Didn't we try this international route already with Doc and it failed miserable!!!  This kid only averaged like 7 points a game.  I'd rather pass and look for better players in 2014 & 2015 classes.

And it's not like he averaged 7 points a game in highschool...  That was with the Finnish pro team. He averaged 7.2 points, 52.7 percent shooting, 2.9 rebounds.  He averaged 23 minutes in 24 games.

Herbert has offers from Kansas State, Utah, Miami (FL) and Providence, and recently visited Providence. Michigan, Boston College and Arizona are also showing interest.

UCLA is also showing heavy interest

Losing Sai and Atewe may be a blessing in disguise if we get this kid. We could really use another 6'10 player.

I agree.  In a perfect world, I would have loved to get both... I think Tummala would have made a bigger immediate impact, but I think Herbert has the potential to do more for Nebraska by the time he graduates, if he decides to come to Nebraska.  6'10" with pretty good skills for his size.  That's not easy to find.  And with schools like Michigan, UCLA, Arizona, Miami, Kansas St, Providence, Boston College showing interest, he definitely has some skills,  This could be one of those players that someone was talking about that Nebraska needs steal away from the big boy programs.  Beating out this list of schools for a recruit would be a huge step for Tim Miles and this program.

Personally, I'd like to see what Miles would have been able to do with Standhardinger.

Speaking if Standhardinger, this kid kind of reminds me a bit of Christian.  I think he has a better 3-ball, but the way he drives to the hole and attempts to shoot is Standhardinger like.  I do not question Mikael's offensive skill set, but he looks a bit slow.  My concern is whether he has the lateral quickness to guard out on the perimeter.

OK, bringing up Standhardinger brings up another topic.  I want people to commit right now:  Should Tim Miles NOT recruit this kid because he should know that he's not a fit?  Just like all the people who said Doc shouldn't have recruited a talented Euro 4 because Doc should have known Dinger wouldn't be a fit?

I don't want people bitching 2-3 years from now and saying we should have known not to recruit him.  Say it now.  Should we be recruiting this kid or not?

I say yes.

At 6' 10", how much guarding on the perimeter will he be doing?

I say take him.  Also, say take the father as a coach as someone suggested earlier, if he has meaningful contacts and clout.  Not opposed to over-the-pond players.

I feel we should take him. He has some nice tools to work with. If he can continue to improve his quickness and strength, there seems to be a lot to work with there. The interest for this guy, assuming the reported offers are legit, is really heating up. The Miami offer in particular, assuming it's commitable, means a lot, because they have the opportunity to be very selective right now, and if they like him enough to offer, that means a lot to me.

That's not really a fair question Norm.  Doc seemed to just recruit kids and hope they all fit together in a system whereas Miles seems to be looking for kids that fits for the system he wants to run.  Dinger had the talent but Doc didn't let him utilize it the way he wanted to.  You could tell Dinger would get frustrated when Doc would pull him for taking 1 bad shot.  Dinger might have been an all conference type player under Miles (not saying he would have been as it's just an example).

I have no idea if this kid will fit into Miles system.  I will let Miles be the judge of that.  I do know that Miles will not just waste a scholarship on a kid he doesn't think will help elevate the program and compete for minutes.  This kid doesn't seem to have a "wow" factor to him which is why people are scheptical.  Of course, most of us didn't think Miles was as "wow" hire either and most of us changed our minds pretty quickly.

So to answer your question, yes, I think we should take a shot at signing this kid based on the coaches evaluation of him.

If the coaches want him, I want him, I trust the coaches.  I worry about potential holes in his game, but I am confident the coaching staff can build upon his skillsets and make him better.

That said, I liked much about Christian as well.  But if the reports I heard were correct, Christian was not embraced by his teammates (or vice-versa) and he was somewhat of a selfish player.  At this point, can any of us predict the success or failure of any of our recruits???  It is much easier to do out of the rear-view mirror than it is during the recruiting process.

Cut Christian some slack.  He only had so much embracing to go around.....

Like clockwork, this guy!!!  :D

In all honesty the kid reminds me of Rob Loe whom Harriman recruited out of NZ to SLU.  He's a 6'11'' forward similar in body type that plays the perimeter on offense and is a face up shooter.

sounds like we have something bigger in the works.  Either the JUCO kid or another transfer.

I didn't think Herbert was as good as Tumala, So I'm glad we're looking at filling with a true big man (hopefully).

I read on another site that he recently had shoulder surgery and may have to redshirt next year as a result. Skilled player with height who really didn't fit our need. I get the impression we need rebounding and need someone who can play defense, either against a smaller, athletic PF or provide a bigger presense in the middle. Herbert doesn't fit either mold today. In a few years maybe, but not today. Add in the possibility of a redshirt and you have the answer why no offer I'm guessing.
