jdostal Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I've gotta say I'm glad we don't play the Mavs this year. They just beat SCST 91-59. Quote
cipsucks Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 We'd kick their asses in football. hhcmatt 1 Quote
jdostal Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 Haha, and women's basketball! I think we'd win, they just seem like a team who can beat/hang with a lot of teams. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I've gotta say I'm glad we don't play the Mavs this year. They just beat SCST 91-59. The Mavs have pretty good ball handling/shooting, especially from their perimeter & wing players.. Omaha also beat a UMKC team by 30 (101-71) that hung w/ the Jays for a while. Omaha will play at South Carolina State next Monday, in a quirky scheduling home-and-home one-week series. Quote
royalfan Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Mind boggling good play by UNO so far. This a club that cannot even go to dance for couple more years. How they are so good(yes small sample size) is amazing. They led most of the game at Iowa and barely lost to UNLV on the road as well. Those are schools I would have expected to hammer a team like UNO. And they are drubbing the weaker teams on schedule so far. It is a nice secondary school to be able to root for living in Omaha and having gone to grad school there. bobcat402 and Noah121 2 Quote
Swan88 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 The Michigan v. SCSt.score was 93 - 59. So Michigan is only two points better than UN-O's 91 -59 win. Pretty amazing! Quote

jdostal Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 They have to wait so many years after joining Div 1 to be eligible, for some reason. Quote

They are transitioning from D-II to D-I, and transitioning teams have a 4-yr ban from the NCAAs in the process. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 They have to wait so many years after joining Div 1 to be eligible, for some reason. I believe one reason is to keep teams from making the leap to the "big time" that don't appear to have a game-plan for improvement in competition level as well as raising financial support necessary for D-1 athletics. bobcat402 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 i cant wait for UNO to become tourney eligible, this state needs three competitive teams, and im so excited for that day to come. Cookie Belcher and Noah121 2 Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Unlv lost by 21 at home to uc Santa Barbara. They aren't the same team as last year. They have some studs but after watching them tonight they play street ball basically and can be beat by a team. Quote
Cookie Belcher Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Have been really impressed by UNO this year Quote
Huskerpapa Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Isn't UNO a card game? It is like comparing us to that NE Nebraska team...Creighton, Plainview or whatever? Quote
Noah121 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 They (UNO) sort of remind me of the South Dakota State women's basketball team during their transition years in the mid '00 years: great record, but ineligible for the NCAA due to the transition period. The Jacks, however, did compete in the WNIT during that time. I think that UNO would be eligible for the NIT or CBI or such if they do well enough. Or are they ineligible for ALL post-season tournaments until the transition is complete? Quote
jimmykc Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I would guess that Noah is the only poster here who would be able to make such an arcane connection of teams. Or am I the only one who fails to remember that powerhouse SDS women's team from a decade ago? 49r and Noah121 2 Quote
uneblinstu Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I just asked Gary Sharp on Twitter: Quote
HB Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Interesting that UNO had that blow out score with Simmons only playing 1 minutes due to injury. We struggled with that team for 30 minutes, and UNO blows them out missing their best player. Many of you probably noticed the chippiness of SCSU during our game. Well, there was a double ejection in the SCSU-UNO game. Quote

Chuck Taylor Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I love that it gives kids another D1 option in this state. Hey, Norfolk's Jalen Bradley had 15 points in 12 minutes last night, although it was mop up. And CJ Carter of Benson has been outplaying Simmons. It's bound to help the sport in general. Quote
uneblinstu Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 There are a bunch of D1 caliber players in Omaha right now, if they can't get into Creighton or NU, UNO could find themselves with a nice little team when they're eligible for the dance. Quote

I was going to say something along this earlier. The state of Nebraska (and especially Omaha) produces some quality basketball players, but a majority of them are not at the Big 10/Big East and to an extint Missouri Valley level. Having a school like UNO where they are low level D1 gives those players a chance to stay close to home and play at the D1 level. Just look at the guys that were previous mentioned Bradley and Carter. To build on that. Just imagine if Metro Community College in North Omaha would have a basketball team. They could be very good. bobcat402 1 Quote
uneblinstu Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I was more referring to the academic side of things, though. There are a bunch of players in Omaha over the next couple of years that have the talent, but not the grades. Probably three of four kids at Central alone. UNO's the easiest of the three schools to get into. Quote
nuled2dance Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Guys uno was way more focused on this game than unl was last Sunday. A dead arena had the team sleeping. The long three point prayers did not fall against UNO at the ralston arena Quote
