I would think so. When we had Ubel (not a stud, but closest we've had under miles) we were able to get him the ball. i have to believe our coaching staff would install something to get the ball inside

from what it looks like Watson and maybe Trueblood could all though trueblood was against weak opposition.

Honest question. If we had a stud post player would we be able to get him the ball? I'm curious as to your responses.

Good question. But understand this:  Right now, it's not that we can't; it's that we just don't.

 

I think the point for the players is "why bother with a post entry?  They wouldn't be able to do anything with it anyway."

 

That would change if we had a stud post.

Totally agree Norm, sometimes our post works hard to get good position and we don't even look to him. It is like how some said about not guarding Benny. Nobody doubles down so they are guarding us one one one on the post.

There have been a few times each game that a good pass is made into the post only to have the player fumble the ball away.  Goodness, tonight Jake shot an air ball from the rim...we are who we are this year.  Hopefully a back to the basket post player is in the cards for next year.

There is problems both ways. Post guys haven't proven to be able to catch the ball and or not looking when guys like watson or webster feed them the ball. The pick and roll has been open on numerous occasions and they would rather swing to the outside.

 

Another thing I noticed (even more tonight) was when they would drive, no one (exclude a few occasions all year) would look to a player crashing or open down low. They would rather pass outside or force something and sometimes draw the foul.

Post entry passing is becoming more and more of a lost skill. Most players just don't know how to do it. Even if your post player is not a real offensive threat, the defense still reacts to it initially. The post can then pass to either a cutter to the basket or to a shooter at the 3 point line.

Morrow not expecting the ball when Watson split two defenders with a pass sort of says it all. Even if we're not posting up getting it inside starts to open up everything else.

everybody in the building was expecting Glynn to kick it out to Shields in the corner on that play. Including Morrow I think.

Hence, our offensive style is what is it is right now, at least that's what I think.  The offense right now is designed to put our best players in position to score, i.e. Shields and White.  That said, every game there's a couple times we miss what almost surely would be a score or trip to the FT line by passing up the entry pass.

With all the talk of Miles not being able to recruit a quality big man, the lack of good point guards who can put the posts and forwards in a good position to score has been certainly lacking.  Lesser post players can be made productive through good guard play/offense.

There is this observation, it isn't that Coach Miles cannot recruit a big; quite frankly I believe he does a terrific job recruiting all types of talent.  The bugaboo is that we have not been able to close on a big.  There are a lot of kids being recruited.  A lot of excellent talent.  What we have to be able to do is convince these kids that Nebraska is it...we haven't been able to do that...Coach Miles hasn't been able to do that across the board.  He has been getting closer and closer.  The evidence is found within the current freshman class. 

 

A big has been MIA.  I am convinced that will soon change.  I am convinced!
