We either get guys or we don't.

If there is something not on the up and up and it's some sort of trainer/aau thing/whatever, hopefully we can avoid it in the future if possible and land the guys that want to go here because it's a place to be and the right fit for them.  I'd suspect those types of recruits would be the ones you read about in the OWH practicing at 6am in the future FWIW.

I just think it is annoying and a total cop out that anytime we are going up against an SEC school everyone throws out the they are paying them excuse. Man up and win a recruiting battle. If we lose, on to the next one.

The cheating allegations with no evidence is just a bunch of sour grapes and makes our fan base look like a group of teenage girls.

Ok. But I know that they do.
Then spill the beans or keep it to yourself. This board does a great job of not having a bunch of faux insiders who make cryptic messages without providing anything of substance. That tends to cause problems on a lot of other boards.

You say you know but don't provide any proof. Do you see how contradictory that looks?

"I know Nebraska pays players. That's all I'm going to say though."

It adds no value to the board if that is all you are going to say.

Elbert's AAU coach's name is Lo. He was handed a bag of cash from LSU.

Heh.

You go to Nebraska if you want to be a big fish in a little pond

You’ll be literally the only thing in town re: basketball, everyone associated with the program will fawn over you and make you “feel the love”. You’ll also never be challenged enough to reach your full potential, they have no history of development, and your best-case outcome is putting up 20-10s on a lousy team before getting some NBA buzz because of your height and going late first round.

Georgetown will show him love as well, and with the possible exception of Duke and North Carolina, there’s no other program out there that can even compare themselves with us in terms of the “family atmosphere”. The difference is that he’ll be challenged, he’ll have to work harder than he’s ever worked in his whole life, and his best-case scenario is turning into a goddmaned beast. He’s tall, with weight-room training he’ll be a defensive presence. But a 7-footer who can read the flow of the game and has a deft passing touch opens up the offense in the modern NBA — slasher, two/three spot shooters and a rebounder can win you an NBA title (just look at Miami).

If your rebounder can keep the lane clear by making a big man guard him 10 feet out (either because he can hit a foul-line j or because he can re-route drive-and-dish passes to open shooters for corner 3s) you will be a juggernaut. Those guys have NBA careers and make the big bucks, and Georgetown is the best place for Elbert to start on that path. He knows it, we know it, hell I bet his AAU coach knows it too. Adults in charge — enough dissembling, just do the right thing for him and have him sign on the line that is dotted.

This. If we don't get a guy as a result what someone else does, who cares why?

Hmm, times have changed a bit...never heard the Big Ten called a little pond though

I'm probably sounding like more of a jerk than I intend to in this conversation, but the "I know something you don't know" routine on message boards really grinds my gears.

I'm going to end the discussion at this point from my end because I don't want to derail the thread any further. Thanks for sharing some of what you heard, CRAZYforNUhoops.

I go by if they deliver the goods or if they just blow smoke a lot.  There's a difference between the guys who say "I know something and you don't" versus the guys who just say what they know and let people just accept or reject it as they wish.  I think Crazy has taken the second approach.  We'll see if the things he says pan out.  So far, I think he's been pretty reliable.  Just my 2 cents.

I second this

Well, CRAZY is not blowing smoke. He mentioned FSU this morning because he already knew that was Nebraska's opponent for the big 10 ACC challenge. Well before it was released. That was insider information

PROVE how you know this to true for a fact.  Were you present?  Anything else is 2nd, 3rd, or moreth handed and completely unreliable.  If you were present, where's the pics?

That's exactly the response you'd hear from an SEC bag man. "Oh yeah, where's your proof?" These guys have this down to a science. It's a practice that's been refined over generations, and they're not in the business of getting caught. The default assumption whenever an SEC program known to have a shady booster culture is in the mix for a player should be that some type of "incentive" will be offered to the player's inner circle. Whether or not that would make the difference in this particular case is unknown. I honestly have no idea of what would be offered, but I'd be surprised if something isn't offered.

I know people are tired of this topic coming up whenever a team like LSU or Auburn is involved, but it comes up because people who follow college football and college basketball understand how prevalent this practice truly is and get frustrated by the knowledge that we're likely up against these tactics for a key recruit once again. I'm hoping for the best, but I'll be surprised if this one turns out any differently from the Atewe and Robinson affairs.

Arkansas is a good basketball school and fanbase, they have just struggled recently.

You can add LSU and Ole Miss as schools that have struggled recently but have some decent runs in the past.

Pretty much most every school has has some decent runs in the past. That dont mean they got a fanbase that cares enough to pay money to recruits, especialy if that means there is less money for football recruits.

We really seem to still have a problem closing out recruits.  Hopefully continued success will make that go away.

I mean shoot...hasn't Harriman been recruiting Deng for like 6 years or something?

It's hard to recruit here. Anyone who thinks it isn't is fooling themselves.
