Fox Sports starting post season tournament to compete with the NIT

Recommended Posts

Interesting, could be the beginning of the end of the N.I.T. Quite a few big-time schools passed on the N.I.T. already this season, and this could eliminate a bunch entirely, I usually watch some of the N.I.T. but I barely figured out that the Finals are *tomorrow night* at Hinkle Fieldhouse, which is odd since it had previously always been at The Mecca, MSG.

I am not joking that I have Indiana St. winning in my bracket in part because I found out they were playing the Final 4 in Indiana.

I'm doing well!

Niiiiice. I used to pay attention to it pretty closely, but I'm glad I at least figured out the Champ. Game is tomorrow ahead of Keisei Tominaga splashin' threes on ESPN.

From their perspective, all the other channels are broadcasting college basketball and they're not.

The real interesting thing here is the timing because they're looking at the week between the Elite 8 and the Final 4.

Regionals (Sweet 16/Elite 😎  -  March 27-30

CBC -  Monday, March 31 to Sunday, April 6
Final 4/Championship - April 5th, April 7th

Possible this is a no-go because it puts you behind in Portal Combat and maybe because coaching staffs are used to travelling to the Final 4 locations for networking.

Quick question...how many of you knew the NIT thing as still going on this season?

And how many of you knew that it was Ohio State and Utah in the finals?

[Before everyone gets up in arms, I'm just proving a point. ]

Seton Hall and Indiana State. I figured it out earlier today, lol.

I saw an interesting idea today for the NIT.  Someone mentioned the NIT winner getting an auto-bid to the following years tournament.

Negatives I saw were people saying it's completely different teams from year to year... especially with NIL.  But this could be one thing that makes a team stick together.  If they KNOW they have a spot in the NCAA tournament the following year.

I watch a lot of it and love betting on NIT games. For some reason I do better on them than the NCAA.

I'd imagine that gives an advantage to that team in terms of transfers into the program for that one year.

The idea that I like is you forfeit a chance at the postseason the following year if you turn down the NIT bid.   That’ll keep the fringe teams like St Johns in.

This is an interesting one as well and I wouldn’t mind this either.  NIT would have been bonkers this year if some teams hadn’t turned it down.

Hard to say as last year it seemed like there were higher seeded teams that lost last year because they didn't really care to be there.
