Minnesota_Husker Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 I like coach Smith as much as the next guy, I think he'll be a hell of a coach and if coach Miles leaves us for another job who knows maybe coach Smith would be a good candidate to replace him. But to say his presence or absence was the reason for Nebrasketball's anything last year or this is absolutely laughable, IMO. I also think saying the reason we sucked was because Gallegos left is laughable. It might have been a factor, but i just think mentality changed and the "Fight" and chip on our shoulder went away. Laughable, huh? Seems kind of off-putting to put that in there... IMHO, spacing on the offensive end was very poor this year, and Ray was an underrated defender as well. It's clearly not THE factor for the demise this year, but it was A factor in the slide. Quote
ajb5856 Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 I haven't really seen anyone on here give a reason for the crappy season and claim it as the one and only reason for why the season went the way it did. I've seen lots of posts giving possible factors contributing to the crappy season. If you watched opposing teams and the way they guarded Gallegos while he was on the floor last year, there's no way you could claim that his departure didn't contribute to the poor spacing on offense, packed in defenses, and clogged driving lanes this season. A couple...I think. Yeah, he had one at home in the 2010 Oklahoma game. It was a pretty legit dunk too. (In all fairness to Jorge, he had two dunks in that game alone) http://espn.go.com/ncb/playbyplay?gameId=300300158 6:04 38-51 Brian Diaz made Two Point Dunk Shot. Quote
Dean Smith Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 I know everybody is joking but we would have been a much better team this year if Diaz was on it and had some eligibility left of course. We were drastically missing a post presence on the offensive end that he could have provided. I haven't looked at at stats but it's my gut feeling he gave more to nebraska over his shortened career in total than Pitchford did in his limited time. I know we went to the dance last year with Pitch and he was a big part but his giant negatives this year kind of cancel his plusses out big picture. Silverbacked1, Swan88 and Norm Peterson 3 Quote

He was just a goofy guy, but he actually played like a big. He had some low post moves. I think two things that would really help this team was someone who could shoot and someone who could post up. Sadly, that might not matter because this team will look very different without TP. Quote
