considering that if we're 10-8 we're probably AT LEAST 5th because we beat wisconsin at home?  unless you think wisconsin will win either at michigan or at iowa.  OSU could lose a couple more games easily too.  EXTREME outside shot of catching iowa with that record (who has the tiebreaker so it's moot but still).

 

we could easily finish higher than 6th if we go 10-8 is my only point.

Is the premise of this poll that a 10-8 Nebraska finish will cause a coach to lose votes to Miles and thus alter the shape of the COTY race?  Otherwise it's inclusion in this topic is somewhat confusing.  

 

FWIW, I think Miles has a better chance than Motta of winning this thing.

If we go 10-8 the Devil will be buying a winter coat.  And I will be celebrated.

 

If we go 10-8 and I think Miles would get coach of the year unless MSU, MU or Iowa finishes the year really strong.  You could argue that Michigan has exceeded expectations more than us up to this point.

FWIW, I think Miles has a better chance than Motta of winning this thing.

No, I'm just being a smartass.  If the team picked to finish last finishes at 10-8 and in the top half of the conference, you'd be hard pressed to convince me that there was another coach in the league who'd done a more impressive job of coaching.  But I think there's a reputation bias in these things and I think one of the "name" coaches at a "name" program will win -- unless we somehow run the tables from here on out.  However impressive it would be for Miles to get us to 10-8, the COTY will probably go to someone else.  That was my (subtle) point.

If Miles gets this team to 10-8, I think he'd be a near unanimous choice for COTY, although Beilein deserves a lot of credit considering what he lost of last year's team and losing one of the best big men in the country for the season.

The scary thing is... we should have at least ten wins. We should be favored in 3 of our last 4 home games (and Wisky is a tossup) and losing to these reeling Indiana and Illinois teams, even on the road, would be bad losses now.

How much does a B1G COY earn?

 

We may need to negotiate a new contract sooner than previously thought.   :D

 

Especially with the long-sought-after NCAA Tournament victory(ies) fast approaching!! GO MILES & CO.!!

This actually scares me. I was hoping to see a NCAA tournament in my life time. If we win... :)

Even though we would have greatly exceeded expectations, I just think there's such a bias in favor of the coaches at the top that I would be surprised to see Miles honored even if we have a top-half conference finish.

I don't see the bias that you do, at all.  Miles has gotten so much love from the national media over the last couple weeks and is probably the leader in the clubhouse for COTY right now depending on how the rest of the season goes.  He's (at the least) in contention with Izzo and Beilein, who have also done incredible jobs this season.
