ends of the floor.  We were up, we were down, we hit our outside shots, then we missed our outside game.  Every time out, it seemed like we fixed something, while something else broke down.

Honestly, I felt we were a better team than last year.  But again, we haven't been able to mix that formula quite right...My inner Cubbie tells me that next year will finally be the year that we take it to the highest level.  ;)
